Indeed, Medellin is seeing a boom. It seems English is now the language in Poblado. The Mansion is full with a wait, as is Poblado Rentals and First American. Even the hammocks and bunk beds in Jake's commune are getting booked.

And it's not just us mongers, every block within a 10 block radius of Parque Lleras has a couple hostels full of robust smelling Europeans.

Where does that leave our hobby? Depends on whether you're looking short or long term. Short term, Medellin's homeless population has begun to migrate towards Poblado to welcome the new arrivals. The scams are getting bolder, and the chicas are probing to see how much they can get away with. I had to carry a rowdy hooker out of my friend's apartment last month because she insisted showing up was enough to be paid for. Refusing to fuck anyone, and simply saying 'Tengo ir, pagame'. We're just at the point of the chica push, and not quite and the gringo push back. The war vet with ptsd that decides he doesn't feel like being scammed tonight, etc.

The whole of the locals' scene is largely intact, as that shit doesn't fly among the paisas. And the centro scene is still a little colorful for most of the gulch dregs, so we've got some time. So while these guys are in a rush to turn Medellin into Costa Rica, us vets are slowly eyeballing Havana and Caracas.

Jake's hammocks have turned into a new high end location with three bedrooms with private baths and a view looking down toward Park Lleras from the balcony Jacuzzi! I'm not ready to throw in the towel on Medellin and for all those reasons Jonesie mentioned its a smart move to go with my Girlfriends 6 hour dates for peace of mind that your not going to get drugged or ripped off! No doubt my place was old and tired but now come experience a whole new level of good time!

Thanks for the advise regarding the taxi vs bus question from airport. (I didn't really mean to start a debate on which was better). I was really inquiring about the bus more for the "safety" factor in that I didn't want to run the risk of getting into a taxi late at night and possibly having the driver take me to an accomplice. Not that I'm parnaoid from my travels but just wanted to be smart. From the responses I've seen below, it seems that the airport taxis (and taxis in general are very safe). I'll post a trip report when I get back.

I was seeing if anyone hits up the gym on a regular basis there? If so, I am looking for high quality equipment at a reasonable price of course. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

That's not correct.

YES: the bus is cheaper. A lot cheaper in relative terms (%13), but I question how relevant is that saving in absolute terms ($18?) How much do you / we plan to spend in a week in Medellin, taking into account flight, hotel, girls, meals, entertainment?

NO: "will get you there in roughly the same amount of time". Not at all: the bus takes you to the street behind Nutibara, the taxi takes you to your hotel anywhere in town. If you arrive to MDE at 10pm, as the guy who asked, arriving with luggage at 11pm behind Nutibara is not suited to everyone. Imagine the scene: gringo with Samsonite bag walking fast seeking his way while all street characters look at him

In conclusion: the bus at night is advisable only to someone who counts the dollars and stays at Nutibara. For all others, taxi and only taxi.

I'm with you, the bus is not for me. I would skip a trip or two to avoid having to save $15 or wait until a bus is ready to leave, or change to a taxi to get to my final destination after coming down from Rionegro. It's all about personal preference.

No need to get a special driver from a list, when 99% of taxi drivers in MDE outstands for service, honesty and kindeness. Pick the first from the street.

Fahrenheit is one of the best disco. I don't know the rate of P4 P there. For sure you'll meet plenty of young talents, but you need to dress fancy and look very very good (men in Medellin are handsome as the girls).
