Get an ATM card or, if you INSIST on bringing cash, buy colombian pesos from your bank ahead of time. Major USA banks have them for sale and you will get a way better rate than at some intercambio crap at the airport. You will also avoid the infinite lines at a colombian bank, which may or may not have a competitive rate.

I used to use this place many years ago before I was "schooled" They used to not even offer C. O. P's in the drop down menu and I had to call ahead. Now I'm happy to announce that they have added Colombia as a choice. Of course a NO FEE atm card is the way to go. I don't know why this member doesn't just get one. There are so many now and its so easy. Regardless that's his business.

Wilt why would he need to wait in line at the bank and not just go to a casa de cambio? Their in every major mall?

Is there a casa de cambio? (No card for ATM)

Is the taxi's fare fixed or they use a meter? (General Medellin question)

This guy got killed the day after I got here. Apparently he was wearing a gold chain and tried to resist when being robbed at a stoplight. He had been here for 9 months so he should have known better. Leave the gold and expensive watches at home guys. Remember, even if you're a door greeter at Walmart, to the thugs here you're a rich gringo and an easy target. They will smoke your ass muy pronto. I've been here for six months straight now and knock on wood have avoided any serious issues. Be smart about what you do, when you do it and how you do it and live to fuck another day.

Regarding the five people killed in a taxi a while back, iirc the 2 guys were gang members that had just been released from jail, the 3 women were girlfriends of the guys. The gang they belonged to was suspected in a police officers death the year prior. Not too hard to put two and two together.

I made another casa run on Friday, and I thought I'd share my observations with you all.

Sexy Fantasias 2

Despite my best attempts, I wasn't able to leave my place early enough and as a result, I got to El Centro around noon. As usual, I rode the metro to the Prado station and walked from there. My first stop was Sexy Fantasias 2. The papasan there was very nice and produced 6 chicas. All in all, I'd say that they were 5s on average and I wasn't swayed by any of them. I saw the girl Tatiana that Matt Psyche referred to, and I was briefly tempted, especially given her enthusiastic smile and attitude, but I decided to check out other casas. I walked a few blocks over to Masajes de Sexi and found it pretty easily. I got there around 12:15pm and was welcomed by a papasan. I saw about 8 chicas, some better looking than others, and they covered the whole spectrum of shape and size (from the petites to the thick and curvy). I chose a chica named Andrea and paid the papasan 30k for the 1/2 hour. We went into a room and got down to business with the usual: covered BJ, DATY. 69, etc. I had brought my trusted Trojan condom, and she said she preferred to perform the covered BJ with her condom, because she doesn't like the taste of the Trojan condom. New Life

After the great session at Masajes de Sexi, I decided to take a chance on the chica (Nicole) that I previously saw at New Life. On my way there, I saw a girl delivering food at one the casas (it might have been Sexi Sala or Relax / Camilla, I don't remember) , which reminded me that this was probably a bad time to visit casas. Anyway, I continued on my way, and after a stop at my favorite panaderia, I made it to New Life a little after 1pm. Incidentally, the food delivery girl was just leaving the place as I was walking in. As was the case the last time I was there, New Life was packed (I counted at least 7 guys, all locals). I told the mamasan I was looking for Nicole and she called her over. I think she was surprised to see me because I had never even talked to her and she had never seen me before. As we were walking to the room downstairs, I explained that I saw her on a previous visit and wanted to spend time with her, which I think flattered her. Now the room that I had this time wasn't the greatest: twin-size bed, run-down bathroom. She asked me if I wanted to take a shower, so I did and she also took one after I was done (the cold water felt pretty good). There is a Cambio right after the last luggage Xray when you pick up your bags on the way out right on the right hand side. Then you and buy a beer a little further past the exit on the way out.

He also posted elsewhere he has no credit card, so could not join the board to get PMs. Hope he doesn't have to show "proof of sufficient funds" when he gets to Colombia, because if his "sufficient funds" are all cash, he will probably get robbed on Day One.

There are a few of them in the main foray, but I don't know if they'll be open when you arrive, if you have one of the late flights. You might have to change a few hundred dollars at your local international airport before you travel. What kind of traveler goes on trips with no ATM card? Thats the best way to go with consistenly the best rates.

Taxi is a flat rate of 54k to or from the airport.

The rest of the time in city, they use meters. Make sure they turn it on. 95% of the time they do.

This was most likely a personal vendetta or robbery attempt this last April but always try to call a "SECURE" taxi when possible!

I've been in Medellin for two the last two Thanksgivings and it was great. This past year I went to Medellin from 12/26 to 1/1 and until New Years eve it was okay but New Years Eve totally sucked. All the girls are with their families on New Years Eve. We had a party planned at MM and a lot of girls were invited and it was a total flop.

This is generally the case and most all of the Paisitas are going to be home with the family for New Years.

Now many of them can and might break away from the family following midnight but it is not a given by any means.

One needs to have their ducks in a row and there plans in order or otherwise they might find themselves bringing in the new year sin chica!

I haven't read the news article, but I find it unusual that five passengers were murdered, but the taxi driver survived. Why leave an eyewitness to a massacre? If there were 5 adult passengers in a small taxi, they must have been packed like sardines so it would have been hard to miss the taxi driver. If you kill 5 people, killing a 6th person doesn't increase the penalty if you're caught.

Think about it? You call 2 sicarios on 2 motos, attack from both sides with automatic weapons. The taxista covered with blood most likely played dead and the sicarios did not sick around to check. He should hit the Iglesia every and light a candle. I don't think he was in on it because his safety would not be guaranteed with 5 people in a tiny taxi with everybody needing to be killed. It definitely sounds like a hit and these sicarios did their job and the taxista got away with his life. Sounds like it was personal, very personal and especially these days sicarios come cheap!
