What do you mean for YMMV?
I supposed that prices were not so high. On Google maps the average price is 50 K for 1 hour. Are these maps totally not right?

Sad to lose a fellow New Yorker. Guess my experience pales on what poor John went through. Just finished reading all the posts on the Medellin thread. It could happen in Bogota as well. Can actually happen anywhere, but Colombia and taxis and motorbikes and street thugs just don't seem to be a good mix.

Posts: 316Alright so you're not RTFF clearly, but I'll give you some quick answers starting bottom up.
1. Stay in Zona Rosa if it's your first visit. Don't stay in Santa Fe or near Santa Fe. Chapinero is fine. Don't walk around late at night and by yourself. Santa Fe is the red light district, it's run-down, it's shady, but it's not a huge area. Maybe 2-3 blocks at most. You can walk around in 5-7 minutes if you walk at a nice pace and don't stop anywhere. Use caution at night, and look like you know where you are going. I mention my advice in previous posts, and the first few pages are filled with guidance / advice.
2. Performance is always YMMV. If a girl cares about the money, which they all do, she'll do what you agree with her to do (unless she wants to scam you). If you agree to BBBJ if she offers that, then chances are you'll pay for it and you'll get it. Some will do at no cost, but YMMV. Some will charge for kissing. Others will not. Talk about it before hand, and you'll hopefully get what you pay for. If you're smelly and have bad hygiene, don't expect much. Especially BBBJ even if you offer to pay for it.
3. The price is going to vary. Santa Fe for one hour is going to be around 100 k with other fees such as for the short time hotel etc. It can add up to 120 - 150 k. It's not much money, but depends on how much you want to pay. Try out a 20 min session and then see if you want more time in the future. Something like that. You can go to a place like Chicas Milenio / Chicas 2000 which has a pretty good selection of chicas and the price for an hour will be about 60 k - 80 k. YMMV with upselling. But that should get you a CBJ and CFS at least, and the rest you'll have to figure out.
Best of luck. And seriously, RTFF.

Posts: 81American killed in Medellin after resisting robbery
Sad news, 65 year old New Yorker was shot and killed after being stopped and resisting a robbery attempt. Ocurred a couple of days ago just one block away from the mansion.
After all recent discussions of the dangers in Santa Fe, heed the warnings, follow the advices and be careful out there. More information and many good tips for safety in the Medellin reports thread.

Posts: 165May I ask you how much is the price for 1 hour with a girl in Santa Fe and how much is the price in Chapinero? I have seen within maps that there are a lot of brothels in Chapinero.
Performance are same in these two areas? Is possible to have the BBJ without condom?
Could be a good option to have the hotel in Chapinero moving with the taxi to Santa Fe?

If you walk back and forth the same street, it'll look like you're searching for your favorite chica or dealer; but if you're new to the scene, it could just look like you're lost.
Knowing how to quickly get back to the Transmilenio is a good idea. It's definitely true the bad guys work in bands, although they usually do so in crowded areas where Colombians do their street shopping. They will definitely use a distraction tactic, many times with a pretty chica trying to talk to you or ask you something. In Santa Fe, the general rule is that the chicas stand or sit around and you do the approach and take the initiative. So if a chica approaches you be careful, something might not be right.

Hi guys,
Somebody could explain me where are located and how are named brothels (No lap dance, gentleman clubs or silly places like that!) of Bogotá where you can pay 10-30 euro per 1 hour? Is it Santa Fe? Do you know if there are some specialized to offer black girls?
Again, somebody could gently recommend me an hotel close to brothels for 30-60 euro per night?
Thank you very much.

Posts: 316Overall, good advice. I personally walk around Santa Fe wearing a non-branded jacket, basic jeans, and casual / tennis shoes with my hands in my pockets, and I blend in fine. During the day and early evening you'll see plenty of people walking around even in suits. And a person really needs to walk with some authority and look like they know where they are going. I had missed a turn on my very first to Santa Fe a few months back and walked into the Tranny area, did so for a couple blocks before I walked into a supermarket and looked at google maps on my phone (do this discretely and in a store / restaurant always for less visibility). Went down a street and over in the opposite direction to get back on track as I figured going the immediate opposite direction would make me walk by people I had walked by before, and possibly increase the risk for me and I wanted to give the impression that I knew where I was going. That's just how I think anyways. I also don't like to get stopped on the streets by anyone, whether they are trying to sell something, ask for something, even if it's just some money for whatever purpose. I keep walking at my normal pace, I'm sure that some pickpocketers work in teams and it's possible that they will use someone on the street to create a small distraction to stop a person. This is the way I look at these things in Colombia however, and others may view it differently and might be OK with giving a mil peso or two mils to diffuse a situation, and it really is a small amount. I prefer to get off the transmilenio stop and walk around the 2-3 blocks in Santa Fe, and I don't have any issues. I think knowing where the transmilenio stop is, is probably going to be your best bet if you think you're being followed or harassed by someone. The riders don't want to see disruptions and annoyances, and neither do the "police" that patrol the stops. At least in my experience.

Posts: 262Santa Fe and Street Game
We should thank ClubTed for his honesty in what could be perceived as an embarrassing incident. It actually sounds very funny in print, but I bet it was kind of scary when it actually happened.
I think you did alright, you shouldn't totally cross off Santa Fe. You probably bit more than you can chew because the street scene in Santa Fe is definitely more intense than similar street areas in Medellin, and solid Spanish is pretty much a necessity (in my opinion) to play the street game safely and the right way.
So I'd say just avoid the street scene for now and check out the famous night spots in the early evening (Paisas, Piscina, Castillo). These venues can get pretty pricey compared to the daytime street scene, but basically you cab it there and back to your place (or a nearby love motel if you don't want to do the girl in-house) so there's no real security issue, you're not walking around alone at night.
I'm surprised you didn't check out La Forty-Nine; it's a famous spot on Calle 49 (get it?) near where you where staying in Chapinero. Would have been a quick, cheap, and easy cab ride there and back. The club itself is not cheap, especially if you're coming in with the first-time gringo vibe, but I still think it's worth a visit. It's a fun, safe place to go and I've even had a delicious meal (one of those Colombian stews) there at 3 in the morning.
Going back to your incident, I have to point out the Danny supermercado is a known corner where some trannies hang. It's true their main "drag" (pun intended) is a block down starting at the corner of Carrera 16 and Calle 20 going down to Calle 19 but they also hang at the corner of Calle 21 where the Danny mini-mart is located. I've even seen some YouTube videos showing this.
Your mistake was hanging out too long in this area. You might give off a vibe of a type of gringo who's interested in trannies but is not ready yet to pull the trigger so to speak.
Also, this is more of an advanced psychology thing, so I don't blame you if you didn't know this, but never lock eyes with anyone you think might be a bit cracked in the head or is whacked out on drugs. They will latch onto you no matter what you say or do! I learned this the hard way myself with a crazy dude in the New York city subway; my incident was not as bad as yours, but I was kicking myself later at my error.
It's okay (important even) to establish brief eye contact with young guys walking your way (alone or in pairs) in Santa Fe and similar street areas. Just look at them briefly, put your hands in your jean or jacket pockets, and keep walking at the same pace nonchalantly. That lets them know you're not an easy mark or target.
As for the money thing, it's a tough call. If you plan to visit a street scene regularly, you don't want to be known as the gringo who gives free tips just because a bum or other character comes up to you and asks for a gift. But with today's exchange rates, it's not really so bad is it? It's important to carry a bunch of 1 and 2 thousand peso bills, not just as tips for taxistas, but for these kinds of situations. Even just tossing that tranny crackhead a coin or two might have been enough to shake him out of his obsession with you.
I'll admit that if a guy asks me for some change, and I'm in a situation where I feel a bit "cornered," I'll handle it like this: shrug my shoulders while digging into my pocket with the small bills, carefully taking out ONE bill while not showing any other, and just give it to the guy without looking at him. I don't say a word or establish eye contact. Then I try to leave the area as quickly as possible (in case it's a mark type of situation for a robbery).
