This is overpaying.

Hourly speaking, this is a VERY rough rule of thumb where you can assume a 90% "price acceptance" rate without hassle. Of course you can negotiate to get lower prices. Assuming exchange at 4,000 (it's better, but round numbers make it easier to mentally process.

1. street average - 160,000 COP / $40 USD.

2. apartment average (in call) - 200,000 COP / $50 USD.

3. apartment average (out call) - 280,000 COP / $70 USD.

4. casa average - 100,000 COP /$25 USD in the centro type places, $50 energy, $80 loutron.

5. club average - 300,000 COP / $75 USD (fase2/ isla) - about 1/2 that in the non-fase2 and non-isla places.

6. spa average - 160,000 COP / $40 USD.

7. mansion prices - 200,000 COP-300,00 COP $50-$75.

8. lleras street prices - 200,000 COP / $50 USD.

8. lleras (in a club) prices - 350,000 COP ($90) and up (prices are lower with girls on the street, and higher when they are in the club -- make sure you clarify whether you are talking in dollars or pesos. Girls will say "300" then try to do some dumb shit like say she meant 300 USD).

Again, those are rough, and the exchange rate is better now, so you may see a 20%-ish reduction in the $USD prices if your ATM lets you pull money at the 4,400 range or higher.

Inflation has certainly caused Airbnb and hotel pricing to go up. The thing that gets to me is that its not 5 to 10%, a good number of Airbnb apartments are now priced 20 to 30% higher. This is especially true if its a new project or building. Most of the really good one bedroom or studios are no less than 80 a night, similar ones were 50 a night last year. I think someone mentioned Jan 1 being the time when govt allowed businesses to reprice their offerings. A number of apartments in primero park Laureles, Belen, Manila, Poblado and conquistadores neighborhoods are up at least 15%.

Cash: If you have to exchange cash. You can exchange some at the airport. Like others have said, ATM will be better.

SIM card:

There used to be a place similar to a bookstore or something on the second floor that you can get SIM card in the airport . You have to ask because it may not be on display. You can kill sometime while trying to find it but I don't know if it is still there.

Once you are in the city, if it is still early and you want to kill some time. Go to Botero Plaza to sightseeing. There is a WOM store by the white church Veracruz. They usually have staff that can speak English. You can pay 20 mil for 30 days or whatever days you need for less cost, but you need to have your passport with you. This will register your phone in their system so it won't be locked after 30 days. The official stores like this are more like full service and stores of this provider usually are less busy. The other providers often have longer lines I think because they offer more services

There is a cafe that is part of the museum. You can order something and sit on the patio to people watch if you have time to kill.

There are many neighborhood stores that sell SIM. These are like the airport one, and they may be able to help you setup SIM card and put data in your SIM.

Then there are street vendors. Yo can only buy SIM which is normally 5 mil but you can get it for 3 mil in some places. You need to go to GANA to show your phone number and name of the provider to put data on the phone. I think the least expensive plan is 5 mil. GANA is everywhere so you won't miss it.

There is some truth to this but its not all doom for virgin trippers. I think you will still wet your wicker considering so many online options for delivery (FB, tinder, CC, PP etc) but the quality of experiences are usually better for those that have built their black book over the years.

Not sure if it's airport itself? Or that city's government made ban of airline? As of last month when I hunted for airfare, Mexico's Viva Aerobus had same disclaimer for MEX-MDE "This route is suspended until further notice" but their MEX-BOG was still available. May have to infiltrate via Bogota then take a bus / plane to get to Medellin.

I think you are mixing New Life with Energy (which also has another name which I can't recall at the moment). New Life is in Centro, whereas Energy is in Estadio area. But the point is valid, with proper address one can find these. Taxi drivers can anyway. Most of the time. On foot it is a challenge until you learn the address system, which has been covered on this forum in the past. And if you are looking for business sign or something to tell you that you are at the right place. Don't bother. So just doing the research online here are some answers. First if you have a newer phone it has esim capabilities, I've used it in Mexico. What's nice about it is, there is no changing or a card, you can have it ready to work as soon as you land, it will connect to the local network and there are different packages you can choose from, Also no need to register it with your passport locally. I think the drawback is you can't actually makes calls its only data driven but you can still use WhatsApp, facebook, instagram. Thats what I will be doing when I arrive when I'm out and about. When at my airbnb wifi is king.

I know its been talked about but the best exchange rate is an ATM, If you don't have a card though that picks up the ATM fees then it may add up in the long run. I know my bank can order currency but their exchange rate sucked. You maybe be able to find a currency exchange place (San Francisco is suppose to have one) but you might get charged a fee to do it. ATM the best way to go though.

First time poster, long time reader. As I am concluding five months in Medellin I thought I would share what I have been up to.

About me: mid thirties, work remotely, experienced monger, conversational Spanish skills. Not my first time in Colombia. Previously short trips to Bogota and Cartagena.

I stayed in Poblado close to Provenza and Parque Lleras. I highly recommend Lettera Hotel. I do not recommend Dann Carlton, 23 Hotel. Charlee Hotel or Park 10.

I also stayed at the Intercontinental in Las Palmas which I liked but it's not walking distance to Provenza / Lleras. Great restaurant and grill there. Big pool. Gym. Very nice.

Primary hunting ground was Seeking. Lots of girls available. Negotiated up front and then sent them an Uber and had them dropped off directly at my hotel. Very easy. Very efficient.

I spent a lot of time at Parque Lleras when I first arrived. Highly amusing but gets old after a few weeks. Tons and tons of girls on the weekends. It's certainly a sight to see. I recommend the hookah bar with green lights with a perfect view of the busiest corner in the park. Invite a girl up for a drink and send her back if she's not for you. A hundred more are waiting.
