On Calle 1 B in El Laguito there are a few places that have complete meals for 10,000 COP. A local also recommended Sabores del Mar to me. It wasn't bad. First time I had rib soup.

On that street the place with the grill outside is a pretty good.

Carbon de Pollo on Calle 6 is very good-- meats and typical Colombian plates at $10-$15, La Dulceria on Cra 2 across the street is also good. And there are quite a few Lebanese places around.

All the cool people go to Juan Valdez near there. LOL.

I am looking to maximize the experience. I will be there for seven days. I travel once a year and need to make the most of each opportunity. I read your posts about how helpful Tinder can be in finding quality escorts, but for security reasons I cannot sign up for Tinder on my own. I promise that you do not need Tender and that Tender will not add anything to your experience that you cannot find at the Clubs La Dolce Vita and Space or at the Clock Tower area. While I do truly enjoy the food at La Cevechieria. It's the epicenter of annoying people trying to sell you stuff.

To save space, I'm not going to quote Mojo's post again, just suffice it to say that the current information being tossed about amply demonstrates my long time belief that the only place to get realtravel info is this board and its predecessors years ago. Between guys who are having $5000 nights in FKKs or tweakers banging in a smelly chickenshack in Poipet, you can find everything you need to know about food, drink, directions, etc. Far better than Lonely Planet or Trip Advisor.

So what's the vagrant, beggar, peddler situation like? The amputee beggars / peddlars here in Siem are far worse than anywhere I have ever been, not that they are annoying, its just sad, especially when they are widows. I usually allocate $5 a day for them.

I'm staying in laguito. Bocagrande, Gestimini, San Diego and of course Centro are all on my list.

I want to check out Manga and la boquilla eventually as well. But maybe not this trip. We shall see. Thanks again!

Getsemani also has nice places. And if you head north of the old city, away from Bocagrande towards the airport there are less touristy places as well. BTW the tourists are not USA either, many from Bogata and Medellin.

Just walk around Boca grande and you will see places where locals are eating. In my opinion it's better to pay the tourist prices. And not just tourists wealthy Colombians.

It is a tourist town, so any fancy place in Bocagrande, the walled city, Getsemani is going to charge tourist prices for tourist food. However, it's still, even with the recent decline of the USD, very inexpensive compared to US or European prices. The most expensive entree at a white tablecloth, foreign restaurant is going to be $10 to $15 max.

I understand. Thanks! I'm just going to enjoy and not be cheap. I'm thinking of retiring there in a few years so I plan to try to see a lot. I have a few solid contacts. Should be a fun trip!

Good post! I'll be there in 2 weeks. Can you recommend a couple of places to eat good and not pay tourist prices? Any good places for fish and cerviche? Gracias!
