I chatted with the Kuboz reception yesterday and they wrote back that an American passport meets the ID requirement. But JJBee4 posted that they would not rent a room to him. Is it the chicas ID that is causing the problem or is it the American passport? Is policy being enforced arbitrarily?

Are you saying that the Motel owners are being asked to only rent rooms to persons with Cedulas. So this means a foreigner with a Passport cannot rent a room, or only if overnight?

Sounds a bit extreme if that is what is happening.

Perhaps JB2 can shed a little more light on the situation as posed by my questions in an earlier post.

2 Love Motels in Laureles specified that every person is required to have a Colombian cedula in order to rent a room from them. They weren't interested in my passport. They were also rather rude by Colombian standards.

My opinion is that this is part of a push back against sex tourism.

C'Mon. Surf, you know what's happening here. There has been political pressure on the Laureles motels for years. There are business and political interests who hate the explosion of motels and bars with backrooms that we like over the past 10 years.
