I think your point is valid even though you and the guy you quoted are not referring to quite the same thing. A key difference is it's not hard to setep away from the table and tell the waiter you want to settle the restaurant bill discreetly. You don't even need to show a menu to your date. There are barrio girls who won't understsand it anyway. To expedite the ordering process I sometimes break down the menu with questions like "do you prefer beef, pork, fish, or salad.
