Tony is for the lazy.

I've said it many times Tony is for those who just go to Playa Hollywood and want to sit on their ass and have everything handed to them with zero effort. It doesn't matter if they are paying double or triple, they want to do the bare minimum but expect the top level everything. Its the same type of behavior that happened at Kings in Sosua or where they would sit at Playa Sosua under all the green Presendite umbrellas are and just want to point at chicas and have them come to them. Just as I learned the hard way about sitting under those green umbrellas with the owner putting the drinks chicas ordered on our bill without our knowledge is the same with Tony upcharging on the price for drinks at Playa Hollywood.

I don't get what so hard in going to look for a girl yourself when they are all around.

I've never used Tony, Jose or his son Allejandro chica services. ITs bad enough they constantly ask for a tip via buying them a drink and I never see them drinking it then when the bills comes its just numbers written on a napkin with no breakdown of what was ordered, thank goodness a chica put me on to when ever we ordered something to put a note in our phone so when the bill comes we know the exact number.

Of all the cities I used seeking.com/ SA, the one population wise I probably had the worst success in was Cartagena. For that reason, initially, I kind of ignored it, but I had been dating a woman that I met from the site for almost a year now. She was a government contractor and still being given Covid pay but that ended this month. She was in tears telling me that she had a new job but in a city without an airport 2 hours north of Bogota and was not going to be able to see me much anymore. I asked what the salary was as I wondered if I could cover it and braced to be high balled, and she told me her job was going to pay her $500 a month. I almost laughed when she told me that. That small amount was a relief.

I had been flying between Colombia and the USA to meet her or flying us both to Mexico for a while. We would meet every 2 weeks and the airfares and hotel costs were adding up. If I supported her, I could choose any city in Colombia to put her up in. It took me about 2 seconds to pick Cartagena. I am not sure if it is the sea air, beach, or lack of altitude, but I feel great there, tons better than Bogota.

So this was the month of the move, and we got in and scheduled a time to start to go see apartments. The first one was on Bocagrande, but it did not face the beach. We specified 3 bedroom so maybe there was an apartment available facing the sea. I don't know. Then I asked the price. Keep in mind that I had been seeing condos here priced at $200 k and had been paying $100 a night (or $3000 on a monthly basis). So she tells me the price, and I do the calculation and it is $450 a month. I was just stunned at how cheap it was.

We then drove in the direction of the airport. There was a nice apartment on the 2nd floor with a swimming pool and gym. $550 per month.

Then there was a high rise where the view of the airport was practically like it was in your backyard. I really liked that place. $650 per month.

Finally, we went to the island of Manga. There was one apartment on a high floor with stunning views. The complex had a workout area and three pools, and the apartment for some reason had four toilets. The tenants were happy with the complex and bragged about how nice it was. I knew that was the right place, and we both loved it. It was $700 a month.

So now came the time to sign the lease. The real estate agent was very busy, and I had to actually postpone my flight (it was free as American overbooked the flight to Miami) and met her to sign the papers the next day. My gal was jobless now and so we had to sign the lease together. The agent had never rented to an American before and we had to set up an escrow account and I had to put $5000 in it. I plan on being there hopefully 7 to 10 days per month.

The only reason I am mentioning the $ amount is so people know how much it costs if they are interested in looking into it not to get anyone's approval. I am sure the centro rats, guys fucking bare, and those snorting mountains of cocaine, are going to tell me what a risk this is. LOL. Please do not make me regret being honest. I could have said, "All they wanted was a one month deposit."

For transportation, we rented a scooter for an hour and I am looking to buy one for my gal soon. There is a place, near the great Persian restaurant Persepolis, that rents them. It was pretty cheap like $25 an hour and it is amazing how quickly in the scooter world things have changed from gas to electric. I am not sure what fuel will be easier for my gal to get but I hope we can go the electric route.

I set her up on the soft dirt of the beach, and she took 30 minutes on her own riding. We then went to the road, and she handled herself well there too. She was actually excited to have a scooter, and I think Cartagena is a great city to have a scooter in. We went everywhere on that thing with no issues.

I was actually looking into cities in Mexico where we could meet and so I am happy to get more of a home we can meet in that we can set up like we want. Thing is that I do not mind the flight to Cartagena given how it is broken up (two 2 and a half hour flights) and that the Miami airport is so smooth. I got through Customs there with Global Entry in less than a minute.

It has been surprising to me to see how many people monger in Cartagena given the better and cheaper options in Medellin and Bogota. I suspect it is because the people like the city and just deal with the prices. The problem with Cartagena long term was the prices. The hotels I liked were $100 to $150 a night versus $40 to $60 a night elsewhere, and the Airbnbs ran around $100 a night as well. Having an apartment is like getting better than Airbnb or the hotels for $25 to $30 a night, maybe $35 if you include all expenses.

These prices to me make Cartagena a very interesting place to retire or in my case to settle down in, and I suspect others will follow.

I think using an "agent" like Tony has some advantages. First he bring the chicas to you so you don't have to waste time and effort shopping around. Second, presumably he has weeded out the thieves and poor performers because they are bad for his repeat business. When I first went to Cartagena back in the previous decade I Iearned some real life experiences traversing the city. Now through my Cartagena chicas and amigos (Colombians, not Venezuelans) I have been able to pretty much avoid the Gringo Tax. When I go to Playa Hollywood I deal with Oscar. I met him through one of my chicas. I always get an umbrella, 2 chairs and a table. Sometimes a cooler with ice because I bring own Club Colombia beers, bottled waters and food / snacks from the nearby Exitos. That will cut expenses. Only on occasions I get the Morro Fish plate or Sancocho. Sometimes me and the chica eat before or after the beach. When I go to Tierra Bomba Island (Punta Arena) it only cost 35 k. It includes round trip boat, Full lunch, fish or chicken, table, chair, shade with palm leaves on the beach. We also ride Chiva Rumbera Party buses for 25 k. It will pick you up in El Laguito near the Hilton and drop you back off. Ride for hours drinking partying and stop at popular places around Cartagena like Botas Viejos, the Cartagena Letters at the beach, Forts and a few bars. This weekend me and one of my Colombian chicas will be taking the bus from Centro to Baru and then a boat to Rosario Island with lunch and transportation back to Centro for 60 k each..

Holy crap. Olympica LOL. The way some people act in there drives me crazy. Worse than China imo. Just rude cutting no space for anyone to walk. The other day I was pushing my empty buggy to go. In the entrance. Well an eldery man came from the opposite direction and I stopped to let him go first. The Olympica worker saw this and literally grabbed the front of the buggy and pulled it in against my will very rudely. I was left dumbfounded not sure if its worth getting into a fight with a local or not but if that gad happened in the US where I know the rules I would have lit into him.

The doorman at my building also demonstrates thus overly forceful rude behavior from time to time. I am always wondering if it is worth escalating or not.

My number one rule while travelling has always never been to got into a fight with a local just ignore or walk away. I adopted thus rule after getting my face smashed by 2 beer bottles and a few fists by some low level Taiwanese mafia in Taipei when I mouthed off to one one night having no idea who he was connected to. Sometimes it is very difficult to just stand there passively while someone disrespects you though or is rude.

Cartagena is not cheap. It seems I spend 200 to 300 k pesos daily on the most trivial of stuff.

When I first went to Cartagena back in the previous decade I Iearned some real life experiences traversing the city. Now through my Cartagena chicas and amigos (Colombians, not Venezuelans) I have been able to pretty much avoid the Gringo Tax. When I go to Playa Hollywood I deal with Oscar. I met him through one of my chicas. I always get an umbrella, 2 chairs and a table. Sometimes a cooler with ice because I bring own Club Colombia beers, bottled waters and food / snacks from the nearby Exitos. That will cut expenses. Only on occasions I get the Morro Fish plate or Sancocho. Sometimes me and the chica eat before or after the beach. When I go to Tierra Bomba Island (Punta Arena) it only cost 35 k. It includes round trip boat, Full lunch, fish or chicken, table, chair, shade with palm leaves on the beach. We also ride Chiva Rumbera Party buses for 25 k. It will pick you up in El Laguito near the Hilton and drop you back off. Ride for hours drinking partying and stop at popular places around Cartagena like Botas Viejos, the Cartagena Letters at the beach, Forts and a few bars. This weekend me and one of my Colombian chicas will be taking the bus from Centro to Baru and then a boat to Rosario Island with lunch and transportation back to Centro for 60 k each. All these excursions are information from my chicas. I tend to gravitate towards the flip side of Cartagena, the local scene. Not so much tourist side of things. Having a chicas that can cook is awesome and also saves. I have gotten groceries at Olympic and Exitos and let chicas cook what they want and they will take the leftovers, spices and other ingredients home gladly. I have cut my expenses by more than half in Cartagena now. The apartments I rent in high rises in El Laguito near the beach averages $25 USD per day and able to sign in guest.

Gringos and other tourists pay inflated prices because they follow the template like sheep. Some just pay and do as they are told to do. Also if a chica quotes her price doesn't mean it should be paid. Everything is negotiable. Don't ask them how much first, always make your offer first. Its easier to negotiate from your proposed rate than down from her higher rate.

I prefer to try to enjoy it as a local though my local connections. Locals will help you save because they don't pay those rates.

Not trying to blow my spot up, but I just wanted to do a little comparison between the prices in Cartagena and Pradomar Beach that I went to today in Barranquilla. In Barranquilla they had all the prices up on the wall for everyone to see. So there is no mistaking the price you are getting charged for what. Also there was no charge for the chairs or shade thing. I was there with one of my nurse chicks and 5 more of her family members.

On the bill you can see that we were charged 152,000 for 4 beef meals, 2 chicken meals, 1 big ass fish (that turned out to be some of the best fish that I have eaten in my life) that I had, and including the service charge which was 10,000 (take note guys that overtip). Each meal came with soup, salad, coconut rice, and plantain. The most expensive beer is corona at 8,000 and the cheapest is Aguila for 3,200. She had brought 2 3 liter sodas from home for us to drink though.

Compare that to a mf in Cartagena wanting 130,000 for a chair, umbrella, and 2 drinks. That shit is funny as fuck. I always talked shit about how bad the beach in Barranquilla is, about it being dirty and shit, but I have to admit that I had a good ass time today and enjoyed how warm the water was. An old dog can be taught new tricks.
