No, she was not a schoolgirl or whatever like that. I think it's ages that there is no such things in Cartagena. She was a normal pretty girl around 18-20 from Medellin, like others you meet at Elektra.

Finally, Cartagena is the FIRST PLACE I EVER HEARD in my life, where if you rent an apartment you are requested to register your guests at the front desk! So, what's the point to rent an apartment? When I rent an apartment, the apartment is mine and I invite whoever I like, as far as guests are decent, do not make noise or do something that affects negatively the reputation of the building.
If you understand Colombia's attitude towards sex, and the problems that Colombia has in general, this is just nonsense. I have lived in many apartments with security in MDE. Neighbors in buildings are very disrespectful when it comes to noise. The police won't respond to phone calls from security and if they do arrive apartment owners won't open their doors and will continue making noise. This certainly doesn't sound like an environment where registering a guest would be necessary. I have had many girls 18-20 years old and there has never been a question asked. This is what happens when a bunch of tourists overrun a small area and this is what has happened in Cartagena IMO.

so we had to take a taxi and move to la jaiba. besides the additional cost, it is not the same to go to a motel for sex, or enjoying sleeping at your place with a girl you like.

not having the cedula does not mean a girl is ****. possessing a cedula implies a bureaucratic procedure that not everybody carries in colombia.

to be sincere, i don't understand all this fixation that i notice here about ids. i divide my monger time between south america (colombia mainly) and southeast asia (singapore, kuala lumpur, indonesia) , where i go often for work. in singapore, kuala lumpur, or indonesia, no hotel ever asked my guests to show i'd and register at the front desk. and i am speaking about sheraton and other upper-class hotels, not dicey small places. i come back with my new friends, i say hello to security, and we go to elevator. so simple! no hassle! i like simple life.

ps: is elektra now up and running as at old times? i will be back in december.
it is a legal requirement to have a cedula after the age of 18. they are free and you can do almost nothing without one. if you are a foreigner with any type of visa that is good for a year or more. you have 2 weeks after entering colombia to apply for a cedula extraneria.

"every resident of colombia over the age of 14 must bear an identity card (tarjeta de identidad). upon turning 18 every resident must obtain a cédula de ciudadanía, which is the only document that proves the identity of a person for legal purposes. i'd cards must be carried at all times and must be presented to the police or military upon request. if the individual fails to present the i'd card upon request by the police or the military, he / she is most likely going to be detained for 24 hours at a upj (unidad permanente de justicia) even if he / she is not a suspect of any wrongdoing. i'd cards are needed to obtain employment, open bank accounts, obtain a passport, driver's license, military card, to enroll in educational institutions, vote or enter public buildings including airports and courthouses. failure to produce i'd is a misdemeanor punishable with a fine.

id cards are free of charge, and duplicates are also free."

id cards for minors are called contraseñas. as are the temporary id cards given to adults who are waiting for their cedulas if they some how lose their cedulas.

Veiled? Quite the opposite. Just info for a first-timer in sorting it out. Cartegena a useful opportunity for Americans who seldom get the chance to observe the Isreali first-hand and form his own opinions. Like the girls have, LOL.

Should this be in Trip Advisor

I even ate lunch twice at the small outdoor restaurant directly across from the Hampton Hotel. For about 15mil (USD $8) I got a large carne asada (skirt steak) , french fries AND rice, and a tomato slice / lettuce mini-salad. Even better was the lemonade, which seems a Cartagena specialty. Everywhere I ate I ordered lemonade, and it was always delicious.

    Good luck to all!
I thought this was Tripadvisor? But Better!

Any longer trips should definitely be confirmed beforehand as you say. Had a bad experience with this 6"8 tall Colombian guy who wanted to charge 60k from Centro to Laguito. 60k! Luckily I speak Spanish and we went to the nearby police for mediation and a 20k fee was decided on.
I suppose you could take a taxi within Laguito / Bocagrande. It is only a 10 minute walk but I was really referring to going to Centro or some place further out. Yes, you don't want to face that situation especially if you don't speak Spanish.

And I also was rejected by the same reception, when I came with two girls one afternoon (no way to admit 3 people in a room sold for 2).

How does it work at Hampton? What happens if, after having been directed by that employee, you go straight to the room without stopping at 17th floor?

Did you have any glimpse of their possible reaction, should you arrive with 2 friends instead of 1?

At this point, the only option seem to be an apartment, but also there there is I'd requested at the door.
That is why I was shocked a couple of months back to hear about a hotel that does not need registration. It's very uncommon. IMO, apartments are the way to go to avoid the "walk of shame" involved with hotels.

You should always go with chicas that have IDs. Make sure they have before you leave to go to your place. I won't even go into why you would want to bring someone back without ID.

The hotel itself is super-sterile. Very American-style with almost no flavor of Colombia.

The big plus for the hotel is the rooftop pool. I used it several times. The views are great and you might get lucky and find some freebie targets there.

I won't stay here again. There are dozens of smaller hotels in this area, no doubt less costly, plus I like apartments. Next time I'll try an apartment near Laguito.

Some guys have so little game they can't pick up prepagos in a target-rich club like LDV.

I had no intention of taking out any girls from there though, given the ridiculous 100k minimum drink policy. It's just too much of a hassle, and overall cost when you factor in the typical price of the chicas there. It's too bad, because it's a great venue and there were a lot of hot chicas there.
So LDV is nothing more than a clip joint now?

For great food and atmosphere at dinnertime, I took a 7mil cab ride from Bocagrande to Centro Vieja. Besides the appalling Hard Rock Cafe, there are seemingly dozens of romantic restaurants serving excellent food. My favorite was El Balcon de San Diego. If you have a date, try this restaurant then wander the small but beautiful Plaza San Diego afterward. It's what the French Quarter of New Orleans would like to be, if only it were not filled with drunks and idiots (sorry if I am offending the drunks and idiots in the French Quarter).

There is some interesting prepago action in the Centro Vieja, though I did not partake. After approaching one good-looker, I realized she was a he. Retreat, retreat! With more time, I'd probably search around for some gems.

I didn't visit the casas here in Cartagena. Though I like the format, with the ready availability of La Dolce Vida girls and the high level of service I got with them, casas just didn't seem necessary.

Bottom line: IMHO, rule one for Cartagena is bring a novia (gf) or at least a chica (prepago) you really like. It's a couples place. If you fail to comply with rule one (as I did) , you can't go far wrong renting an apartment near Laguito and visiting La Dolce Vida each night about 11pm. The beach is nearby for as much or as little sun as you can handle. If you find a LDV girl you like, and you have the time, take her to the better beaches that are a boat ride away.

The above will be my plan next time I return. Since air fares from Medellin are under $200 USD round trip, I'll make Medellin my base for a while, then occasionally take novia-of-the-week to Cartagena for long weekends.

Remember to skip December in Cartagena as that is when it is crazy-crowded.

Sorry there's not more info about P2P in this post, but I've often benefited from general travel info on this site, so I'm giving back. Also, in response to one of my earlier posts, someone commented that he appreciated the post since he was stuck in sex Prison aka the USA. I want to politely remind everyone that the purpose of this site is NOT to provide vicarious thrills to stay-at-homes. Buy Penthouse and read the letters if that's what you're after. The purpose of this site is to assist those who travel in finding P2P action. The site proved immensely helpful to me during this, my first trip to Colombia. So I'm just paying it forward.

This is my last post about Colombia until I can return again. Which I definitely intend to do. If you can speak some Spanish, it is arguably the premier country in the world for beautiful girls who can be enjoyed for reasonable amounts of money. Good luck to all!
    Archimedes,

Another good report amigo, thanks for sharing. I do want to correct one of your assumptions though- I wrote I was stuck in the USA, but that's only a temporary condition. I was in Cartagena in September, and will be there again in November. I'm there several times a year, and I've been there so many times I've lost count. I look forward to many more trips there. Glad you enjoyed your trip, and hopefully you've got many more to enjoy in your future as well.
