Posts: 51Apartahotel del Rio. It's great value
I agree I stayed there 3 times. Always had a good stay there. I remeber I never got charged to have guests either. The front desk noticed the different girls I had over they never asked me for a chica fee. Howwever I was told there is a guest fee if the girl sleeps over. Never was held to that though. The doorman was great also had some great recomendations for casas. Another good thing about the hotel is that you have casas walking distance from there. Pharros and the other casa which is right next to it is a block down. Casa De Amor and another casa by the Torres de cali is walking distance also. On Friday they have a nice Dance club at Torres de Cali single girls easy to pick up while I was there.

Posts: 500Passed through here a couple of times in recent weeks:
Arrival:
The first time I had a late night arrival and just went for a taxi at 39, 000. Slightly more than what is reported here but not too far off.
Another time I just went for the minibus that waits outside the domestic arrivals. It cost 6000 to get to the bus terminal in town. From there to my hotel (Apartahotel del Rio) cost the minimum taxi fare (3, xxx. I forget how much exactly).
Hotel:
Apartahotel del Rio. It's great value. Nice, spacious rooms for 99, 000 (suite with sitting room). Close to several casas and walking distance to Avenida 6 for nightlife. Includes a breakfast of omelette and bread. There's a small pool on the rooftop, good enough to get some rays and get a hot girl into a bikini. They also claim to have a gym but most of the equipment is broken down and I went elsewhere. There's a riverside park nearby that's good for running.
Had no GF issues. They didn't even ask for a cedula. The girls I bring back don't look slutty so maybe that's why they let them by.
A large police headquarters is nearby across the river. I guess that's no guarantee about safety but if I were a crook I could think of better places to make trouble.
Free wifi and free use of computer teminals in be business center (interesting that cheaper hotels are more generous about this sort of thing than 5 star places). The main downside is no safe box in the room. Also I had some occasional maintenance problems (toilet flushing issues and power going out in one room)
Where I met girls:
All online, from Cybercupido and Latinamericancupid. I met a total of six. Three ended up going all the way. Others were either too conservative or were fatter/uglier than their profile pics and so didn't get past the first encounter. One of the three who "did" (a negra) was totally about the cash, always asking for money for little things. This I didn't mind so much since it was trivial amounts (50K or so) and she was hot and good in bed. She later admitted that she had a couple of European guys that were sending her money. I was happy to do her and pay token amounts for services rendered. She also turned up in Bogota when I was there and we continued our physical relationship there. The other two (one negra and one trigueña)went the standard route of wining, dining, and eventually bedding. I think they had eventual hopes of more serious relationship, but were also content to have a good time with someone that treated them well. I also had contact with a couple of others that had promise but I didn't have time to get around to. Cali definitely needs another visit.
Casas:
While I wasn't busy with online girls I dabbled in the nearby casas. I went to Ropa de Bebe (2N-24N-63) and picked out Diana, petite and slim. Looked like she might have had a kid but wouldn't admit it. She had the looks but service was sort of indifferent. It was 30something thousand for half an hour and in the 40s for a full hour, quite a bargain compared to Medellin especially.
I also tried Clinica de Amor. There I was with Carolina (the names Diana and Carolina repeated throughout the trip). Prices were about the same as Ropa de Bebe. Carolina said she had a 3-year old kid but it didn't show much on her body. She was blond, about 5 foot 4 and slim. She gave a great blow job (with condom). I finished off inside her quickly on the half hour since I had to rush off to meet one of the "nice" girls.
I also looked into the 2 places that are next to each other at 2N-24N-63. It was late afternoon and the night one (whichever one it is) was just getting started. The other one was well stocked and I would have come back here if I had time.
Nightlife and so on:
Avenida 6 is sort of the center. Lots of discos and places to sit out and have a beer. There are occasional possibilities to pick up someone here. There was a place diagonally across the street from Viejo Baril where the waitresses were offering some action. But they all 4 or 5 of them kept bugging me to buy them drinks so I got sick of it there. The bars along here are a good place to bring a date for music and dancing.
La Luna is another area with a smaller cluster of places. Just past a highway overpass there's another of those Viejo Baril places and a couple of other open air drinking and dancing places. There are a couple of discotecas, one in the same places as the other drinking places, and one on the other side of the overpass. Here there are also pickup possibilities. It's best if you bring a lady friend to be your "wing girl. " As with so many places in the world girls give you more attention if you're with another girl.
Juanchitos, on the edge of town, is where you go if you want to party all night, or until 6 am at least. I never made it here because I would rather get to some bedroom activities before then.
Early in the evening the malls are a good place to start. Most of them have open air, food court looking cocktail bars where students and office workers go for a drink or 3 after work/class. I found that Palmetto Plaza was the best place for this, followed by Chipichape. There are also other malls toward the south, like Unicentro.
Gym:
I went to the Scandinavian Gym near the Intercontinental Hotel. The equipment is a little aged but not too bad. It cost 20, 000 for a visit. Bodytech, where I had a membership and which I used in the other Colombian cities I went to, is too far away to the south. Apparently they're building one at Chipichape Mall.
Security:
I never had a problem. But in the places I visited in Colombia, only here in Cali did I detect some nervousness among the locals when out walking at night. So I wouldn't be too paranoid but just use common sense precautions.

I agree with you amigo that Cali is NOT some big danger zone where one is going to killed, mugged, kidnapped, etc just walking about and following general precautions.
I also agree that it's silly to buy fancy / expensive cell phones for your novia. Not just for the lure of the ladron but also if they lose it, break it, etc.
A simple cell phone is just fine.
Matter of fact, the type of cell phone a chica asks you for is a great sign to what type of chica she is.
Obviously you know Cali, and obviously you run a business there and it would be best not to report any negatives towards Cali, so as to attract, or to not detract any perspective visitors and perspective customers.
I agree with you. Cali is a fantastic place. Great chicas, great music, dance and drink.
Everyone should visit Cali. It's a bit different than Medellin. It used to be the "gringo haven" of Colombia before Medellin was discovered.
In Cali now you'll see less gringos and IMHO the chicas son mas cheveres (are a bit more cool. Cool in the good sense), and it's less expensive than Medellin.
Bottom line on the danger factor is that whatever city in Colombia you visit, you just have to just be aware of your surroundings. Cali is not doing as well economically as Medellin for example so obviously more un-employment and more dudes on the streets trolling.
Have fun in Cali amigos.
Grringgo, I'd love to meet up with you and check out your apartamentos, pronto.
Bom dia! I mean, Buen dia!

Posts: 1437Ahhh, Getting taken by any of these Latina girls these days especially after all the scams be revealed here and hopefully having a high level of street smarts and B.S. detector should really be left to the gringo rookies. Not to many chicas able to pull the wool over my eyes anymore and I doubt Ricker as well so when he tells me that his chica got robbed, I very well believe him for all thats worth. "Where they are going, I already had a coffee and came back already" lol

Congratulations on living in Cali, and congratulations for never having been robbed.
I also love Cali. Have been visiting quite frequently for many years. Great, fun people in general.
To make fun about a chica getting robbed is sad. Whatever you may say and laugh at, it's a common occurrence.
My novia got robbed not too long ago for her shoes. She told me she initially tried to resist, pleading with the big bad ladron (as you jokingly put it) but then when a pistol is pressed to your head, you give up the goods.
Of course it's not the most dangerous city in the world. In Colombia, most likey yes. Be smart, take precautions, you'll be fine, but know that it is a high crime city.
Best wishes

Thank god that in the last two years of living here full time I have never been robbed. Maybey its because I like to hang out in "El Centro"(downtown)LOL
Yeah, Cali sounds like a dangerous place. I better go out and buy myself a big bottle of pepper spray too. LOL

Posts: 1437Well, novia robbed again at gunpoint for her cell phone!
I just get a distraught phone call from my girl, she was robbed at gunpoint in melendez which is actually a pretty nice area. They got her cellphone, thank-god she is ok I told her because people are getting killed for much lesser things lately and the over all consensus seems that Cali is getting worse and more dangerous. My suegra told me that the neighbor got robbed in a more "traditional" style by 3 men getting on the buseta on the way home and robbing all jewelry, cell phones, purses and wallets. My driver oscar in Cali told me that a gringo he picks up as well got robbed in the nicest area of Cali, granada 2 blocks from the hotel. They again got the wallets, cell phones and watches, this seem to be a new problem arising, where the ladrones are starting to hang out in the places where the money is ea granada, el penon. And el penon is where my girl got robbed last time. I for one will be more vigillant in my security there when I go and I'm going to the spy shop here and buying her some strong pepper spray.

Posts: 28I had the opportunity to travel 3 times to Cali over the last 6 months, my two cents are: it's a nice city, it's not the most modern of cities but the caleños are nice easy going people. Safety is a factor, the caleños themselves will tell you that their city is very hot indeed. I have been told that the city is just beginning to have a comeback after many years of economic depression, the war waged by the Cali cartel 15 years ago meant a real blow to the economy of this city. In conclussion, the people are very nice and friendly, but safety is an issue.

Posts: 433Re: Cali how dangerous is it?
I agree that there alot of people without jobs and you have to be careful at night. But I have been to Cali 4 times now and plan to go back in a month or so. I got sick the first time there and needed medical assitance. The hotel staff was very helpful and I was not charged for the paramedics that came to my room. I was obviously grateful to all and I was asked only for one thing from the staff. That was to tell people I know that they are good people (Colombians) and not murderers and drug trafficers as what the media tends to paint them as.
I am not saying you shouldn't be careful. Use common sense when in countries or areas like Cali. It helps in Cali if you can speak Spanish as I am fluent in Spanish I have no trouble getting around and meeting women. I have had 3 girlfriends from Cali and they all have been incredible in bed. Of course they are hoping to have you fall in love with them to take them out of Cali.
