I arrive in Medellin in a few weeks. I have never been there before and wanted to get a few thoughts from everyone. BTW, my Spanish is limited to last minute flash cards for 30 days. Not the best.

- What is the best way to grab a cab to get to the El Poblado area from the airport without getting ripped? What is the average rate in pesos?. Also, if I am stuck on the street waiting to meet someone to get into the apartment I rented, am I going to be a bulls eye target rolling luggage and a bag around on the street in the afternoon? ((At any given time, there are a few people rolling luggage, or worse, walking around in sandals and with one back pack on their back, and the other on their chest. Afternoon is fine. That neighborhood is fine. Just limit your exposure and get that loot into the apartment, pronto. That is when you are most vulnerable. Have the company know you are coming. Heck , they might be even waiting for you, as they might wait until the last minute to clean out the apartment from the previous tenant.))

- I am staying right around the Carrera 43 A & Calle 10 crossing in a apartment. Is the walk from there to the Parque Lleras area safe at late night / early hours for a solo American?. It seems like such an easy distance, but if I am dressed up, is a cab best?

((It's a safe neighborhood. I've stayed in apartments there.

Be observant. If the streets are crowded with regular people, local people, walking the same streets, and you do not stick out by being dressed differently, wearing jewelry/watches/etc., flashing your cash and expensive cell phone, you will be OK. If you the streets are deserted, take a cab. Sure, it is a short distance, and you will pay the cabbie the minimum even if you did not reach it, but it might be worth it. Heck, sometimes you don't need the exercise and you don't want to walk the hill. Sometimes, that $2 cabfare is what saves you from being victimized.

Don't carry anything you are not willing to give up at gun point. Get a second passport that is limited to travel to only 2-3 of your top mongering destinations. Yes, a 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th passport that is good for a designated country or two are available. Bring two passports, hide one, put the other in the safe. You do NOT want to lose your passport and have to go to the embassy in Bogota to get a replacement.

After a couple of times of drinking or dining in LLeras, you will realize that does not have anything to offer you. The chicas working the park have crazy price expectations, and some of them are age traps. Besides, if they get back to the room and they rip you off, what recourse do you have? FaceBook, casa girls, club girls, even the online ad girls, you have some feedback and a way to keep them honest.))

- Are there any rooms "by the hour" or for $10-20 if I need to make a detour in this area? Seems I may not want to bring everyone back to my apartment for safety. If there are Street girls in the area, I'the assume they have to go somewhere.

The magnetism of Colombia has pulled me back to Medellin. My last visit was late 2017. I have been coming to Medellin for some fifteen years now and have witnessed some major changes. Here are some random ones: Firstly, the city has become very crowded, secondly, there are many American tourists around, I recall in my first trip I saw no Americans for the duration of my entire stay and thirdly the women have gotten really fat. Obesity is going to be a major problem here in the not too distant future. I have noticed increases in girth with every visit. Haha, that's awesome! Yeah, that's based on my experience, but note that all my activities have primarily taken place in Costa Rica over the past decade. Each country is different as is each experience. What I was trying to get across was a general principle. Went to Parque Arvi after that. The cable car ride was pretty cool over the mountains and the views are breathtaking from the car. Nothing much to do once you reach the top. I walked a 45 minutes each way to one of their attractions and it was a very small creek at the end. Was tired like a anything by the time I am back to room by 7 pm.

If you are going to Medellin to really enjoy the best quality women by spending $1000+ on tickets, hotel and food, I would recommend you to visit girls / La Isla club and Loutron (was not able to go there in this trip). Don't waste your time at FaseII, Energy etc.

FYI for future trips or anybody else:

When you get to Parque Arvi walk to the road, go 100 ft left and wait (or get on) the brightly painted old ford Jingle bus, it's free and will take you to the entrance (small fee) to the neat part of the park, nature walk, butterfly garden, open air restaurant, lake, walk around the right side of the lake and it will take you to the rental rowboats, can be a fun day there.

The biggest difference between Fase II and La Isla / The Girls would be Fase is a 1/3 cheaper (190 k Vs 300 k).

You should have plenty of time to make the connection in Bogota.

Taxis from the airport have a fixed rate to Poblado. I think it is 65,000 or 70,000 COP. There should be a sticker in the windshield showing the rate, but confirm before you leave the airport. After you go through customs, you will go through a lot of people asking if you need a taxi. Tell then "No, gracias" and continue walking out to the street unless you want to go to an ATM. If going to an ATM, walk straight from customs and there are ATM's just a short distance on the right. Once you get to the street, there will be official airport taxis there. They are white with blue lettering. If there are no taxis waiting, there will be someone with a clipboard who will summon a taxi. You will be safe waiting at the apartment.

The walk between your apartment and Parque Lleras is safe, but why do you want "dress up"? Dress like the locals.

I've never used a short-term room in that area. There is a place near your apartment. The name is Las Cabaas, CL 14 Cra 43 F-65. From their web site, it is a little expensive, 98 mil for 6 hours for a cabin. Don't pick up two girls near Parque Lleras, only one. Too many things can go bad with two girls you don't know.
