Almirante charges $40 a night for a guest.

Hotel Dann or Las Velas as it was called is right by hollywood beach. No problems with guests but guest fee varies depending on their mood.
Once again, why so many are so willing to bring a chica in their hotel room?? For $10-$20, you get a luxury room at Haiba or Dunes. (see my reports quoted below). No hassle, no danger, no harm to privacy.

i read somewhere that the pool is being fixed which is their best feature. and if you go the beach, i am sure that the mafia crackhead tony will certainly impress your novia. i am sure he will be happy to help your novia make some extra money when you are not around. crackhead and his gang are mafia. i have met two of his bosses. they go in and out of jail for stealing from tourists on the beach there. crackhead is well known for the **** chicas he provides. and some american tourists have been blackmailed over the **** chicas. needless to say, i would stay away from las velas.

The Cartagena Hilton is not the place to bring a working girl. They will make it uncomfortable and if she is too outrageous probably she will not get in.I have been going to Laguito for 4 years and use their ATM at least 7 times a trip and the guard has stopped me on occasion to wand me.High class Colombians are their main patrons and they do not appreciate the ho's and gringos.I have stayed once and it is way overpriced for the area.I would try another hotel if an apartment is not wanted.

I agree it is excellent, but pls note that I mentioned Las Dunas (or "Dunes") twice in my detailed reports on CTG (2007 and 2008). Last time:

I usually go to Haiba, though.

One thing I've done in Cartagena is take girls to Las Dunas, which is a upscale 'love motel' between the airport and the old city. I don't think this option has made it into the "Cartagena Lists" section yet.

It's a well-kept and safe place. A "Suite Especial" runs about $30,000 COP (current about $12.33 USD) for 2 hours. Plus cab fare. This sort of suite typically has a big mirror over the bed and some hardware for sitting the chica down in different positions. Shower. Bathroom. Not many apartments or upscale hotels in Cartagena are outfited with a big mirror above the bed; it's a nice touch when the girl is blowing you crazy and you're just enjoying the vista.

Keeping the girl out of your hotel gives you some options in terms of hitting on non-pro girls in Cartagena. It's much easier to flirt with the reception girls if you appear to be a non-sex tourist. Your stuff is generally safer if you can keep the sex worker out of your hotel room. A little Spanish, a nice hotel and the apperance being a straight American dude have worked very well for me with non-pros.

Using the suites, no one gives me the eye or beats me up over extra charges in hotels. It also gives a option for a private place to take a non-pro who does not want to appear like a sex worker.

It also helped to move my center of attention out of Laguito/Bocagrande, which has paid off well for me.

Anyway, I've had good luck with making this motel part of my routine in Cartagena and thought I'd toss it out there. The address for Las Dunas is Canapote, Carrera 17 No 62-19. Most cab drivers should know the way without the full address.

    Thanks you Hoser.

I'm really not sure where I will be staying but am comparing all my notes & will make a decision as the time grows closer.

Will certainly keep you posted if I decide to stay at one of the major hotels.

Its in the Torre Centauro building which I stayed in last year as well. Building has everything I need but could be nicer. Biggest downside to it is the family room is not airconditioned but the bedrooms are.

I have been dealing with Dave at Colombiarental, I had a pretty good experience with him last year.

Always up for meeting for a drink as I'll be alone the first 10 days of the trip. I met some great non pros last year that I have kept in touch with and are a lot of fun.

Still searching for Barranquila places to stay during Carnaval.

If anyone has any ideas let me know.
Regarding BQ: That's a tough one. I tried same as you trying to get recs for apts in BQ a couple of years back and had no luck ( but I think they exists). Juan Ventura has no places or contacts in BQ.
    Carnaval time is very difficult.
My rec is just get the best rate in adavance at the best chica friendly place you know of.

    Otherwise, you'll be SOL.

But don't expect many bargains. It's all premium pricing at that time of year in BQ.

For BAQ for Friday 2/20 to Monday 2/23 for 1 room 2 people I found 2 hotels.

On hotelscombined.com they had San Francisco Hotel Barranquilla for $130 a night.

On hotels.com they had Barranquilla Plaza for $154 a night.

Everywhere else I looked said no rooms.

You could ask Dave at Colombiarental for help. Or rent a taxi to take you back and forth. You meet someone you like, invite her to spend the night with you in CTG. Of course knowing the crazy Colombians, they will party all night anyway.

    Quick CTG Report

First trip to CTG, sans-novia tonight so did quick checkout of the scene.

Around 11pm, walked past Elktra in Centro, street deserted, didn't go in.

Around 11:30, stopped by LDV. For about an hour, the ratio of chicas to guys was 3:1. Around 12:30 more guys came in and less chicks were still there, for about a 2:1 ratio. Chicas a bit older and a bit larger than I'm used to elsewhere in Colombia. (larger frames, larger builds, a bit chunkier, squared faces) Not my cup of tea though I know tastes vary.

An aguila was $7k, no cover.

I'd say the chicas were mostly 6-7s, some 8s. A couple of outliers 5s and 9s. For you guys who like your chicks meaty, move my ratings up a notch. Not a destination, for my tastes, but convenient to the large tourist hotels nearby.

One of few chicks to my taste (slender build) quoted $200K, lined up with what reports here said to expect for LDV (on the low end even), so I didn't haggle.

Went to a por-rato hotel, forget the name, within 5 min taxi ride. $30k for an hour there.

Why didn't you invite her to visit you??

Maybe you should have invited her to visit you at Tom's place. You could have offered her 30K for una or dos horas de sexo. I know that is more then Tom usually pays but sometimes it is fun to overpay.

Have been messing around looking for a hotel room and found two more search sites. One is called onetime at onetime.com. It is a search engine that connects you to other sites to search. It is like bookingbuddy.

The other site is kayak at kayak.com It will show you prices on other sites. Kayak came up with a price of $48 a night for Cartagena Plaza Hotel. I believe that is the one that is near Almirante and the little police station in the park. Has anyone ever stayed there?? It is only for a single but two nights there would give me a chance to check out other places. Also when walking by, I have noticed that quite often there seems to be groups of chicas that stay there. Might be like letting the fox into the chicken coop.

If the prices that I am seeing on the web is what the hotels are really charging when you walk in and talk to them, then renting an apartment is the best way to go.

Havahopeful, could you perhaps give a rough idea of the prices that the apartment people are giving you. Nothing exact, just a rough range.

Also an invitation to both Havahopeful and GringoLoco2 to meet up for a beer.

Also in a previous post I had mentioned a hotel near the country club. The name is Hotel Bahia. Seems to be $84 a night lowest price. Has hot water, was very chica friendly and a nice pool. A bar and restaurant down by the pool. You are like 3 blocks from the ocean and maybe a 10 minute walk to LDV. I have spent at least 60 days there in the past.

Normally I tend to be a lone wolf but thought that it might be interesting to meet some new people this time. Normally the only gringos I meet in CTG are US undercover agents. Have always been real nice guys but would be nice to see someone who is not checking me out to see if I am involved in the drug trade.

Two great calls on your part Gonzo. Going to the Barranquilla carnival and using Tom33's apartment. I guess you will have a couple chicas a day knocking on the door looking for Tom33!!! I have never met Tom33 but we have a mutual friend.

As far as the Carnaval is concerned, I was able to book a hotel via Expedia for the weekend nights. Bound to be an interesting time, to say the least. I was surprised that I got a room, probably the global recession is hitting CO also.
