I haven't heard of a gringo getting robbed or scoped in Manrique or Aranjuez, but Poblado and Laureles you hear those stories on the weekly. Thieves don't go to the barrios to rob gringos! They go to gringoland looking for dumb and drunk gringos to scope and rob duh. They see me in a barrio they think I'm a poor motherfucking chino jajaja. I'm not worth their time and energy hehe. Paisas party heavy in general, and I'm a chino paisa hasta la chimba hpta! Well, I don't think I'm cocky, I just report my experiences and provide my personal opinions. I do get sarcastic on my posts, that's just for fun and games. Anyways, enjoy the Feria de Flores everybody!

Remember this: the barrios are dangerous, youre much safer in Poblado and Laureles where your chances of getting scoped or robbed is near imposible :)

This is not only about safety. Poblado and Laureles got the best restaurants, bars and nightlife. Best hotels and apartments. Best cinemas and shopping malls. It makes no sense to go across the whole city to one of those barrios, let alone stay there, especially if a monger doesn't speak Spanish. I'm not new to MDE, but can't imagine myself partying in Aranjuez, why would I go there if I could party in Provenza and have fun? You need to make a disclaimer here. You speak Spanish and you bought an apartment (in Bello, if I'm not mistaken? This means you are a local mf now, and live there for extended periods of time. The truth is, very few of us can replicate what you, and Osteoknot, for example, are doing (not that we all want to do the same though).

P.S. you never heard of a gringo getting robbed or scoped in Manrique or Aranjuez because very few gringos, if any at all, ever showed up there. Your sample is ridiculously small lol

Arrived today at 2 pm but it wasnt until 4 pm that I was able to clear customs! The airport was crowded! We had to disembark via ladders outside the terminal. Climate is great, around 21 - 22 C. Will start pinging contacts after my initial milking by my driver girl. Will keep reporting later, have to stock on food supplies, I got a duo pack of JW Doubleblack at the airport for about 95-96 USD.

About atms, I think I hit the jackpot with my card, a Payoneer MC, since it also has GBP, the exchange rate is 4800 pesos per 1 GBP!! I got this rate in the Bancolombia ATM at the near Carrulla supermarket.

Well, congratulations!! The Visa Exchange rate for this weekend (Saturday-Sunday-Monday) is 5,122 Colombian pesos per 1 GB Pound. Did you accept the bank's assured / guaranteed rate? That might be accounting for the difference. What was that old saying. "Reading the forum has its benefits" . Something like that.

The odds are grossly tilted toward crimes against gringos happening in the Poblado-Laureles-Sabaneta triangle. Outside that zone, it's of course much less likely because there are so much fewer gringos in the line of fire by comparison.

I will start this combo later this week and will give it a try. I'll have almost 2 months to try it in a sort of lab / controlled environment. I'll report back in a few weeks. I will need this when I visit Medellin for the first time in September.

Combo works! Amazon had everything pretty cheap. In my lab controlled.... Ahem solo environment. I was able to get AM and PM samples to test the progress every day. After about 3 weeks it has been a noticeably consistent increase in fluid. Now I just need a lab assistant when I get back to Colombia to validate everything. I will need about 20-30 peers to review my study to be sure.

It may or may not be worth continuing, but I will stay on it a while.

I remember one of our posters, Sjobs, who was stuck outside Colombia during the Pandemic came up with all kinds of stories of how he would smuggle himself into Colombia when it was closed by bribing Immigration officials if necessary, and even sneaking in from Venezuela.

All total fiction of course, but the posts where quite entertaining being so unbelievable.

And with you being a high wire act, with no balancing beam, or a safety net below, it surprising that you didn't get jacked up on this trip.

All I know is that there is a "bug" called giardia that you can get from rimming and it is not fun. Of course there is a med or two to get rid of it but for some it can be tough to get rid of. Diarrhea like you have never had. You can also get it if you have a scratch and wade in water with the bug which is common. I had it once from walking in a stream in Costa Rica countryside. Didn't rim that vacation, hahaha. At least I don't remember doing so.

Even he can run out of luck in a flash and without notice. Manrique, Bello, whatever, they damn sure know he isn't a local. He's also cocky and partying heavy. At least he's been warned.

I would use the word "chapiadora" to convey this meaning in simple direct language. That said, it's worthwhile to note that simple and direct are not the Colombian way. Anyway, "tu eres una chapiadora" will be understood by anyone in Latin America and most people in Spain, especially those who are 40 and younger and have been exposed to reggaeton.

Very nice to see the distinction between "ser interesado / a" and "estar interesado / a" explained. Differences when using "ser" versus "estar" and how that changes the meaning of the other verb that is used with it are something we don't have in English and lead to a lot of miscommunication for people trying to learn Spanish.

To be fair, you speak Spanish, know the city well, and sound like you're pretty street-wise. The typical USA Or Europe hobbyist would indeed be ill-advised to do what you did.

I know some folks here are terrified by the thought of stepping outside their comfort zone, but as far as I am aware Aranjuez does not have a bad rep, and the Zona Rosa area is really small. I would be very surpised to hear of anyone getting in trouble there, unless they do some real dumb stuff.

I wrote this before Ostee post regarding same was posted. Just be careful to all drinking or wading in water even in swimming pools where the little ones may dump. It's a very common stomach issue especially among country people and poorer, I guess Venezuelans too.
