If price is your main concern then there's many bargains to be had with the various strip clubs, casas, and streetwalkers in centro. No Spanish speaking skills doesn't mean that you can't navigate or be successful in El Centro, but it's not like the DR where most of the clients are foreigners versus in El Centro where most of the clients are Colombians. Probably best to stick to the Casa's as El Centro can be dangerous and a bit tricky at times, especially with no Spanish speaking skills.

Your friends advice is correct, don't bother going there on the weekends because of the crowds, midweek is best.
