in general, the chica will almost always pick the guy who they can communicate with.

Sorry, I hit return or something without meaning to. Anyway, I must also admit that one of the great things about latinas is that there are more than a few who do in fact want to be with older guys, which will be my MO should I remain single for another 10-15 years, though I plan to relocate to S.A. next year and doubt I'll be able to hold out. And as far as understanding what makes them tick, I have the rest of my life to solve that quandary.

The economics issue is definitely a factor, which is why some español will help you better penetrate people and perceive any ulterior motives, not to mention save you a lot of money, whether in a taxi, club, bar, burdel. I know that when I was living and working in Central America, there were plenty of chicas who looked at Americans as if they had the word 'VISA' on their forehead. Some of these girls are real sly and have obviously been playing the game for a while. (I know soldiers who were stationed at Comayaguela in Honduras who married natives then got ditched as soon as everything was legal and they were here in the US.) On the other hand, many of them couldn't be happier with a gringo, especially since we come from a society that protects women and observes their myriad rights, unlike many latin countries, and most of the latinas I've met who have had the chance to be with a foreigner admit that gringos are better in the sack. I will say that in Colombia there were plenty of gold diggers, especially since going 'mojado' (wetback) isn't an option due to geography. Actually, almost no one understood me when I used that term. For them, marriage is the best option to get a ticket out, more so when obtaining a visa to Europe or the US is extremely difficult and not cheap. Though if these dudes keep overpaying, they'll end up decreasing the number of women looking to leave as all those dollars tend to liberate and empower. Antes que te cases mira lo que haces.

Alachingada: EXCELLENT post. Fortunately, you are incorrect in your skepticism about the viability of relationships between younger Colombianas and older men (ambos nativo and extranjero). I have a WAYS to go until 50, but I can say that MANY Colombianas genuinely prefer 30 or 40 somethings to guys in their 20s. While economics cannot be discounted entirely, it is also a mistake to assume that it is nothing more than economics at play. No offense, but IMHO it takes YEARS of interacting with women before you can even begin to understand what makes them tick. Lord knows I still have MANY years before I will attain that capability.

I cannot compare Colombia for a 20something as my first trip was at 40. There is no doubt there are some hotties I might have scored back when I was 25 and lean as could be that would not be interested now. At the same time, there are LOTS of hotties who I COULD bond with now that I never could have when I was in my 20s.

Finally, your point about being able to communicate is KEY; while many WSGers cannot become 20 again, nor can they get into shape such that girls would be attracted to them BECAUSE they are acuerpado, ANYBODY, no matter how old or fat, CAN learn enough Spanish to communicate at a basic level. Those who refuse to try should really go to the DR, Thailand or the PI instead as I think they will enjoy it more than Colombia.

I've been all over Central America, Cuba and Mexico and I find the people in all those places to be quite pleasant, especially the Mexicans, and I find that my personality translates perfectly in Spanish, perhaps better, which has afforded me the most incredible and unbelievable experiences of my life south of the border, not to mention more friends and chicas than I know what to do with. Colombians are indeed as gracious and charming as they say, they speak excellent Spanish (which is important if you know how bad they speak in the Caribbean/Central America), and they left me in awe from the moment I landed in Bogotá to the day I left Cartagena.

I highly recommend learning some Spanish, especially if you really want to learn something about Colombia and its people besides how well the girls can grind. I never got so much tail with so little effort in my life, and I've met way too many desperate chavalas in my life. Whether it was a waitress at El Cucharón, a chica in the plaza, or getting phone numbers at La Piscina for an adventure the following day instead of a rushed 20 minutes/60K on the premises, the español never failed, and it earns you mad respect. It also brings you right into the reality of Colombia given to you by the people who know it best. No travel guide can give you that.

I should add that I'm late 20s, possess the aforementioned traits and am in great shape (which no doubt helped and added to the novelty factor), but speaking the language opened so many damn doors there, and made the chicas I didn't choose jealous, as my muñeca even insisted on stopping in at LDV one night after we went out for some eats just to gloat and earn bragging rights. Man, that's when you know you scored, more so when the girl stays with you for 8 days, sleeps with you until 2 PM every day and never asks for a cent after the first night - though she did get drinks and discos on me the whole week, in addition to some companionship, which they value a lot more than you think, especially when so many of them are young, single moms who have often been dicked and ditched by those ungrateful Colombian men. Sorry to toot my horn, but I had a blast, learned a lot, and wanted to put my two cents in, whether you like it or not...

In the time I have been reading the forum your post has to be one of the very very best, and thank you for taking the time and providing us with great insight, for what you shared is priceless, and I totally agree with every point you made. Here in the USA I have been looking for the Vietnamese locals in an area that they call "Little Saigon." Your chances are 1 in a million of ever getting a cute younger girl to go out with you there. I have been trying for 1 month now. Thought that I was getting close once, but the person was just "being polite" by smiling and talking to me and there was no chance. It may be different in Colombia.

I did try a couple of agencies in Colombia but no luck except for some major gold diggers. I didn't mean to diss any of the older guys, especially since I know many of them are swimming in vag down there and putting out the vibe like the yutes. You are correct in assuming I don't have much trouble getting in like Flynn up here, but it is because of this that 1, I only pay for it down there if I REALLY like the girl and 2, I look for the girls who want more than a session with a time limit. Though being able to chat with these chicks and make them open up often compels me to give even the non-pros a little something, as they often have life stories that break your heart, but alas that is my experience with manifold women across southern latitudes. john05, in a lot of cases the age difference is a better factor in getting it for free in colombia. i am 43 and my last trip to colombia i was asked out by a 15 yr old and her tias in their 30’s where within ear shot and didn’t even bat an eye and they all knew my age. before i get flamed as a ****, i declined the offer graciously but that is just a small example of how some latinas like older men.

i have some platonic amigas in colombia as well and they have told me that in a lot of cases that a colombiana is attracted to an older man not because of financial gain but for his life experience. they feel that an older man can teach them many thing of life that they might learn from and they find he is more interesting than the 25-30yr old male. this attitude transcends all social classes in colombia.

the exception is some of the older women 45+ sometimes look for the younger man for an affair. i think they call it “comir pollo” or something like that… lol.

so my advice to the 40+ guys going to colombia is dress well, use a nice aftershave and most importantly be confident. as one amiga put it a 40+ man is a trophy to a young woman in colombia.

So you can have pretty much any girl in Colombia? Really? Well if you can have the non pros for free...why not? IMHO, in your 20s you should be able to get free pussy in the USA or any other country. You are young and in good shape. That is enough. Try it when you are 50. You will see the difference my friend. BTW, if I lie about my age many of the girls will go with me for free, but if I tell them that I am 49...forget it. Being in your 20s is priceless. Get as much as you can because you will never be able to go back. It is like being under 18 years old. You can't repeat those days sir. One exception is if you are filthy RICH. Then, you can be 50 and still have hot girls.

I have to agree with what the others are saying about overpaying. I've sometimes paid 10% or 15% above market just to seal a deal. But please don't overpay by too much more than that.

I HATE to get too involved in this somewhat childish discussion about overpaying chicas, but I do want to thank Bambino for "taking one for the team" - that is EXACTLY what you did.
Those of us who live here (and, BTW, provide an endless source of updated info on the scene here, as well as guidance when you are down here visiting) have to deal with the inflated prices you who are only here for a short time don't feel quite as hard. To you its just 30U$S dollars more, but to me it's thousands (or even 10's of thousands) of dollars over a year.
Once all the chicas are expecting 300 pesos, the ones we want will want 400 or 500, and the cycle will continue.

I live here because I like the lifestyle, and at least for now, I can afford my hobby.
It's possible that your silver spoon has kept you from ever working for tips, but I have, I NEVER thought anyone was a "great guy" because he overtipped/overpaid me - I thought he was an a**hole, (even though I took the money).

Rufus, It is true that my girl did pay for her own Airline Ticket From BAQ to San Andres, but yes I will eventually pay off her Credit Card. Hell this is my fifth trip to Colombia and I always bring a suitcase filled with goodies.

Besides the forum I use this as a scale on how much to pay, I pay a girl what I pay for my room! In CTG my average cost for a room is $50 In Cancun it is $125 In Thailand it is $20 In Lima $20.
