I will be coming to Medellin from Feb 3-9 and then again 14-16 after a brief trip to Cartagena. First of all, many thanks to all that have dropped knowledge on this forum in the past. You guys convinced me to switch my dream mongering trip from Pattaya / BKK to Colombia and it's finally happening. I use Uber often here in Medellin and have been asking my drivers who they will be registered with if as expected Uber cannot be used starting Feb. 1. The replacements are Didi, Beat, and Indriver. It's also worth checking the price quote on Cabify because sometimes it's as cheap as the others. I'm not a fan of Indriver because you need to fuck around guessing what is a good price to bid. I'd rather have them tell me the cost. But the chicas like to use it because they can probably get the best rate at a slow time of the night. Last night a chica got her bid of 13 mil accepted to get back to Bello from Pablado.

Uber has a tendency to not work with local governments when it expands to a city. It's part of their growth-at-all-costs model, which also includes them giving deep discounts at a loss in an effort to take market share from other ride share apps. This is why they're facing the consequences in so many places though.

Other apps appear to be more conservative, including Lyft in the US, so they end up taking less heat.
