As far as pricing, were those prices for SW's you were getting up to almost three years ago? I have never gotten quotes from any of the SW's in EL Centro in the 50 to 60 K range for a rato. I have been quoted as low as 15 K up to 35 K by the Colombians within the last three years. Pricing does fluctuate with the SW's as you know, especially when they quote foreigners, thinking that the foreigner might not have a clue as to what the going rates are, and I believe there are a lot of clueless mongers in El Centro. I experience the inflated price quoting from time to time, and can't fault the SW's for trying, but when I call them on it, they don't like it, and I typically don't go with them, unless they can convince me otherwise.

I believe it was a good market for the Venezuelans up until about a year and a half ago, as they would undercut the Colombians and steal their customers away from them. Now the Venezuelans are having to undercut one another, in addition to the Colombians, and because of the sheer numbers of Venezuelans showing up at ground zero, the prices are going down further as you experienced. As I stated in my post, a Venezuelan told me the other day that there were Venezuelans quoting as low as 10-15 K, not the cream of the crop of course, but the Fuglies.

So just imagine what a bonanza it is for guys that will go with anything that moves and pays 15 K for a fuglie, plus 5 K for a room, there at 20 K or about $ 6 USD.

Sounds like more of an opportunity to get trampled. For those who are in Colombia or will be flying into or out of, or anywhere within the Colombia next Thursday, there will be a nationwide strike going on within the Country this day which includes the air traffic controllers, truckers, and many others all across the Country. From the Colombians I have spoken with, it may be a day of violence with predictions of over a million protesters in Bogota, and maybe as many as 100,000 in Medellin. Apparently the main protest location in Medellin will be taking place in "EL Centro" in and around the government buildings. There also may be disruptions at other spots in the City, such as the Metro stations by the protesters. I don't know much more than this and have been told to be very careful around town on this day. Think in terms of what has happened in other South American countries lately, as this day of protest may have some similarities to what has occurred elsewhere.
