The guy who had his phone stole, and one of the guys who got drugged and robbed were both in buildings with security. Both chicas were able to leave the building. Also both buildings had copies of the cedul and one guy had pics of the girls. In both cases the polica took the reports, but basically did nothing. The polica will take a report but nothing else even an arrest. I work in Colombia 5 months of the year. I stay in a very good building with good security. All the guards have been there working for a while and I ask them, any Chica I come in with can't have their ID back until I come and give it to them because I hand it to them at sign-in. I wrote a report 8-9 months ago when an attempt was made to drug me, but the Chica got the drug beer not me because my little home camera recorder her and I watched it in real time on my phone while I was on my balcony. She drugged herself and passed out, I showed the tape to the guard that morning he woke her up and called polica. The polica watch the tape took a report ask me if she took any of my property, I told them no. They search her for drugs and left the building without her. I gave her 300,000 but she earns every cent last night. Here it is fact the polica will do nothing if a bar Chica tries to jam you up so be careful and safe.

Wouldn't they have a copy of their ID, and their name from sign-in (which I assume matches ID)? Also, at least it would prevent issues where a crew comes in and cleans you out. With just 1 girl, if you're careful and watch what you eat / drink and keep your stuff locked away, you're less at risk.

What about insisting on taking selfies with whoever you take home? Do you think this would deter efforts to drug you, since her face is on your phone now. Taking a picture of ID would be safer but less likely to comply, but a selfie is harmless enough?

Are the difference really so great to the Paisas advantage?

I met a paisa in Medellin once and she had moved to Bogota to "be a 10, here I'm only a 6".

I asked a Colombian friend, and he confirmed, and I think its true since he is costeno, but living in Medellin.

But then now they say that Cartagena is like a magnet.

Girls from all over the country the 9/10's, they go to Cartagena to meet gringos.

You get the costeno style of life, super-relaxed + the majority of alll prepagos of 9/10 quality are working in Cartagena.

Seems what is socially or culturally allowed in one city like Medelllin or Cali is not allowed in Bogota.

If you speak some Spanish, can you ask such a prepago to come to Scandinavia and live here?

Or maybe gringos-extranjeros on vacation in Cartagena already overpay so much so its not a good option for her, to live in Europe?

And why would you want a working girl to live with you? If you want a Colombian wife, why not find a regular girl. If you are the typical Swede or Norwegian, you are probably in a good spot to attract a regular, good looking Colombiana, who will gladly marry you and move to a world class country. Why bother with a ran through working girl, when you can get an early 20's college student with way less mileage?

Not exactly.

This is not like Thailand.

Even if the girl signs in, or leave her ID at the front desk, in many places the chica can just walk out or pick up the ID and leave. Most security do not call the gringo to make sure he gives the OK to let her leave or have a policy where the chica cannot get her ID back unless the gringo comes to the desk with her. If the girl is Colombian little to nothing will be done.

I've been in many buildings with security, and they just prevent people from coming in, not leaving. The girls just leave, and on the way-out security cut the band off of their wrist. If the gringo was drugged and robbed no one will know until the gringo wakes up, if he wakes up. Then the gringo can file a police report which goes little to nowhere.

Lots of stories of drugging and robberies by chicas. Even 2 guys who live here got hit. A guy in my building got drunk and a chica walked out with his phone and some cash. They say the police aren't doing much about it.

Centro is legitimately dangerous now. The influx of American money has attracted the scammers and thrives and they are going crazy in the city walls. Weirdly, the walk to Getsemani is actually pretty quiet. Unless it's for dinner or the clubs, there's no reason to be walking outside after 10 PM within the walls.

I was assaulted by about five chicks who surrounded me fairly early one evening about a month ago. They were all hanging out in front of the street leading from the reloj plaza towards Plaza Madrid. Wrote a report about it at the time. Cartagena has lost its charm as far as I am concerned. In the end, nothing bad happened to me as I punched one of the girls in her stomach as she attempted to grab my phone or wallet from my pocket. They backed off after that. And that's quite the handle you have, Mr. Warbeck! Yes, I also found the walk to Getesamani pleasant with no hassles until you reach Reloj.

So true, after years of visits to Cartagena for both travel fun and playtime with the chicas, I still spend weeks / months on the coast and do this a few times each year BUT I have zero interest in any chica there, zero, just too much hassle and risk and expense and I have no patience for dealing with all the nonsense, no thanks.

First of all thanks a lot to everybody contributing info here, this is really helpful!

I have been travelling a couple of time to Thailand and Philippines and have had really amazing times over there. For a couple of reasons now I am coming first time to South America / Colombia. It appears to be a much bigger hassle getting reasonable flights (from my destination in Europe at least) as well as a guest-friendly accommodation and women are more pricey plus the security issues. So I hope it will be worth it.

Flights are fixed already (5th to 22nd of December). I just want to share with you a contradictory info to what I have read here in the forum. As I got tired of writing to dozens of Airbnb's regarding their guest policy and running out of time on top I decided to just book the highly recommended Ermita Cartagena Hotel (a Tribute Portfolio Hotel). Actually a bit above my price range, but I thought it will save me a lot of trouble and it actually looks pretty nice. Just to be on the safe side I wrote an email to the front desk and asked about their guest policy. To my surprise this was their anser:

"You are allowed to bring a different female guest in the days of your stay. Nevertheless, for each occasion you must pay $360.000 COP. ".

I was really surprised. Maybe they have changed their policy just recently or they don't execute this rule consitently. However, I surely will not take the risk.

Ermita hotel was guest friendly with no charge when I went there in May if this year. Girls just have to sign a paper at front desk. I do not know what the paper said. I booked through Marriott because it is supposedly their brand or they own it. I was given a pretty good room on the ground floor with big bathroom, powder room and big bedroom with king bed. Maybe they changed the rules now. When I went it was just after covid and probably they want to be nice to all guests. Maybe word got around and too many mongers were bringing many girls a day. It was approximately $100 per day with breakfast for two. There were some South Americans staying there with family. Maybe they want to attract more such families. But Cartagena hookers dress decent by South American standards where all girls advertise their body and nobody would know unlike many other parts of the world.

I liked the quiet location across the beach and walking distance to walled city and clock tower. There were many locals selling food nearby tasty and dirt cheap. Area seemed to cater to locals with fishermen selling their catch on the beach. I walked all hours and never felt threatened. For me the trip was on my bucket list but not necessarily for mongering. Mongering for me best is Southeast Asia especially Philippines. But I had some fun in Cartagena. Fellow board member thanks to him helped me I couldn't partake because I was not into that girl. She was all business which I do not like.
