Of the five most popular mobile networks in the United States, Sprint, Verizon and Virgin Mobile use CDMA. T-Mobile and AT&T use GSM.
Since GSM and CDMA are incompatible with one another, you can't use a Sprint phone on a T-Mobile network, or a Verizon Wireless phone with AT&T. The same goes for any other mix of device and carrier that you can make out of the CDMA and GSM list from above.

This is so gross (technically speaking)! Imagine if T-Mobile and AT&T were still so technically prehistoric to be stuck with GSM and not have moved to 3 G or 4 G (both can use CDMA).

ANY decent modern phone today is multi-standard and multi-band. It means it can connect to the best (highest capacity) network available among all signals received. Likewise, the same phone able to connect to say a 4 G LTE network in a country, where some set of bands is allocated to LTE operators, will be also able to connect to 4 G LTE networks in another country, where another partially or fully disjointed set of bands is allocated to LTE.

Many years have passed since the old times when there was the European GSM and the American GSM, and most GSM phones were dual-band but not four-band, thus able to work in both worlds.

The only case of lack of compatibility is when the device lacks a specific band, which damn is the only used by your operator in the country you visit. It happened to me with my 4 G mobile wifi router in Ecuador, which was not able to connect to 4 G because the band allocated to 4 G operators in Ecuador was one of the very few missing in my device.

The only possible reason why "you can't use a Sprint phone on a T-Mobile network, or a Verizon Wireless phone with AT&T" is that those phones are locked and do not allow to connect to competing operators, regardless the type of network.

I'm debating taking a chica with me to Isla Baru. I figure since she has a better command of the language that I would let her negotiate with the touts on the beach. I will have a general idea of prices so that I'm not completely in the dark. Is it a good idea to let the chica bargain for me?

Last night was first in Cartagena.

Honestly, after reading all this, if I were living in CTG I would move to Centro just to chase you and squeeze out some money from a helpless first-time tourist.

- You have given around the impression to have no clue where to go.

- You have given 10 k to a kid (If I want to help a street kid there, I'd give no more than 1k or 2k. After giving 1k, you will be surrounded and chased by a swarm of his friends, who have seen you give money. Imagine if they see you gave 10 k and pass the word around.

- Totally pointless the idea to offer drinks to a "new friend" and his friends. Spending $90 for that (hoping for what back?) is simply crazy. You should not spend such an amount to offer drinks and have fun with a bunch of girls, imagine with that group of guys. Now they have passed the word around. Avalanche effect. Imagine ten times more people chasing you from that night on.

If that was not enough, in these COVID times I cannot imagine a tourist traveling to Colombia to have fun, disregarding the risk to get sick, or however the risk to get stranded in a foreign land, for example (but this is not the only case) because found positive the day before the flight. This means that currently:
a) there are less tourists;
b) there are more desperate people in need of cash to sustain themselves and their families;
c) hence there is more pressure of desperate people on tourists.
You have put gasoline on a fire burning high already.

However, mistakes are useful when they become lessons learned. Good luck!

They do have a market niche! They know they are going to meet some helpless tourist who will give them money in change of nothing, sooner or later. They don' know WHEN they will meet him, but they know they will, if they are patient. It's like fishing.

But getting back to John Wick, of course you should get rid of that tour guide immediately and probably move out of the old city which is just loaded with scammers and hustlers of every type.

Very wise advice. The strongest reason is that now those scammers know the prey. Like sharks they will swarm around the prey, detected tasty and easy and reported by word of mouth around the square.

Well I haven't seen much evidence that they're on drugs, they like to party and they don't want to stay in one place for too long. They like to come over and do a little drinking with you and have sex they love to have sex. If they don't want to hang around all day having long conversations that they have to decipher in less than perfect Spanish that you speak. They would rather go out clubbing or travel around or whatever it is that they do. So for those reasons short time is almost universal unfortunately.

IMHO Cartagena chicas are used to tourist. Unlike Cuban you probably won't be her first American she's ever seen or had sex with. The Cubans are still a little intrigue meeting Americans. Back in 2015, Mr. Gogo and I will they only Americans I seen in the area. Our Cuban guy friends were quick to tell the Chicas we were from America. Hell they lied and pretended to be Americans because they felt Cuban women Treated foreigners better. Many Cuban chicas have the mind state that maybe you will Recruit them as your girlfriend and take them to financial freedom.

Cartagena chicas are pass that idea. They see foreigners as a way to make some quick money. They are not trying to leave their country or looking for you to take them to financial freedom. Unlike the DR; they are still known for giving you what you paid them for sexually. Meaning Overall business transactions are better on the average with no alternative motives. Colombia chicas as well as their country are more modern than both the DR and Cuba.

I've had the exact opposite experience most of the time. You can see my old reports if you go far back into the thread pre-pandemic. If you have a nice place, aren't too bad to look at and have chemistry they'll try to move in. I think I have this experience because I learned not to "negotiate" a rate or anything ridiculous like that. Just show up. Be cool. Give them some cash after sex. I usually give them twice the going rate if they spend all day or night with me, and only 200 k if its short time. If you immediately start asking about all day rates and shit you'll end up with a very bored chica who just wants the money and will leave as soon as she can.

Pre-pandemic I had a regular Venezuelan who would get upset if I didn't fuck her until sunrise. I had to get her to agree to leave at a certain time because it was too much.

Not many people do this, I personally have done this a couple of times but it was after I had developed a rapport with certain chicas. Most chicas would certainly rather not do this because they would obviously rather spend time partying / hanging out with their own friends, or they have kids and no babysitter. They would rather make a quick score for some cash on an ST. But even considering all this it certainly is possible to find a chica that would do this. I myself would never pay a chica more than what I consider the TLN rate for spending all day with me, 400 k COP. For several days you may be able to negotiate something lower YMMV.

The general warnings about bargaining with chicas for any long term situation are as follows, First she may just start getting on your nerves after the first little while, second she may try to get squirrely about the arrangement, like maybe she spends a little time with you then says she has to run home to check on her baby and then you do not see her for a while, etc etc,. So most people I think would recommend that you first start out at shorter times with a chica then I would just gradually increase the time with her to see how it works. Then I would also make sure that she understood to the detail exactly what the expectations were for the arrangement. You certainly should not pay upfront, you might pay as you go along but never upfront. If say you agree to pay her such and such amount of money for a certain amount of time, and you do not get the details down about her being with your most of that time and you think maybe then you want to not pay her what you said, then problem with getting bad service and not wanting to pay is that she can call the police and raise a stink, so you need to cover yourself in everyway you can.

Seeking arrangements is a website you might consider using where you can contact chicas ahead of time and be communicating ahead of time so that you might come to more understanding then some chica you meet in the usual P4 P venues, but I can't testify to any personal experience with that, maybe some other BMs can.

In Cartegena on Cra 6 in Bocagrande the Urgent Clinic will give you antigen test results in a couple of hours if you go back as well as a printout which comes in handy. My understanding is that they are open 7 days a week 24/7 much you might want to double check that with them. Please note different airlines may require different tests although an antigen test is all it is required by the US. You need the covid test results and the imig form filled out online to get back out of the country

I think by may this requirement will go away if you had the vaccine done.

Don't say I didn't warn you because I did.

Last night was first in Cartagena. I ended up staying at a place by the clock tower so ID frequently walk around in that area. I've never seen such creepiness, straight up ghouls will start walking with you just mumbling to themselves. I actually stopped and asked a guy to leave me alone, that I didn't want or need anything, and I just stood there mumbling and wondering what I might need or where I might be going. Later I gave one 10 yo 'kid' 10000 COP because it was his fourth time approaching and walking with me. Told him it was "too leave me alone for the rest of the night. " he might've taken it wrongly but I doubt it, you cannot give these people your attention in any form. Next thing I knew there was a guy on a bike encroaching upon me, and a taxi with the driver leaning halfway out the window to offer me stuff. It was from a movie. Told the kid "what'd I give you 10000 for?" he goes "10000 is nothing, pizza costs 20000 and I have brothers / sisters. " Another guy then approached me on foot and I looked over and saw a pub bouncer right there so I just stopped and let the goons walk off. I went into the pub.

Helplessly looking like a tourist and travelling alone is NOT a recipe for success here.

Aside from that, went too paraisa del marino last night and holy shit was it popping. 40+ hot girls looking fire.

I had a really sketchy night overall but one dude I met on the street said he'd take care of me and be my guide. Actually followed through on his word. I did end up getting him and a bunch of people idk 3 rounds of beers, which all in ran me $90 which is a bargain for a sense of safety. Thing is, idk if I can really trust the guy.
