I suppose I should have just walked there myself to find out the real truth, as you are correct in that many taxi's did try to direct me to Pleyclub. It was another frustration that I dealt with I suppose, as I felt most people there were being dishonest about just everything. I should have done better homework and research regarding Cartagena, and I likely would've had a better experience.

In another example of dishonesty, I went to the beach outside of the Hilton (had a connect there which allowed me to use the pool area) and guys would try selling me on jetski's. I really wanted to ride one on my visit but didn't want to make it too obvious to these guys. They started off with an offer of 150k for 30 minutes to which I just balked at and didn't even offer a counter proposal. They kept on going from 120k, then to 100k without me even making a counter. Eventually they got to around 80k for 30 min. They finally asked me what I was willing to pay and I said 50k for 30 min. They said that's not possible. Eventually led them to offer 70k and then down to 60k for 30 min, which I finally agreed to. Right before getting on the jetski's I asked 4-5 different people what the exact time was to make sure the guys didn't try to end my jetski time prematurely, as I was not carrying my cell phone into the water. I rode around for what felt like 20 some odd minutes and noticed the guys at bay waving their hands, signaling that my time was up. I assumed they were probably just lying and continued to ride around for another 2-3 minutes doing a few wave jumps and circles in deep water. When I got back to shore, I asked the guy what the time was and even looked at his watch for confirmation. Ity appears the guy went to the length of changing his time on his phone to make it look as though I used up all my time. I then asked two other people, not involved in the sale, what the time was and it was 8 minutes behind what the guy told me it was. I basically got 22 minutes of riding and was kind of pissed that I lost out on 8 minutes of riding.

This kind of scenario of dishonest dealing left me a bit soured on the place. Everyone appears to be so sketchy and it felt as though you couldn't trust anyone, even with the most harmless amount of intel. If I was standing outside the clock tower and asked someone for the time, and had visual confirmation from the clock tower, I would still be skeptical as to what they claimed to be the time. All in all, I wanted to have fun in Cartagena, and did to an extent, but I felt my trip became soured as I felt too many people there were dishonest and ruined my chances of having an even better time. A modicum of honesty can go a long way, and the people I dealt with were far from it. If they acted in an honest and respectful manner, I'd be more willing to use their services later on, even in a follow up visit, but it appears they just try to extract the most they can from you without regards to common business courtesy.

Again, I probably should've done better research on this site and stayed glued to the map provided by hillbilly. I should've just trusted myself and you guys for the intel for areas and places to go.

I heard good things about that place before arriving in Cartagena, but was disappointed to learn that anyone who I asked about the place, taxi drivers, all claimed the place was closed. I just returned from Cartagena and had a good time there. My lack of spanish speaking skills and everyone trying to take my money eventually was frustrating. Cab drivers to beer salesman would always try to return me less money then what was the actual difference of what I paid for. Really a lot of hassle.

And that is one of the most annoying things about the coastal cities. Taxi drivers will try and screw you for every single peso they can. I never did understand why they do not have meters like they do in Bogota. Whats really annoying is when you agree on one price, then upon arrival they try and charge you extra due to traffic, stop lights, angry wife. Etc etc.

Really annoying even for a native speaker.

I would have a few beers and try tot talk with the girls, but they remained within their own groups and quoted horrendously high quotes of 300k. After a few nights of the girls at LDV knowing I wasn't anteing up their price they all just kind of ignored me. I would eventually leave there around 1-2AM and head over to the clock tower area and Tu Candela's. I would get a beer or two and just chill there chatting up a few girls and possibly take back a girl or two on occasion. I ran into an English speaking local who introduced me to some girls, which was cool. He brought me over to Isis and I was not in the mood to pay the prices of the girls or for beers, especially with an absolutely rude staff that they have. I believe if my spanish interpretation is correct, is that one taxi told me they got caught in a drug raid. I believe it was my fault for not staying close to the English speaking local, as I didn't have a cell phone to stay in touch, but assumed I could do fine on my own. I suppose I should've just used the payphone to get in touch with him.

So this comes out to about $220-$300 a day for a good time in CTG. Damn, I'd hate to see how much a good day in Rio would cost. Say I was willing to forget the beaches for a vacation and do Medellin instead. How much cheaper-if at all-would it be going there instead of CTG? The main reason for Colombia is to try out the Colombian women, not the sand.

Purely for amount of sex, MDE "casas" are hard to beat. Heck for $100, you can have sex with three or four Colombianas. If you want quality fun in the evening with a hottie, dinner and drinks, MDE is equally expensive, if not more. It all depends on what you want. For me, I am a night guy. I do day time casas only when I have nothing better to do. As I have said many times before, CTG is easier to navigate as it is smaller and concentrated. For nighttime fun in MDE, you have to work harder, unless you have contacts or friends with good contacts :-D.

So I'll be visiting the historical city of Cartagena around May. This will also be my first time visiting Colombia. I've been to a few countries, such as the DR and Ecuador. Cartagena has gotten expensive was just there in Feb. Food is expensive at least in the tourist area. Even the condos have gone up in price.
