This tinder fad to me is rediculous and totally DUMB. ITs worse than facebook! At least on FB you can get a sense of someones personality. On Tinder, these chicas have the opportunity to play both sides of the game. They can first be your "date" and then be your hooker. This is the problem with sex in America and you guys are bringing the plague down here! Guys have had their balls cut off in the US when it comes to dating and meeting women and now are coming down to Medellin and acting the same timid way. These women you are meeting are not as well educated as we are but they are more street savy. They are opportunists and have no moral issues when it comes to having a great time on your dollar. She tells me she's frustrated because she has no time to chat with all these guys asking generally the same questions only to realize they are not even in Medellin. Which brings me to Tinder! You get matched when you are in the same area. So as you can see, this gives great power to the chicas. They barely have to do any work or conversing. They simply throw out a price and take the best offer at the moment they are ready to make a date.

I had two girls recently. School teachers and in universiety. Real jobs etc. Took them out the dinner. Do stuff! Go out. Look for events, explore other parts of the city during the day, buy stuff, ask taxi drivers, go shopping and ask for help, ask strangers to help you practice your Spanish, go to meet-ups, work spaces, hook up with someone who knows the scene and is willing to show you around. Even facebook. However, the facebook scene is pretty pro too. You got to dig a little to get the attention of some regular girls.

Super true. Two things I've observed on my two trips to CO thus far, the girls on streets, while cheaper, are no less attractive than the girls on Photoprepagos or Mileroticos. And you don't even have to deal with fake pics when you see them in person. My Spanish is like level 1 but the street girls in Bogota, the FB girlsin Med, and Mansion girls are quite patient with you whipping out the translator. Sure you might not agree to a price, but just move on. I find it that even when they reject you, they give you a "no amor" than the "fuck off" you might get in the States. Just be nice, offer reasonable rates and they'll come eventually.

In Colombia, you cannot get a credit card advance from a bank. I tried 2 banks and was told the same thing. It was a government thing.

I tried the same thing in Colombia back in March. I waited in line for about 10 minutes inside a Bancolombia, and tried to take out a cash advance with a bank teller for $1,000. I was politely told it's not allowed at all banks in Colombia. You have to use the ATM's.

Also, using my debit card is not an option as Chase Bank, last I checked, has a block on all transactions in Colombia. I considered buying Colombian pesos from Chase prior to my trip, but the exchange rate was around 2700 pesos / or about 5-7% worse than when what I'm getting from the ATM's.

The option of bringing dollars & exchanging in Colombia for pesos is a no-go given their rates are around 2700 (last I checked). Not to mention the "giving blood" process that that is.

The $10 fee to my credit card company could be worse. I have other credit cards that charge more. As for the higher interest rate on the cash-advance balances, I don't pay that as I monitor my credit card balances, and post full-payments the same day the cash advance posts.

I guess if I decide to go to Colombia regularly I will get a Schwab account, or get a better bank for debit cards in Colombia.

I think the $10 fee is from his bank, not from the Colombian bank. I've never figured out why people take an advance on a credit card, unless they are in an emergency situation and that is their only option. Not only does he get hit with the $10 fee, he also has to pay interest on that money until he repays it.

Fees cost me a minor fortune on my last trip. I idiotically lost my bank ATM card. I left it in a ATM machine. My backup was American Express and a Visa credit card. In Colombia, you cannot get a credit card advance from a bank. I tried 2 banks and was told the same thing. It was a government thing. I was fortunate that my hotel agreed to advance me money from my Amex card though they charged a 5% fee. They said that was break even for them and I have no reason not to believe it. But it wasn't enough. I had no alternative, or none that I knew of, but to use my Visa in the ATM machines. It was over $10 per transaction. Roughly $10 from my credit card company and then the ATM fee. Lesson learned. I don't think I will ever leave my card in a machine again.

Had a brief respite from work and this trip was a toss up between Medellin & San Jose. I was last in SJO about 8 years ago and was tempted to take a look again. Finally decided on MDE and below is a short report of my 7th trip.

I have always stayed in Poblado during my previous trips and was ready for a change. During this trip I stayed in Laurales at the San Peter based on recommendations in this thread. The location is fantastic with ATMs, supermarkets and pharmacies located in the vicinity. Great dining options in the neighborhood too. Local style, Lebanese, Italian, Indian, Vegan, fruit salad & coffee shops. Laurales is a great neighborhood and I enjoyed walking around during the Feria de Flores days. The front desk staff at San Peter are great and the Superior rooms are great. No chica fees and the views from the top floors are lovely.

I have stayed at the Mansion before, the last time being about 3 years ago. I have built a decent FB amiga list over the past few years and, as usual, was planning to spend all my time with my FB cuties.
