I will suggest that you don't do it this way, at least not before you know the owner. It's for your own protection.

I am a host and in around 3 years did very little direct booking. Airbnb does everything in their power to stop it. For example any attempt to communicate phone numbers or contact information will be blocked until you confirm and pay. Then you can communicate freely, but even then certain messages and key words can be blocked within the messaging part of the app.

So I had people that wanted to extend and pay directly. And this works. But it was never something I really wanted to do. It was a favor to the customer as it cut out the fee to Airbnb, but it was not something that really worked for me. It was better to keep everything within the system for my record keeping and taxation purposes.

And yes, for your own protection, and protection of the host as well. But moreso for the guest. If something went wrong with your stay the rules of Airbnb may permit a refund, and if so Airbnb just sends it to you and bills the host. Much harder to deal with something like that if you paid directly.
