Uber is a rip off down there.

Uber is real hit or miss.

If you taking a trip over 30 minutes out of town, they can be a good alternative to a taxi or bus.

I would not take them for short trips to and from Centro or around town. Cabs are everywhere, no waiting and only cost 8,000 per ride.

Thanks for the confirmation. Timing is everything, it seems. Agreed on holidays / special events -- it's the worst time to visit. Crowded streets and depleted talent. Sadly, I will likely forego Cartagena in favor of other destinations.

USA Banks have nothing to do with your conversion rate from dollars to pesos. The conversion rate is set by the bank here in Colombia that owns the ATM. You request pesos at the withdrawal and the local Colombian bank decides how many dollars it will debit from your USA Account.

So. I feel like it's the Mandela Effect with Club Pley LOL. Has anyone been able to confirm that it's still open? It's been a ghost-town on my last couple of trips and was one of my favorite spots in all of Colombia. Sad if it's true that it's been permanently shut down.

I'll be down from May 4-May 18. I'll be getting some surgery done but will have plenty of time to play before. I know may is not peak season but will there still be plenty of women? Or will it be a problem?

Totally agree. Many buildings fit this bill. You are not stuck in a single room, usually have a nice patio overlooking the ocean and plenty of room to stretch out and relax. Plus the extra rooms open better opportunities for sex in places besides just on the bed or in the shower.

I will use my last trip exchange price and my bank which is Bank of America as an example.

Exchanging $100 usd, I get 280,000 at kiosk with cash and I get 290,360 at ATM.

The difference is $3.70 USD.

The ATM charges me $2.50 or 3.50 depending on which ATM I use.

My bank charges me $3.50 for using a non network ATM.

I lose $6 to $7 for using an ATM vs the $3. 70 I lose using the cash exchange.

Most ATM's cap your withdrawal around the $250 USD limit. (about $8 lost when changing $250 at kiosk).

As you can see, it all kind of equals out no matter which way you make the transaction.

In the end, it is not a financial decision, it's a matter of preference, convenience and removing the mistakes and bullshit that happens at foreign ATM's which was what sparked the original conversation.

As always there's always some exception to the general sentiment. I am not sure why BoA gave you such bad rate. My use of ATMs have always resulted in a better conversion rate than the kiosks anywhere in CTG. I have Wells Fargo and got close to 3170 cop to 1 USD at ATMs but only 2800 at the kiosks. Even with the ATM fees it was still a better deal. Other notable item is that almost all hotels, restaurants and bars etc do accept credit cards and you get a great exchange rate on a CC transaction. You only need cash for chicas and taxis, for the most part, limiting the need for exchanging currency. To boot many credit cards nowadays don't have foreign transaction fees anymore.
