In Medellín, I do not think that Colombians in general have any idea of why Gringos visit. Outside of Poblado, there simply aren't that many extranjeros of any stripe.

Of course if you hang around puterias, you will think differently.

I am new to the forum, but I have observed that Tom 33 has a lot of experience in Colombia and is a great source of reliable information about Colombia. However, I am going to offer a contrary opinion in this particular context.

Colombians love to gossip. Colombians especially love to gossip about Gringos.

Furthermore, Americans often give others the benefit of the doubt until they have reason to believe otherwise. Colombians generally take the opposite approach. In Colombia, you are guilty until proven innocent. Colombians will assume the worst about "desconocidos" (Colombian or American or whatever) until they have justification for a greater level of trust. When in Colombia, I would recommend that Americans and Europeans follow the Colombian approach. When in Rome.

Colombians know that most foreign men in Colombia are there for one and only one reason. Colombians know that foreign men travel to Colombia for the women. Think about it. Why else would foreign men travel to Colombia?

That's why I travel to Colombia. Isn't that why we all travel to Colombia? It is common knowledge in Colombia that foreign men travel to Colombia for the women.

And all of this leads to one recommendation for those that aspire to meeting and dating more than just prepagos and prostitutes. If you want to meet and date "normal" women, then you should concoct a legitimate and verifiable pretext for being in Colombia. Some possible examples would include studying Spanish at a Colombian university, researching import-export opportunities in Colombia, investing in Colombian real estate, etc.

Never tell Colombian women that you are "on vacation" in Colombia.

Women (Colombian or American or whatever) prefer men that are not hunting women.

This is Colombia. The fact is, the times are not precise.

My info is a couple of years old, as I no longer go to Loutron. I understand that the last time for sessioning is 10pm so that you're out the door at 11pm or so.

But on a Saturday it's probably a different dynamic. Groups of guys may order chicks to a party, and the girls may want to leave strictly on time because they have something fun to do.

I wouldn't say "no entry after 8pm" is a hard and fast rule. It depends who you are and if they have girls available.

I agree with the other comments that Loutron is a daytime casa. If you come right at closing time on a Saturday, you risk disappointment due to all the girls being occupied by other horny guys.

Heres a story about 2 years ago at ave maria my friend and I were having a conversation with a hostess and it led to why gringos are coming to Medellin and she simply said "they are here for sex"

Another time at trida while I was going to meet a friend alone the hostess asked if I was staying at the "mansion". I tiold her in spnish what, where, and she said never mind.

The word is out. People talk and its kinda apparent when 3 or 4 guys walk into park illares with girls in their teens, dressed like "prepagos" also our own behavior leads to these labels, I have seen many gringos walking around park illares chasing after women litterally this dude took off running, it was funny to see but people where staring. Again normal colombian men can do the same thing but we are the visitors and outsiders.

Okay, here's a question for everyone where I'm sure all have an opinion on:

Loutron is open till 10:30pm. I arrived at 945pm and was allowed in, "open end for leaving". The place looked like it was shutting down. The cute girls in the blue pants were doing the day's cash count ect.

The operation at Lutron is probably 11am to 11pm. I did run into something as I was ordering take out. I was told the girls only go to hotels for delivery, but when I mentioned my name, they said "ok "for an apartment. Perhaps there's been some change in policy or something. The price is 175K for hour treatment.

The best time to go is after 6pm. The line up was full, almost 8-10 girls. They have a Juccuzzi, and they will fill it with two hour notice. I didn't ask about the price. The girls are always top quality ect.

Medellin has definitely gone to the top of the charts in travel and mongering costs, except maybe compared to Cartagena, which I haven't been to for a while.

Cartagena is generally the most expensive city in Colombia. Medellín can be expensive when you go to Loutron and 5-star hotels. There are many hotels in the 100-120K range. There are very many casas in the 40-80K range. There are lots of street girls in the 20-40K range.

Cali is dangerous even for Caleños. Unemployment is high and prices are low. You could get an even better deal in Buenaventura.

My flight from Manizales was into the downtown Olaya Herrera airport, much better than the international airport both in time and taxi fare saved. When you're on the way out make sure the taxi driver knows for sure which one to go to. For my flight to Bogota the guy insisted I must want to go to Rio Negro (gringo=international flight? ). After a several minutes argument he finally got it.

Hotels:

For my first visit 2 years ago I had a thoroughly good time at the Mansion. This time I dropped in and talked to Robert, but sadly both the Mansion and Castillo were booked out for over a week.

So I decided to go with hotels. I decided to go with Leblon Suites. It was about 170, 000 including taxes and a smallish buffet breakfast. Wireless internet and business center computers are available without charge. There's no pool or gym. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and bright, usually with a balcony. Bringing guests apparently incurs an extra charge. But since I pointed out at the front desk that they didn't tell me about this in advance or when I brought a girl they didn't add the charge for me. The hotel is sort of tucked behind a shopping center. If you enter by taxi it's a bit convoluted getting up to the entrance.

Leblon Suites was full for my last two days, so I moved over the San Fernando Plaza. It's a new 5 star place, about a block over from Leblon Suites. Here it was 254, 000 for a night, taxes included. The breakfast buffet here is fairly complete. There's a nice pool and a decent gym. I didn't have any trouble bring girls back here, just walked through the lobby together. I would hate to try it with a street walker though.

These hotel rates were all just from walking up, not in advance and no corporate rate. Thanks to Col Blog for the info on these places.

The weather was absolute crap while I was here. It rained almost every day and for large parts of each day. Luckily the one Saturday night I was here was nice. But the weather really doused the night life and there wasn't much to be seen in the malls either.

I also made the obligatory trip to Loutron, not knowing that they are in a new location since 2 years ago. It's a longer ride but not too far. The selection was quite disappointing, only 5 girls total on a late weekday afternoon. I went ahead and chose Sofia, a tallish blond. But for 170, 000 I question the value for price, especially considering that the same thing is available in Cali for a third or a fourth of the price.

I also tried San Diego Grill and Face Dos. San Diego had absolutely nothing I was interested in. Face Dos had ok quality, but I would have hoped for better given the drink and entry prices. I have been using http://www.sonria.com.co/home.htm for about 4 years now. I used the location on San Martin in Cartagena for 3 years and the one on la 70 in Medellín for the last year. They did two root canals, 3 crowns, a few cavities, and some gum work. I was very pleased with everything.

Masajistas paisas is a difficult place. I went there with Boyd from the mansion. We were let in by the other woman working there who didn't know he was banned.
