Posts: 1316Maybe they will change a mayor, get the city balance sheet right and build a promenade and not follow idiotic gender based days like in Bogota.

People, tourists, whoever, will go back to NYC, Italy, Cartagena, etc, after this has run its course whether it be thru immunity, vaccine, found treatments, etc.
P.S. . This was at the tail end of the article concerning Covid deaths in Colombia yesterday:
"Friday's 21 deaths occurred in Bogota, Tumaco, Mosquera, Cali, Barranquilla and Leticia. Bogota accounted for two of the victims. All fatalities suffered from pre-existing medical conditions, among them, cancer, hypothyroidism, diabetes and cardio-respiratory failure".
We all know who this virus affects most. It's sad when anyone dies, from this virus or from whatever cause of death.
Yes, it's a very contagious, and potentially dangerous virus for some, however, it's not the end of the world.

You missed my point. I know what is a hot spot, but I do not think Cartagena is a "hotter spot" than NYC, or LA, or my city in Europe. We had 20k-30k deaths in several European countries. NYC alone nearly 30k already. We will have many more, once the lockdown is relaxed. Cartagena and Colombia are just entering the nightmare. 1k infected is still nothing.
Cartagena cannot be considered worse than where we live. The numbers reported in that video are very small, compared to the numbers reported in NYC, USA, Europe, my country, my town, etc. Going to Cartagena is not more dangerous than going to many other countries (to name one in LA: Brazil!) On top of all that, we do not know what are the real numbers, hidden as untested. In short: WE (USA and Europe) ARE THE HOT SPOTS, not Colombia (yet).
Therefore, since you could not read my post evidently (or I was not clear enough, depending on how strong we want to discuss), the lack of tourists in Cartagena for the months or years to come will be not because Cartagena now is a hot spot, but because borders will stay closed, or because people will not want to cross borders (to Colombia or to USA) to not risk 2 weeks of quarantine.
I hope this clears the misunderstanding.

I'm not asking for a discussion of California or Europe. I posted about Cartagena in the Cartagena thread.

This virus is a worldwide problem. People is forbidden to move around because mobility is a major factor impacting the increase rate of the epidemic, but nowadays the virus is already everywhere, and so it will be for years.

Evidently cases are starting to spike in Cartagena and the Colombian Caribbean coast:
https://thecitypaperbogota.com/news/...colombia/25061
It appears that cases are climbing quickly according to that article and the data released by the Ministry of Health in Colombia:
https://twitter.com/MinSaludCol/stat...41184081833984
Worldometers shows the number of confirmed, or presumptive, daily cases in Colombia continuing to rise:
https://www.worldometers.info/corona...ntry/colombia/
I do communicate with a couple of chicas there who keep sending me their dirty photos but I wasn't able to get anything meaningful from them on the situation. They are still in lock down with specific days for people to go out based on their gender and ID number. My tout tells me he's worried he will run out of food soon. If Cartagena gets hit hard, which it appears its about to, then that city will be changed for a long time. Tourists aren't going to flock to a place that had become a hot spot for COVID-19. That in turn will cause a death spiral in the local economy.
Anyone currently there care to share what the situation is like on the ground?

Did you see "28 Days Later"? Fortunately the virus is less aggressive, but the sleep seems so deep.

Anyone know when the ban on gringos coming to Colombia will be lifted? I have heard it was for 2 weeks. Was it extended?
