I'm in the same boat with a use it or lose it airline ticket (actually have 3 separate credits, but one expires mid-January 2021).

Planning to take off first of January and stay for 2 months more or less, but still looking for a temporary apartment that is lady friendly.

I've always worked virtually and literally got used to spending 80% of my time in Asia (Thailand, Philippines, China, HK, Indo, Malaysia).

Summer is not a particularly bad time weather wise in Cartagena. Just keep in mind that this is the tropics and no matter what time of year you go the humidity will fall on you like a wall as soon as you get off the plane (There are no jet bridges so if its raining you get wet walking down the steps to the apron, if its not raining than you just get the humidity and heat) the early summer is good but the months of August and Sept start to get more rain and October is the worse. I have been there in Sept / Oct and even during the rainy times there is often a downpour for less than an hour and then that is it for the day. It is not as bad as monsoon season in Southeast Asia by a long shot. I sat in my bungalow on an Thailand's Island Phi Phi Don and watched the rain an the palm trees going sideways in the wind.

I do not understand why you would say " I realize that chica selection will be poor" when you are talking about summer, summer is when it gets good in my opinion, lots of chicas fly in from other cities to make money. And there are beaches even as we speak but you just have t make a reservation, Now this year everything is depending on how long it takes to roll out this vaccine and get things close to normal again. I think by summer it should be well on its way. The economy there has taken a bad hit but I am a firm believer that capitalism will combine with Cartagena being a land of opportunity and it will bounce back fast. May not all the same players in the restaurant and hotel businesses but money never sleeps and it will find its way to open new things to replace the old.

How would you compare Cartagena in October to Thailand. I never really found it unbearable, I just sweat like a pig. And I'm sure the infrastructure in Cartagena is well ahead of where I just spent October, Siem Reap. I usually like to get out of the USA in September.

Can anyone compare it to SE Asian conditions?

Imagine the worst summer day in Bangkok -- that'll be a regular summer day in Cartagena. Just like that. I was in CTG in June.

Granted, I'm a sweating hog, but I've never been as miserable anywhere in SEA as I was in Cartagena. Maybe Manaus. Stroke me as very similar weather-like.

Cartagena is a hell of a city, though, nothing like Manaus. I will come again, but in winter. I was told Jan to mid Feb is much better.

Clock tower pub is open so far under previous reservation on their website, The nightlife has been returning to normal little by little, but many places remain closed, if you are interested, I can guide you in the southern part of the city, it is much less expensive and if you are well accompanied it is safe too. I live here in Cartagena and any help you need is at your service.
