I enjoyed the rest of your report, but -- even to avoid touts, I will not wear long pants, real shoes, and a shirt with a t-shirt (no less) in that sun-FRENCH-kissed city. If you don't wear this kind of "outfit" to a sauna, you don't want to be dressed like that in Cartagena, which is, effectively, the same thing.

My understanding of why people cover their bodies in a desert is to avoid a sun or heat stroke. You don't have to suffer like that in Cartagena because, well, there are air-conditioned stores you can take refuge in, praise the lord!

In terms of the touts, yes, MOST OF THEM will take no for an answer -- it's the ones that won't, who are an issue. Sorry, but it's not "like any tourist area in the world from Kathmandu to Manhattan. " I haven't been to Kathmandu, but Cartagena touts are even more annoying than their brethren in Siem Reap, which is (was) to me a gold standard of annoying peddlers. And I would advise newbies against saying "hola" or anything else because they will perceive it as a beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Look, I'm not a spiteful person. If anything, I'm respectful and polite, and I love talking to the locals (however my broken Spanish allows). But you just can't make everyone happy at the expense of your own misery, so it's "gracia" and keep walking for me.

Having said that, Cartagena and its ladies are lovely, and I will return (in winter).

Sometimes when I scan the forum I wonder why the topics for a particular place are so focused on the sexual encounter rather than how to set up that event. Such is Cartagena. At least in the old town, or El Centro. I didn't have much time here, and stayed in the heart of the walled city. As is evident in the forum, the clock tower area and bars in the immediate vicinity (facing the tower or just around the corner) is where it is easiest to find action. On this first night I went to the tower area about every hour or so over an 8 hour period, and visited bars in between, and this is what I found.

3 PM Full of tourists and touts (those guys selling everything from shirts to bus tours to "I have the best quality," which I took as an allusion to drugs). A few girls who looked like they might be looking for action, but hard to tell.

5 PM Same as earlier, but seems like an increase in the population of girls who might be out to relieve the horny of their copas. Still hard to tell, and not really high quality.

Accommodations--I like the privacy of an apt, and airbnb was easy enough with plenty of options. As pointed out previous forums, read the rules and makes sure it does not have a "no guest" policy. I indicated that I was a couple just in case it came up, but seeing the place, this would not have been an issue either way.

Prices--girls on Tinder are available, but start out expensive. The street trollops also start out higher, but are easy to bring down. I stopped at 150 thousand (about $50), as after that it seemed petty and she needs the extra few thousand more than I do. From all I have read, and experienced, this is a fairly standard rate.

Inputs from forum members--I like to reach out to others on the forum for a more focused bit of chit-chat when visiting a new place. Had a great first trip to Colombia mid-June for 6-days, two in Cartagena and four in Medellin. My buddy and I are experienced mongers having been to Costa Rica, Panama, DR, St. Maarten, Curacao, multiple times over the past decade, Colombia has been high on our list of destinations but we have not been able to pull it off until now. It was worth the wait and can't wait to go again.

A little background, I am early 40's, gringo with basic to conversational Spanish, by friend is early 50's, Latin with fluent Spanish. We are both married so not interested in networking on Facebook, Tinder or Colombian Cupid, lining up GF Chicas and building a contact list for future trips. We are in-and-out, fuck as many as we can in a few short days, and forget them. It's not everyone's style, but works for us. So here was our trip.

Day 1- Get into Cartagena mid-afternoon, change a $100 at the currency exchange just to have a few pesos ($2,600 exchange) and hop a taxi to our hotel, Torre de Reloj. Day 3 - Medellin at last! Been dying to go here for years, and finally here after a short 1-hour flight from Cartagena. Staying at the Mansion 2 and they arrange a driver to pick us up for $75 k. Fernando was waiting when we arrived. I walked out of the airport and the weather was perfect, low 70's, no humidity and a slight chill in the air. I was in heaven. Shortly afterwards I discover the airport is a good 2,000 ft higher than the city, it's at 7,000 ft and the city is 4,900 ft, so it's much cooler here, damn it. Anyhow, Medellin is warmer but overall comfortable, nothing like Cartagena. We get to the hotel around noon but our rooms won't be ready till 4 pm. We grabbed our cash and passports, left our bags with the office, and walked down Poblado avenue to the outdoor complex to the currency exchange (2,750 was the best exchange rate we got) and pretty decent since the current rate was 2,900. We changed some cash and walked to Santa Fe mall across the street, awesome 5-story shopping mall. I felt like I was back in the states. Walked to Hard Rock and had lunch and watched a World Cup game, then back to the hotel and got settled. Freshened up and grabbed a cab down to Centro as I was dying to hit some Casas. I did my homework before the trip and knew there were 5 Casas within walking distance of each other, and located them on Google Earth "street view" so I knew exactly what they looked like and could navigate the area comfortably.

First up was New Life. Decent lineup with around 15 girls, my scale was 5 to maybe 7.5. Instead of an official tour, Robert arranged a bilingual driver to take us around, which was better IMO. We went to the building that the Cali Cartel bombed to try and kill his family, the Cathedral prison he built for himself up in the mountains, and his grave site. Another touristy area that had a nice view, overall it was OK, not that much to see but it was nice just to drive around the city. We spend about 4-hours with him and I think he charged $30 k per hour, so we paid him $150 k with tip if memory serves. It was getting late and we have pussy to fuck, so we have the driver (can't remember his name) drop us off at Energy by the stadium. Damn they got a nice lineup of around 15 girls, 2-3 were 5's on my scale but most were 7-8. Overall observations Cartagena is too touristy and hot as fuck! I think the same thing of Jaco in Costa Rica so if that is your thing, you may enjoy it. Medellin is a beautiful city, great climate and awesome people. The people are extremely friendly and polite everywhere you go, one example is Colombia is the first Latin culture I have experienced where they don't blow their car horns 24/7 as its considered rude. Poblado felt like being in Miami with the shops and restaurants, and I never felt threatened or unsafe, even walking the Centro streets in areas where gringos typically don't venture. Granted I would not feel comfortable walking some of these areas at night, but during the day I had no issues.

Mansion was a nice operation and I can't say enough good things about the staff. Even at Mansion 2 they have someone in the office 24/7 to help you with anything you need, whether its calling you a taxi, ordering food for you, arranging a tour, getting you Viagra, or ordering you a girl late night. The last night at 7:55 pm we realized we were low on cash, Robert says the currency exchange closes in 5 minutes, he drops what he is doing and drives us down there personally so we make it before closing. If it's your first trip to Colombia, I would highly recommend them. I was a bit disappointed with the quantity of girls in the Cave at Mansion but we never hung around there for more than an hour, and I think we kept going at odd times when things were slow. It's not a place like Del Rey in Costa Rica that you can grab a girl for a quickie whenever you want, its more GFE and most of the guys we met there were single and networking most of their chicas on FB. In hindsight I wish I had grabbed a girl from Fase II, and we never made it to Loutron which I wanted to try at least once. Overall we got the full buffet of street girls, casas, strip clubs and at least my friend hit a Mansion chica to round things off. As always, YMMV, you can find total duds and great GFE / PSE girls at any location and at any price range, so going high end does not guarantee a great experience, nor does low end guarantee a poor one. Cash wise this was the cheapest trip we ever made, we normally travel with $3-4 k each per trip, and spend every last dollar no matter how much we have. I think I spend $2,000 - $2,500 including hotel. Campo Alegre in Curacao is also cheap as hell, US $30 per girl with a huge selection of Colombian and Dominican chicas, but the rest of the island is expensive so you will pay more for meals, hotel, rental car, etc. Whereby all of this was very cheap in Medellin. Cab rides were $15-20 k from Poblado to Centro and always metered, some of the drivers don't know how to find the addresses but from a safety perspective there was never any issues.

If you want to hit Casas or street action I strongly recommend scouting the locations on google earth street view to get familiar with your surroundings. Good advice here. Back to Cartagena in Sept and looking forward to getting more involved this time around. Did you hire a boat at all? Could you recommend any particular boat operators?

I hired a boat back in November. It was 1. 5 million pesos for the whole day. It was a small cruiser that came with two crew members. It had seating in front and in the back. I'd say you could probably fit ten people on it. It was me, four other chicas, and the two guys running the boat. I can't recommend anyone. Google searches showed about $500 USD being charged for the same type of boat, maybe a little less depending on the time of year.

Remember everything else is on you. You tell them where you want to go and you negotiate prices with any additional services at the islands. If you can't speak Spanish I'd get an English speaking tout to arrange and go with you. I would avoid any disagreements with the locals further out on the islands, heh. You can visit Cholon if you want an island to party on. Or Gruta Azul if you want some place quiet. They can even take you to Isla Baru's playa blanca but further away from the crowds.

Upside is you can bring your own food and drinks on board. Everything is cash as the islands don't have any ATMs that I've seen. Bring a wad of pesos with you.

It is worth doing once for the experience. Otherwise I highly recommend finding a good spot on Punta Arenas. It's on the island just south of El Laguito.

Interesting, so 60 K we paid for the ride (for 2 people) was a reasonable deal. Huh!

There is one thing I forgot to mention in my report. There is a hotel to the right of the spot where the boats drop off folks on the beach in Punta Arenas. The grounds looked very nice, with a pool and Jacuzzi, so I went to the receptionist to inquire if I could use the instalaciones in exchange for consumption (I did something like that in DR at Playa Dorada). He said no, but we could use the facilities for 30 K each. It sounded like a bargain to me to be able to lounge around the pool with access to showers and clean toilets, right in front of the beach. And the prices for food and drinks were cheaper than what my touts quoted me. Unfortunately, we never came back.

So "Rosario Island" can mean a lot of different places. You won't meet hookers at any of these places. You need to bring them with you. Playa Blanca is a nice beach with lots of tourists and 10 x the number of touts than the beaches in Bocagrande.

Choices:

(1) Get to know a chica and have her bring her prima (cousin) or some other person out with you to Playa Blanca. That extra person can watch your stuff when you go into the water with her.

(2) Rent a boat to take you to these places with chicas. If you're going to rent a boat expect about 1. 5 million pesos just for the boat itself. You should ask to stop in Gruta Azul which is a very chill quiet beach on an enclosed island. Grab a jet ski, take your chica out to one of the other islands and fuck her like a wood pecker behind a tree or some shit.
