Salsa to the Spanish culture is what reggae is to Jamaica. In more touristy areas such as Medellin, Sosua, and Cartagena you can find other varieties. I remember when I was in Santiago Cuba. That was the Cali. It was the Cali of Cuba. I never experienced a club playing salsa all night. Just watching them all night was exhausting. No I'm in my beginning stages of learning. I first went to Cali because in my younger days I was very much into salsa dancing and the bars on la sexta and Juanchito were once upon a time world famous for that. I think things have changed both in terms of slasa's popularity as well as my interest in it, but it will be fun to go back and enjoy the city and the girls.

I may drop a question or two as I'm planning accommodations, logistics etc. Not really interested in a guide or anything of that nature. If that type of thing were necessary then Cali would really no longer be of interest to me. I am trying to go back through the archives and read everything, but if anyone has links to threads or resources with up-to-date information on food / hotels / transportation etc. , I certainly appreciate that. Otherwise look forward to chatting with you guys a little bit more as I plan. I'll pay it back with a trip report upon my return.

On the Colombia monger status aspect; Cali is No. 4 in reports. Medellin is way ahead w 52 K reports, followed by Cartegena and Bogota at around 12 K, and finally Cali w just 4 K. This town isn't as exciting as the others, doesn't have quite the tourist spots or just plain bling as the others. Its an acquired taste; you have to dig for, whether its chica spots or even good restaurants but the action is there; just not in your face like the other cities.

Guys come here after they have tried other places. And sometimes just stay a day or 2. Run around like crazy for a few days and leave.

My opinion is that Cali will always be No. 4; that's it. But it will always have cheaper monger prices than the other cities.

Cali is a place for budget mongers and expats who have "gone native". There's no in your face Parque Llreas or Clock tower or anyplace where working girls that are too pretty to be street meat hang out place. If you're spanish is good in theory you can meet chicks at the mall or whereever but if a chick gives you her number it's for a DATE not Prostitution she might expect "taxi money" but she's also expecting to actually be taken out.

To someone wanting to check out Cali the best thing to do is to spend as much time as possible swiping on Tinder Again no matter how many chicks you line up it wil be too few. Feel free to quadruple book dates because if yiu ask for four to meet maybe one will show up.

Share as many as you feel comfortable with. WOW! I go to Tijuana for 5 days and all hell breaks loose on the Cali site. But I'm generally in the Triple Darkness camp of not needing a guide. By the way Triple I will be in Cali next month hope to meet up w you and have a drink at one of the hot spots that have been talked about. I started coming to Cali about 12 years ago. Used to come here quite often. Not so much lately. Had financial problems for a while.

But the areas I go to, I found out about on my own. Didn't need a guide. Either read previous reports or heard about. But I use google maps a lot to map out where places are and gauge how to get there. Don't use cabs all that much, just walk to it. Somebody mentioned Caras Lindas; I used to walk there from El Centro all the time, even though passing thru some sketchy hoods along the way. Thats all part of the fun in Cali.

My suggestion to newbies is to do your homework. All the info is right there on the maps. Just figure out where you are and how to get there.

As far as Jesus goes. Yes he did turn me on to some new spots, but I would have found them eventually on my own. Yes I did experience his anger a few times. I don't need that drama on a vacation. I feel sorry for him on the job scene but I can't help him. It aint me babe.

To the Newbies me and Bay Boy aren't young men but I routinely walk from Grenada to Chipichape Mall to Centro / San Nicholas. In that radius you're covered. To buy anything you need from Food to clothing to souvenirs either high end at Chipichape Mall or budget priced at Centro market. Same thing for Pussy; you can walk to the best casa in Town (Clinica Dr. Amor) to one of the best "strip clubs" (they don't really Strip) in Bar La Veinte to maybe 20 casas and Street Meat in that area. Are there other strip clubs outside of walking distance? Sure but there's no need. I have friends in Grenada but I don't have to go because it's almost if the town was split in half If you're in the south there's no real need to go to the north and vice versa.

The only thing the southside of the city doesn't have that the northern half does have is the south doesn't have street walkers. One thing the south has that the north kinda lacks is happy ending (or more) message parlors. They have some in the north but they tend to be sketchy and not really adverstised. The best MP that acts like a real Asian MP where you can get as good as a massage as you can a blow job is katmandu in the south. But it's not Africa, Haiti, or the DR. As trip explain and showed me; a lot of these chicas come from cities on the western coast that are predominantly Afro Colombian seeking work and a better life. However, overall they still make up a small percentage of the population and a very small percentage of chicas in the casas. Then when he dropped us off I told him what time to come take me to the airport the next day. So if I am paying a guy with a car 25 K to take me all over, how much should be paid to a guy without a car to show me a couple of hooker dens?

The reality is places where tourist go to prices increase.
