Especially for the fast food, Colombia imports a lot of things, like the french fries. I've seen quite a few McCain's boxes, a major US supplier of fries. Their fries are only about 70% potato with all kinds of added starches.

As they move away from the traditional diet combined with a more sedentary lifestyle, expect the bellies to get bigger.

Yes. Sugars and fibers and starches are all sources of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are not only sugars, but processed sugar is a major source of carbohydrates in the US diet.

I agree the volume of testing informs the infection statistics. Also remember that 80% of confirmed cases have no symptoms. Anyone who has not been tested could be infected at this moment and not be aware.

The Countries that show low infection rates are the ones that do not do much testing. When I was in Thailand February this year there was a lot of people around with that dry hacking cough. Hell I came down with mysterious flu like symptoms day 3 in Bangkok that cleared up in a week. With the millions of Chinese tourists there from China all over the place I'm sure that the Virus was wide spread at that time. I had this hot Asian chick that I order up from Thai Friendly that appeared to have a slight fever and the hacking cough and banged her on a few occasions and never got sick. On top of that I had a flight from Bangkok to Tokyo with a sick coughing China man sitting next to me. I never got sick so I guess I'm immune to it now.

What bums me out is because all of these countries don't test and hide their numbers and in the USA we test and are transparent giving the appearance that we Americans have the virus more than other Countries.

Genetics help, and there is a lot of truth in the level of physical activity factor. For example, in the US you don't see nearly as much obesity on the east and west coast as you do in the midwest and deep south. I think the level of physical activity on the east coast where you have to walk at least a little to get to public transportation is a factor. I think it's also a factor on the west coast where the weather and fitness culture exist in ways they don't in the midwest and deep south. Idaho and the Boise Cascade region is another US area where there is a lot of emphasis on outdoor sports and healthy living.

Back to Colombia and Latin America, I believe portion size is the #1 overall difference that prevents the obesity related health problems we see in the US. All you can eat chains and even casual dining table service restaurants in the US serve "bottomless" soft drinks. Worse still, they offer refills to go. It's madness, who really needs to leave a huge meal and unlimited tableside drink refills with a huge cup of sugary soft drink? Those chain restaurants of the Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse etc variety serve portions that can feed an entire family. You don't see that in Europe or Asia either.

With sugar it's not anywhere close. 126.4 grams in the US compared to 36.4 grams in Colombia.

As a percentage of total dietary intake, Colombia consumes more carbohydrates than the US, 66% to 45%. However, the majority of carbohydrates, including all those starchy foods, in Colombia are from things like rice, beans, potatoes and yuca, along with fresh fruit. In the US most of the carbohydrates are sugars.

Mr. E you should know how to do this. Spies working in different Countries have Passports with multiple identities as you well know. So at this time, having a Passport from a Country with a low COVID rate will allow you to travel within certain countries that have established a safe corridor (no quarantine), which at this time include Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden. Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Lativa, Lithuania, and Israel. I believe when Colombia opens back up they will have a list of which Countries will be allowed back in along with what the requirements are. So an example, somebody coming from a Country having a low COVID rate may require nothing to get into one of the Countries I mentioned, versus somebody from the USA requiring testing and being quarantined for 14 days. The Colombian government threw out a date of September 1 and have no idea at this moment what the exact requirements will be, and within the next three months they will figure it out, or extend the date. Again, unless your a spy with multiple Passports your likely going to be grounded and severely restricted to where you can go without being quarantined.

In regards to Colombia food being saltier and sugarier than US food, that turns out to not be the case.

I think there are too much fried food. Their food scene is not developed like Lima. For example, one can find various chicharron dishes in Lima but it is a very simple dish in Medellin.

I like the El Contro street food, meat ball, roast beef, fish, hueso. They are delicious, fast and cheap, perfect for one person
