Question: I'll be in Cartagena for New Year's Eve, the basic room at the Hilton costs 360 USD in that period. I wouldn't go for a mid-level hotel, but I would choose an apartment if I get better value for money. In Kiev for instance you'd have to be an idiot to book a hotel, when you have luxury apartments in the center (jacuzzi included) at less than USD 100 per night (vs 300 USD for a nice hotel).

Can anyone tell me what the NICE apartments (I mean nicely decorated inside, internet, proper furniture) in the NICE areas cost (I mean either in the very center, or in the nightlife center)? And kindly pass me some links where I can check photos and book.

Do a search in Google or Yahoo and type: Cartagena Apartment Rentals and hit enter. There will be many websites with pictures and descriptions. You will be looking to stay in Laquito or Bocagrande.

Hey guys, I'm new to the Columbia, section but tons of trips made to the Dominican, Thailand etc. I'm taking a trip to Cartagena, with 3 other people, I was wondering if there are 4 bedroom Apartments, clean, chica friendly, safe. I also want to send a shoutout to my boy Hillbilly69, for suggesting Cartagena, We were headed to Medellin, but thanks to Hillbillys photos, and expertise we now decided on Cartagena. Any and all information ie. Dos and don't, would be much appreciated.

Sorry I got my prices mixed up in last report when I said $100 I meant 100 Mil peso. Anyway last night I was in the apartment and got 2 unexpected home deliveries. I now understand why Cartagena is such a popular place! First night ended up in ISIS with a beautiful Venezuelan. Took the advice from the forum and arranged to meet her next day but on my way out some goon told me I had to pay a $200 bar fine as he knew I had arranged to meet her. OK. This is a bit unusual, but where can I find the best restaurants. You know, Zagats style. Ambiance, food, decor, and price. Not just looking for the highest price places, but great food service, etc.

Cartagena has a variety of options, if you would like a nice combination of food, atmosphere and reputation for you and a date to enjoy go with a well known palce like La Vitrola or Club Pesca de Manga. La Vitrola will require reservations for sure unless you get there right when they open for dinner (7?) and really sweet talk the host to seat you early. Pesca is not as crowded but I would actually advise calling well in advance and asking them for a table that hangs out over the water. You will be set back 150, 000-250, 000 COP at either place, depending on how much you like to drink.

Look for him on Tonys beach. He will have a cooler filled with boose, and a lot of locals dipping into it. If you decide to hang with him then bring your A game as he is a non stop party animal. Believe me I speak from experence.

I'll toss one out for you, and it applies if you want good beef with ambiance, professional servers and white table cloth: Quebracho in the old city. You can check out more info, including reviews, on Trip Adviser web site.

Thanks for the advice. I usually take cash to mexico and use the ATM machine as needed. Any recommendations on taking cash. Don't want to have too much and be walking around and don't know if it's safe leaving it in an apartment or a hotel. Don't know how reliable the ATM machines are in Cartegena.

I wouldn't worry too much. I find the girls to be very innocent and naive there, especially the LVD ones.

I've had success with the ATMs in Cartagena and I don't always have success with ATMs in other parts of the world.

If I have cash, I put it in a suitcase that I lock.

I know a group that had girls staying day in and day out with them and one guy had an ipod turn up missing. They really had their guard down and that wasn't anything that big of a deal anyways. If you are bringing them back for an hour or so, the chances of something bad happening are even less. You walk from LDV to one of the beach apartments and they show their I'd to the main desk who writes their I'd number down.
