As you can see in this invoice, they charged the tax. Maybe they have stopped their scam since I stayed there. OTOH, they are not supposed to charge the IVA tax to tourists, regardless of the form of payment.

When did this developement occur (yes I'm being sarcastic) Not to mention this lady is greatly exaggerating the number of prostitutes in Parque lleras. And showing regular Colombian women who are just out with their friends as though they are all prostitutes. Unless things have changed drastically recently less than 5% of them are.

I would agree. She says most of the girls in Park Lleras look underaged to her. She is a 34 year old woman from Australia without any expertise in judging the age of Latina women. I have walked around that area and most of the girls do not look underaged to me. But it is one thing to just say that, it is another thing to prove it with some proof of the women who are walking around Park Llerras. She says the same thing about the girls hanging out in the main strip in Cartagena, that they look like they are mostly underaged but there is little evidence that this is actually the case. If you are going to say that it is mostly underaged girls hanging out in those two places, you should back it up with some proof.

Don't wear jewelry, don't expose cell phone, carry only enough money that you need at that particular time, don't walk the streets intoxicated, stay out of deserted areas, monitor your drinks closely and you should be fine.

How does Gusto's compare to Hong Kong?

Way different and both have some positives in their own way.

Gustos is fuckin amazing! So many hotties in regular clothes which to me is always more appealing than the HK girls walking around pretty scantly clad. To me it adds more to the imagination and gives that more "normal vibe" which I like. Also, the atmosphere is less of a pressure and more fun since the girls aren't completely hassling you for tips / drinks etc. It adds the element of the thrill of the hunt which is cool. You get to relax more and really scout things out.

HK is a full on brothel and the pressure these days the girls and waiters push can be annoying at times and the cost really adds up.

Just got back from MDE and what ColombiaLover says is right. I paid the same prices and got the same service without having to leave the comfort of my airbnb. Great time great girls. I never got any problems with girls on facebook. I like only young and sexy ladies between 18 till 25. Tourists (travelers who stay 180 days or less in one calendar year) are not supposed to have to pay the VAT tax. The one and only time I stayed at the Mansion, they charged a VAT tax and would not take it off even after I questioned it. They claimed the exemption only applies to new hotels, which is pure BS.

Solid advice, the don't be white thing is maybe harder than it sounds. Now that the Centro floor is closer to 40 k than 30 k the delta between the streets and the casas of Centro is just about gone once you pay the 8 k to 15 k hotel. The only thing that separates the two scenes is convenience. In casas you get to sit in a sheltered space rather than walk or sit in the open air while you make your selections.

Spent three weeks in Medellin, stayed at a hotel near the Veracruz area. What a time! Thought I'd give a few tips to people who want to go into the what can feel sketchier areas:

1. don't be clearly white (like, you can be, but you'll stand out). I can just about pass.

2. don't look around like you're a tourist, imagine you were walking to your house around the corner.

3. hoodies are good, but be prepared to get stopped and searched, happened to me twice.

4. the more exposure you have, the easier and more experienced you become.

5. but this experience can make you complacent. Don't get complacent.

6. if a girl is in a group, pull her away a little.

7. google translate is fine, but watch your phone.

8. keep your wallet ideally in a zipped pocket or hidden.

I've never had anything bad happen to me and I've been doing this for years, but that doesn't mean it won't. So keep your financial downside low, cheap phones, not all your cards, etc.

Had some really hot spinners this time. 40-50 k each, always tipped well if they did well. Enjoy!
