Prices here are absolutely dirt cheap. I just went shopping at a major grocery store here, called Ley (how appropriate) and this is what is was able to buy for US$11 : 2 cans of coke, 3 packs of marlboro, 75 meters of johnson and johnson dental floss, a large package of oreos, a meter tape (a professional measuring tape, remember I plan on buying a place and it is somewhat important to know how big a place is), a liter of premium orange juice and 2 cans of Heineken.

This is one of those famous 3 day weekends so while the town is quiet I still have been able to have fun.

Sunday night report

Went and got a fox of a street walker to gain entrance to the swing club which is Spartacus the rest of the time except Sunday nights. What a mistake that was. Entrance was 50,000 pesos, about US$19 and of course this fox of a streetwalker started talking about getting paid before the end of the night and just generally acted badly. After cautioning her I would pay her afterwards and if she kept it up we would leave, we left. I took her to my hotel for a perfectly satisfactory session including photos afterwards. Expect photos soon as I have yet to enter the digital camera age. I do not recommend going to this swing club. There were 7 other couples there, all middle aged and the facility was hot and humid inside without beds. At 10 oclock in the evening everyone was just sitting around with their spouse/date and not interacting with others.

The scene around Mysti-K is really young and there is another club around the corner called the Podium and that is the club that was hopping tonight. If you happen to be a middle aged guy like myself however, forget trying to connect with any of these younger non-pros, it just doesn't work.

Cali is generally a pretty laid back place. I went to Tienda Vieja earlier in the evening but was refused admission because I was wearing shorts. No big as discos are really not my thing. Afterwards, I took a long long walk around the neighborhood and it seemed perfectly safe to me.

As far as grabbing a cab is concerned, only use a radio taxi. You can identify them by the radio antenna on the trunk. There are 3 different companies with these phone numbers : 3333333 ; 4444444; and 5555555. Other taxis may or may not give you the run around as happened to me this evening - no big, I told the driver to stop, paid him the US$1 fare and got out and got in one of the radio taxis. A cheap bad experience easily solved.

There is a casino at Unicentro in which 21 is played with the dealer receiving 2 cards before the players act. I prefer this over blackjack here where the dealer receives his second card after all the players have acted. A blackjack is paid immediately even if the dealer also has a blackjack which is a real advantage. There are no 10's in the deck although there are face cards.

There is a beer here called Poker. Guess what brand I drink. Quite fitting I think.

Poobah, in my experience, the casas are hit and miss. I have been to casas where I politely excused myself as there were no attractive women there and other times I have been to casas (especially the Avenida 2N casas) where there are 2 or 3 attractive women working.

In truth however you need not even go to a casa. The Calenas are very happy to meet and speak with men and especially a gringo. Don´t expect instant service though from a non-pro like you might elsewhere.

My opinions of course are based on only a few days of experience. I am just starting to get the hang of this place. Give me more time here and perhaps I will modify my ideas on this. All in all though Cali seems to be a great town and like I said in another post, here it is safe to hail a cab on the street.

If any Cali locals are around and want to show me around a little, the drink tabs are on me. Just private message me here on this board.

Hey Studplayer. I have heard varying reports about the Casas. One guy said he'd been to 40 casas and could only find 2 women he found attractive. He said that he'd been to 29 countries and Cali was worst city he'd ever been in for P4P. That sounds rather unbelievable considering the reports to the contrary.

Anyways.... I have a personal interest in this as I'm going there in about 13 days!

El Colorado, obviously you did not understand that the parts about bombings and a running gun battle were complete jokes. Believe what you want in the fear-mongering government-controlled international media but this place seems no more dangerous and no safer than any city anywhere in the world. At times, if you did not know better, you would think you were in Cannes or Beverly Hills. At other times, you could be in any inner-city burnt-out slum anywhere in the world. Just use some sense and you will be fine.

Avenida 2N Scene - good, definitely some talent available but you need to shop around. Not a bad neighborhood but on the fringe of the good neighborhood so be careful there. The Doctor of Love place is undergoing remodeling but there are other places in this neighborhood.

A comparison of Unicentro and Chipechapa - Chipe has tons of security guards while Uni considerably less. Chipe is close to the Hotel Intercontinental, Uni is far. Women are more abundant at Chipe. There is a casino at Uni. So you can see for me it is a tough choice! (El Colorado, this is another joke in case you miss it.)

This is one of those 3 day weekends so the town is a little empty of nenas (I hope this is the case) but it is still real easy to have fun.

StudPlayer - Where are you staying? Can you describe the accomodations and tell us what you are paying? What side of Cali had the explosions and gun battle? El Pais said nothing about it today.

For you Colombian vets out there: I have mongered in Costa Rica as it has a great variety of latin women (my favorite). I love Colombians and have always thought of hitting Colombia as a destination to monger.

I would love some information as where to stay in Cali and where to monger. I am young so I would be open to go after the non-pros and the locals. My spanish is improving so I know that is a plus.

My biggest detterent is the safety issue. I have heard both sides of the argument.

Is there a person who can give me good guidelines on how to monger in Cali. I will definitely be a newbie and would love instructions on where to stay, where to go and even whether I should just stick to Costa Rica as Colombians are available there (albeit for a much higher price) Also is there a guide or service that is in Cali who can guide me for a fee. I would love some price info as well as the cost of hotels, taxis, girls, clubs.- thank you in Advance.

Yesterday went to a casa on Avenida 9B. 4 women, none better than a 5 (scale of 10 not 100 you perverts), but all sympatica, so I passed. This place is not recommended.

Last night hit Avenida Sexta. Went for an early nut with a 19 year old streetwalker - and for a streetwalker, what a beauty. The scene around Mysti-K and the Forum Club is hopping. They are both located near Avenida Sexta and Calle 25. I am not into dark nightclubs so the numerous outdoor cafes on Avenida Sexta were just perfect for me. Great scene if you like friendly pretty young non-professional women. If you don´t, then you should stay away. In fact, considering how effin dangerous it is here, it is probably better that you stay away even if you like friendly pretty young women.

Things you can do in Cali safely:
1) Bone as many beautiful young women as is manly possible.
2) Dine in as many gourmet restaurants as is manly possible.
3) Hail a taxi on the street.

1) Get shit-faced drunk and fall asleep on the street.

Yesterday before leaving Medellin for Cali (due to the total lack of decent hotel rooms due to a horse show) again I met a couple of the sweetest young cuties in the food court at Oviedo.

Did you use a guide like Ramon, Carlos or Andreas?

my friends had a guy named raul - but i'm more of an anti-guide type. i love having to speak spanish, and shy away from english speaking girls... true the guides can take you places you might not know about, but wsg has so much detail on 80-90% of all the places you'll need to hit (unless you're there for months).

If so, what did you pay them per day?

it was more of an hourly thing i believe... or arranged for a day... maybe one of them can follow up, i think they read here.

Can you make a recommendation?

Is the pool at Hostel San Fernando or at the club. How far is the club from the Hostel?

the pool is at the club. it is 5-6 blks, so walking distance if you want a little walk, taxi (like us$1) if you just showered and it's sweltering out. there is a nice drug store, juice/smoothy place, supermarket, and 3-4 atms between the places, so i walked often.

Was the hostel chica friendly for girls other than agency girls? What were you charged per day for viewing and setting up dates from the hostel's listing of women?

it's more like an apartment in that regard, so you can do what you like - have 3 girls over at once i guess - they don't care (unless you create a disturbance). i don't know if they have any listing, or can help you by providing a meeting... i never asked for that (given it's so easy to meet girls in casas, malls, street, bars, discos).

Are there outdoor places to hang out during the day at the hostel?

not really... only a very small couryard suitable for a coffee/bfst... waiting for a taxi... just talking...

Is the south end of Cali as safe as the north end?

both have equally safe and dangerous areas - you really can't categorize it like that. the areas like santa monica, av sexta, chipechape are safe, in the south, and probably better than staying south. but hostal s.f. is not in the south - more of the central. unicentro mall is in the south, and it's a distance (maybe 6000 pesos taxi) away.

Did you stay anywhere else in Cali?

i didn't... i've only visited once. i have friends who have stayed at rayda apts, intercontinental, a friend has a place in santa monica (it's kind of remote though).

It is nearly always best to use an ATM in foreign countries (economically speaking) vs. exchanging US/Euro currency, using a CC, or using travelers checks.

Regarding a black market rate of 2.9 (if I read you correctly) - the FX is currently 2,860 more or less - about the same as the 2.9 so why bother with any extra risk?
