    Bogota safety

While the Northern parts of Bogota are safer, it's by no means a walk in the park. I've had many lady friends and student friends robbed at knife point or with a gun. Most occur near the bus stops or around the colleges and they usually work in teams so be aware of who's looking at you. Student backpacks are full of phones and laptops and they know it. In fact, many of them have been robbed multiple times. I cruised SF with Woodman a few years ago and his advice is spot on. However I felt the later it got the more vulnerable I felt. My advice would be to be out of there by 8 or 9 pm. Also, remember its always advisable to call your own taxi then to jump into any street cab. I have been traveling to Colombia 5 or 6 times a year for about 6 or 7 years now and have never encountered a problem but I still will never let my guard down even in the barrios of Chico Norte or Chico Navarra, where I usually stay.

    Why?

Why do these kinds of posts bother me?

    This.

By no stretch of the imagination is Bogotá, and especially SF, even close to safe, and it does a tremendous disservice to other to imply otherwise.

You probably won't get kidnapped by the FARC these days, but you do stand a significant risk of a paseo millonario, theft, and mugging at knifepoint and should take appropriate precautions.

    Weather, etc.

I don't think you will have any trouble with the heat.

Yes to the question about chicas standing in front of motels in Santa Fe and not in the North.

January and February would be their Summer.

Another thing, when does the weather cheer up a bit, I don't want to be burnt to a crisp but will think twice about coming if it's overcast any rainy every day in Bogota and Medellin. I get enough of that living on Belgium! Is the weather better in Jan or Feb than it is now? And the elevation, thin air, has that affected anybody's mongering abilities, as it is at 2640 metres, and I am getting on a bit!

Don't worry, it was just a comment for my own life. Crime statitics will not prevent me from living my life and going anywhere in Colombia. But I understand perfectly that for other people safety is more important, so I recommend them other areas than Santa Fe. Anyone his own life. Most important is that you enjoy your stay, return home safely with good memories from Colombia.

Figuring roughly 90,000 additional people per day (visitors and employees), it gives you about a 1 in 30,000 chance of being victim of a crime.

Of course, that's a low estimate because there are a lot of businesses in Chapinero and a lot of visitors. That is probably too high of a risk for you, but for most people it's acceptable.

For comparison, let's do the Chapinero per capita crime rate, 3000/150,000 = 2000/100,000. Now let's compare to the province of Quebec, Canada, 5909/100,000 (2006 statistics). So, the incredibly dangerous neighborhood of Chapinero is 3 times safer than the 2nd safest province in Canada, considered by most to be one of the safest countries in the world..

I have also read in reviews that people often complaining about looks too! Though I see plenty of beautiful pictures in Bogota escorts sites! (I attached a few in my previous post) so why not calling them instead? This makes me wonder and suspect that definitely most and likely all these beautiful pictures are fake? Or pictures or very old pictures? And to me looks is the only factor as I don't take services (I am seeking companionship only). Clearly we should all be terrified.

Wherever you travel there are risks and there are ways to reduce the risks. If you're too worried about the risks, then stay home. The last thing Bogota, or any other city needs is a paranoid tourist who is terrified to leave his hotel room (not realizing that any escort who comes into your room may rob you. Also not realizing that thieves and scam artists hang out at the airport, because they know the incoming tourists are carrying lots of cash).

You want to stay in a safe, secure apartment, that will not check the ID of any of the roughly 25 strangers you plan to invite to your room and you're worried about safety?

You do whatever you think will work for you. You're obviously the expert. However, until you actually go to Bogota, walk the streets and visit the different neighborhoods, don't try to tell the people who combined have spent thousands of hours there, how safe it is.

    Thanks for the advice!

JjBee62 thanks for all your great advice! Had a look around there on google maps, think was taken maybe early morning as the streets are quite empty apart from some chicas here and there. Like I said I still need to research a lot, but I see many of the types I like, curvy and natural looking. On the escort websites for Bogota I see endless skinny Barbie types who all look the same to me, not my types at all. Are there any clubs with more BBW types, tits and ass? That is my type! More likely maybe in a club in Santa Fe than in Zona Norte maybe? From my experience the more expensive the place, the skinnier the chicas get! I note the discussions between you guys about the area being dangerous or not during the day, but I don't see the fun in a mongering vacation of just calling escorts to come to your apartment or hotel, you experience nothing that way (except for the sex of course).

Just so I understand correctly, for Chapinero and Zona Norte you are referring to clubs, right? Not chicks standing in front of short term hotels? Is that action reserved to the Santa Fe area? From what I can tell the RLD in Bogota is downtown, is that right? What I was wondering is, are these areas safe to walk around during the day for a gringo, albeit a dark haired and spanish speaking one such as me. I don't see any gringo's on the streets on those videos. What about the places the girls are hanging out in front of, are they clean and safe for some daytime action? I still have to do most of my research, and I am sure there are loads of clubs which are safer / better etc, but just looking at these videos I have already seen a few women who are just my type, dark hair, pretty, busty and curvy, skinny barbie girls are not my type at all! Any advice would be appreciated.
    Hi,

I live 5 minutes walk from Santa Fe- I'm a 54 yr old gringo. I speak Spanish OK. But they know I'm a gringo after I talk for a minute.

I have a tough appearance which probably helps me.

I went out last night met up with one of my Streety Sweeties BBJ- Hot quick session with Kassandra Hot 18 yr old paisa $40 mil!

Anyhow. Just be careful-- I go all the time-- don't pull your phone out and lose your attention to what is around you.

Have an attitude where you will not be intimidated-- Don't get sucked into perps trying to talk to you-- Don't be Afraid to ignore people. But Just be aware.

I have been here 6+ yrs had a phone taken out of my pocket once.

I want to take this opportunity to Help my Driver / friend Jairo get work-- he transports girls to all the Expensive casas up north and can hook you up-- But he doesn't speak a lick of English-.

I have known him for 6 yrs -- he always drive me too the airport when I make my USA trips.

He charges 70 mil an hour for driving and a small fee for intros-- PM me for his number-.

Regarding Colombia, druing the last 2 years, I have visited any corner of Colombia, the most remote areas, the most dangerous ares of the main cities, luckely, never ever happened to me or the people I love and live with, as I learned to protect my back. What hasn't been said is the warnings about security are often outdated or exaggerated. This is especially true with red light districts.

Whenever you read reviews, first pay attention to the date of the review. For Bogota, most of the "too dangerous" reviews are 10 years old. Like any big city, there are risks to be aware of, but I will take Santa Fe over the worst areas of Chicago, a city 1/4 of the size of Bogota. That doesn't mean I would drink 10 shots of tequila and go stumbling around at 3 am, but I have no issues with walking through and checking things out.

The other thing to look for in reviews is attitude. Is the reviewer angry about something else and trashing everything?

Moralizing is another problem. Someone accidentally walks through Santa Fe and starts seeing the obvious prostitutes in every direction, maybe spots an exposed nipple, and hops online to preach. Of course, just seeing a bunch of women in scanty (especially by Bogota daytime standards) clothing, doesn't seem bad enough, so the street gets populated with heroin addicts, shooting up and knife wielding gangsters [CodeWord125] and pillaging. Somehow the reviewer manages to escape with his life without contracting a horrible disease and feels the need to warn the world.

If you're aware and alert, there is no reason to avoid Santa Fe during the daytime, or in the evening if you stick to the main streets, use taxis and use some common sense.

It is not hard to conclude that sitting in a classy protected hotel with security guards around and calling in escorts is safer than walking around red light district looking for street sex workers in a generally known as unsafe country as per travel advisories provided.

    Hi Scot,

Just curious as they appear to be so many beauties working as escorts in Bogota then why calling the one whose tits was like your dogs? Why you didn't call one of those ones in solitasparati or this one (http://www.prepagosbogota69.com/daniela.html) or this one (http://escortsbogota.co/portfolio/leidy/) or this one (http://lacelestina.co/escorts-prepag...os-bogota-gina)? Are they also all fake or highly photo shopped? I don't know I have no experience with escorts in Bogota or elsewhere so as why I am curious to know.
