I am going back to CTG for few days. I see that all recent posts deal with other matters, so let me ask you straight: how is the situation now? lots of rain? many tourists from Europe etc. are still around? Is the girls/men ratio acceptable or not? any hint for me?
Thanks a lot!
(I posted many reports on CTG in the past)

You don't have to go through this trouble if you use common sense .You don't pay for an Apartment on arrival until you look at it,check the AC make sure its working and has a Safe for your items. How difficult of task is this?I wouldn't rent from Juan without seeing apartment either. You can't get a decent apartment in Cartagena either for under 60 bucks unless its a dump. There are 2 apartments Mery has for 60 bucks night which are owned by someone I know and they are both very nice in Mirador del Laquito.

I'll be in Cartagena for 4 nights and don't want to go through Bob573's experience. I've looked for Juan's contact info without luck on this site (before I get flamed, perhaps I missed it or didn't look long enough). Can someone re-post it please?
Thanks in advance.

Posts: 350What is the Apartment Number?
Bob573,
Would be helpful to others if you passed along the apartment # in Torre Centuaro that you found to be substandard?
I've been inside one apartment in that building managed by Mery and it was very nice, along the lines of the Torres del Lago #801 that you rented from Juan.
I've also been inside 5 apartments in Mirador del Laguito managed by Mery and they were all very nice as well.
I've rented from Mery on 14 different occassions and the only time I didn't like an apartment was one time in Torres del Lago. That particular apartment's problem is that it's on the third floor facing the pool. The third floor is at pool level so when people are at the pool it's like them being on your balcony, which I don't particularly enjoy early in the morning after staying up till dawn with my favorite chica. It was also in the A tower, and there was construction going on at the building next door that started at 8:00 am every morning, and I like my peace and quiet at that hour in Cartagena.
So what apartment is it that we all need to stay away from in Torre Centuaro?

Posts: 36An example of Mery's rentals
Mery rents a couple apartments I am familiar very familiar with, both have broad band internet, local phone service and cable TV.
The first three photos are photos Torre Centauro #801. a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment fully remodeled to North American standards 2 years ago.
The last 2 photos from Mirador Laguito #705, a 1 bedroom studio.
Mery has a variety of apartments for rent, as well as Juan. Both are great people in my opinion.

Posts: 34While staying at Playa Mar on my recent trip I had a pleasant conversation with both Mery and Juan at the time. I saw no indication of animosity or competition between the two. They both appeared to be functioning quite well doing their own individual gigs.

Posts: 144I rented one bed room from merry that was very nice.
I can't rember exactly how much I paid, but I think it was $50 a night in Playa Mar. I belive merry lived in the building next door. Not exactly sure about all the details because it was 2 years ago when I was a rookie and went to Cartegena, but the apartment was very nice had a black leather sofa, balcony, tv, and nice bedroom. Anyway Merry was nice and helpfull.
However, I do understand that problems will arise from time to time, and you experence may be different from mine. I would however definately go with Merry again since I had a good experience with her.

You're blasting mongers here that try to save a buck, and you say that you don't care if you spend $500 a day while you're on vacation. But how much did you lose on your deposit? You stayed there two or three days, so I guess $350 or $400. Again, what do you expect? If you pay $50/night for a two bedroom apartment, you're lucky to get A/C. If you'd posted something on here beforehand asking about a $50 apt at Torre Centauro and stating you're not a budget monger, you probably would have gotten warned.
Sr. Lengua's assessment is spot on IMHO. Mery hasn't gotten many bad reports from renters. Landlords, well, that's a different story. But most of us here are renters, not apartment owners.

Posts: 34I just returned six weeks ago from my first trip to Cartagena and rented an apartment from Mery and it was perfectly fine. On five different boards I have never heard anyone speak ill of her.
It is my understanding that Mery does not own these apartments. They are owned by private individuals, and Mery simply schedules the pertinent dates and accepts payment on behalf of the owner. Once payment is made she has no control over refunding money if a renter fails to do their homework and ends up in an apartment they don't like. Nor does she have control over the condition of the apartments. It is the owners responsibility to maintain the apartments appearance and the renters responsibility to determine in a given apartment meets their indivudal standards of comfort prior to making payment.
Your tone and tenor is remenicent of the angry, immature high school age kids I deal with in my work. Kids who need an attitude adjustment. I suggest that if you choose to return to Colombia that you leave the attitude behind.
If you have reason to feel phucked or slighted by a resident Colombiano and use the same threatening tone with them, you may just return from your trip in a pine box as oppossed to the comforts of a 1st class airline seat.

Last been to ctg over 3 years ago but I'm going again maybe Sept.
I've followed the reports, but can any regulars give an insight into changes now and 3 years ago, any general monger observations really.
I have taken an apartment at Laguito. (Not the high priced heavily advertised one's as I wanted to see what it was like on the ground first!).
Is Tony still on the beach peddling overpriced chicas? (and even more overpriced drinks?)
Seems a bit like the high paying crowd has turned up?
LDV was good, many pussies few dicks. Also the old town square had several discos, none of them that good. Went to pleyboy one time, was a bit disappointed with sausage fest.
Are there still mucho streetwalkers in the town square, albeit of a skanky cokey variety? What about demi luna street - much sw action?
Used to be a couple of casas, rosarios and a couple of others one out by the oil refinery - whats still going, and whats the rates?
I always thought a town size of CTG should have more casa's?
Any crackdowns, ley law days, clean-ups, navy-in-town days I should avoid in Sept?
Report and pics on my return.
