I arrived in Medellin on April 2 and left April 7th. I was just here on March 5th and decided to purchase an apartment here, so I did. I bought an apartment in Barrio Boyaca and I decided to return to Medellin every 4 weeks for 5 days. I found a girlfriend over there so everything works out fine. I send her a nice stipend biweekly and the bills are paid and the Apartment is well maintained. On top of that, I told her what my hobby is so, instead of her crying her eyes out, she goes to Centro with me every day and we rent a room to pick up chics. I allow my girl to pic the chic who she likes and we take them back to the rooms and we do our thing. This way family doesn't have any idea of what me and the girlfriend does while we are away from the house. I filled the cabinets full of food to last at least 2 weeks and off me and the girlfriend went to Centro. We had plenty of contacts from my first trip so all of the girls we saw the first time, if we liked them, we called them again to really bang there brains out. Day one, I picked up a morena from near Vera cruz and made her an offer and took her back to my room in centro and my girl stands in the room and gets pics of every girl that I bang. My girl was like look, why not look though my phone, look at some my cousins and we can go seem them in person and visit my grandmother and we can bring back the ones that you like, my cousins all could use the extra cash. So we hoped on a bus, to the metro train, to the metro cable and up to granny's house to visit and hand pic cousins that I liked. My Lord does it get any better than this. My girl was like, I would rather kiss my cousins than some random working girl in the streets, plus my cousins will thank me for the extra cash. I'm like hell yeah, I'm with the program. So we picked up three of her cousins and headed back to the finca, we swam, grilled and had sex all damn evening and night. On day 5 I decided to relax a little and spend as much time with my girl as possible as well as her immediate family her mom dad brother and little sister. So I stayed at my apartment with the family and had family time like any old family guy would do. I love Colombia, Yes I do, my girl has no kids, and allows me to do as I please as long as I pay the bills. Here's my resolve to paying the bills, I paid so much money for child support when I was paying child support, that I can actually maintain a complete apartment buy groceries and pay someone to assist with keeping the property cleaned an maintained for less than what the child support people were draining me for. I actually told my girl she doesn't have to work and we worked out a plan to pay for her college and keep her in school and off a job as long as we are in a serious relationship. I love this board and Wolf for encouraging me to visit medellin. I have already purchased my ticket for return at the end of the month. Who ever knew a little currency could do so much. I have been looking more toward Envigado and Laureles, but have stayed with what I like because my stays have been limited to 7-10 days, and the Blux fit those needs perfectly. I also like Belen, but have not investigated it much. So far the place I see myself spending 1+ months in is La Floresta. Reasonably safe neighborhood with excellent access to the Metro. I just do not know if I can find an apartment without a fiador. Since I have no intentions of living there year-around, I need a furnished place that is turn-key with all the utilities, cable tv and internet. Unfortunately, most of these are located in the higher strata areas with those type of neighbors that do not appreciate our lifestyle. I am not so sure that it is the partying that gets the neighbors angry, other than weeknights, because Colombians know how to party hard. I think it is more about the rotating door of girls in and out of the building all hours of the day and night that they do not appreciate. From my understanding, a large majority of the Blux units are owned by foreigners, who purchased as rental properties. This ownership percentage does not allow the building to craft all encompassing rules that deny short-term guests in all units. But I have noticed more and more Blux units renting with terms that do not cater to our lifestyle just like bars and resturantes en Lleras have adopted..

You won't need a fiador for a 1 month furnished rental. A fiador is only needed for a long term lease and typically only for unfurnished apartments.

If you get off the metro at Estadio and walk south on 70 there are a couple of agencies that rent furnished apartments. One on each side, just a few blocks south of the station. Don't know what they have to offer.

The problems are as much to do with the short term rentals as with the prepagos, especially the places that cater to gringos. Too many of them lack volume control or a filter or any respect for the people around them. They're in Medellin to party and they don't give a damn what anyone else thinks about them.

If all of them learned basic social behavior, there wouldn't be problems. Greet the neighbors, smile exchange a few kind words and they'll stop cringing every time they see a gringo.

There has been a change in a majority of the short term rental market (air bnb) in Med. Bascially what happened at blux was too many parties and cops being called and domestic violence. The people that live in the building had a meeting and now it became strict.

I think its a game of cat and mouse.

Personally I think Blux is like tooo gringo and you get a girl that has been there 100 x before and is almost like a robot going thru the motions. I get the safety factor but places like laurles and belen even offer a more normal setting. Yes it is still CO but you know how it goes.

I think the crack down will contiune until some people get paid off. It's ok really, let those animals that cause a ruckas do it at hotels and not in nice apartments living with other locals.

After sundown it starts to get sketchier. You can stay in the strip clubs till they close if you want and cab between them although Barra Ejectiva and Maracaibo are about 50 ft apart and Conejitas is about 2 & 1/2 blocks from those 2 but the block around Conejitas get scarier the later it gets.

If you get bored at the mansion at night, the strip clubs are just Casa's with more girls you can sit and drink with and watch on stage. They all have rooms.

I usually grab a taxi and tell them "el centro", "San Juan y Oriental". Then for the day I use the bright colored yellow bricks that divide the traffic has my reference point for the day. After a day or 2 you will figure out how to find a handful of casas from this area. You can also catch a taxi or bus from this area easy.

2) I honestly don't know where else you would take a street walker. Short term hotels are all over the place. Yes it is safe, is it safe for you that is the question. If you have never been to centro, don't speak Spanish, and have all these safety questions I don't see you making this happen this trip.

3) I have never felt any danger in a casa, that would be bad for business. Some casas have a more chill environment than others. I personally couldn't imagine hanging out in new life after my session for another but there are other casas that have little bars or TVs where it is a more laid back atmosphere. But there are little shops and cafes all over the place. You can not walk a block without passing a Pan shop or some place to grab a bit and recover.

4) Most of these casas are on little side roads, I have never seen taxis waiting outside. Again, respect the locals and keep it discreet as possible. But short walk to a main road will find you plenty of taxis.

5) Centro safety, I personally have never felt in danger in centro and I don't speak Spanish and I am not a tough guy. I do walk with a purpose, walk like I know where I am going and I don't pull my cell out in public. If I need to use my phone I step into a farmicia or cafe or something like that. I basically don't do anything to draw extra attention to myself and act like I have a business being there. Now there probably are some clueless guys that should never be there. Is that you? I do not know. I will say as you notice the shops and vendors closing up shop you shouldn't still be there unless you know where you are going or plan on using a taxi. At this hour your options are pretty much only strip clubs or sw anyway.

I avoided el centro my last trip to Medellin, I stayed at the Mansion and only messed with the chicas there. I'll be returning soon and I plan to spend my days with chicas from the casas and nights with the Mansion chicas. I could use some advice on casas in el centro. I plan to take a taxi to El Centro.
