You are right it is not fool proof. It is a tool that maybe useful in some occasions. The public web site will show only name and cedula number. That is enough to see if the cedula exists before meeting the girl. Many of them don't try to hide and will have no cedula and cedula number.

Looks like I am an outlier on this one. I have been meeting chicks around the world online for the last 25 years and this is the type of adventure and experience that I live for. I have tons of these great stories and I have not been killed yet. (I remember going to a funeral in bum fuck Valle del Cauca (over 2 hours from Cali on the bus) with some chick whose cousin and friends got mass murdered in some drug trafficking shit.) You will not remember the third chick that you fucked in Colombia but you are going to remember this chick forever and probably remain friends with her for a long time.

I am planning my first trip to Columbia and it seems Medellin is the place to visit first.

It is sound advice to take a girl the first time to a short time hotel. I would not disagree with that. But I feel that if you stay in a hotel or Airbnb with security, it should be fine. I like being in my hotel room because it is comfortable and I have already paid for it. This is my fourth trip and I have always taking the girls back to my hotel room. So far, there have been no problems and nothing is missing from my room. It is true that it is more risky than taking her to a short-term hotel but there are a lot of benefits to having sex in your room. It's just a more relaxing environment for you. I also have snacks and drinks for the girls in my hotel room. But I am not a big fan of drinking with the girls. There is no reason to have an open bottle or drink in your glass laying around where there is the possibility the girl can put something in your drink when you are not looking or in the bathroom. I just drink from a bottle of water from the refrigerator where I have several bottles of water on the shelf.

I also like to screen out girls on Facebook. With a girls postings on Facebook, you can get a general idea of the type of girl she is. I'm usually suspicious of a Facebook profile set up exclusively for business.

I would agree that the safest path is seeing girls at the casas. No way that the girls are robbing or drugging you at the casas because they have a reputation to protect. Hotel M and taking girls from their bar is also a safe bet because hotel M knows who the girls are at the bar.

There are ways to stay safe be in Medellin and decrease the probability of being drugged and robbed. You just have to be aware of your surroundings and not take excessive risks.

I would also warn guys about underaged girls. They are on the streets and on line. The possibility of being in prison and the consequences always makes me very paranoid about making sure that the girl can prove that she is 18. That is one of the advantages of staying in the hotel that checks ID. The hotel also does not want underaged girls in the hotel so they will reject identification cards that look fake. You may be a bit sad but it is better for you that you are not seeing that girl. If you were to take that girl to a short-term hotel, they will not check her identification card.

Stay safe and have fun. I'm still in Medellin now and so far things are going well without any problems. I'd like to try to keep it that way.

I did meet a few guys from ISG and everyone seems cool. I have not met any of the flamers on ISG.

From what I understand the police can look up cedula numbers with their little hand held devices that look like cellphones and they often do just that when they stop people in public and ask them for their numero de cedula. I

The police do have hand held devices as you mention, typically green, and about mid-size between a small tablet and a cell phone as you describe. I've seen the Police in and around the Poblado Metro station and along Calle 10 at times. There will always be two policemen that are armed. I've watched on several occasions the Police ask people for their Cedula number, they enter it, and if nothing pops up, they are immediately on their way.

However, if a Colombian has some type of an infraction, warrant, or whatever on their record than I suppose they might be detained and / or arrested, hence two policemen.

My advice to guys here is to always carry a photo copy of your Passport page and date of entry stamp with you at all times and leave your Passport in your safe where your staying.

If you get stopped and they ask where your passport is, tell them it's in your safety deposit box, "caja de seguridad" and upon showing them copies of the documents mentioned they will send you on your way. Once one asked, I told them my Passport was in my security box if they wanted to go with me I would gladly show it to them and they laughed, were very polite and professional and just smiled and said have a nice day upon showing them the photocopies.

I am an older white guy and I speak from experience. I have been invited to meet the family and remain friends with them. Doubtful it was love. Most likely an opportunity to have an older benefactor or something.

Also met the friends and their families and they all lived in very poor neighborhoods that you'the never see a Gringo in and nobody ever bothered me and I was never scared.

Don't seek yourself short my friend. People respond to genuine personalities and my studying Spanish and Latin American Affairs with a degree in both at the age of 60 helped I'm sure.

Conceptually I still struggle in a good way with the fact that the acceptance of age is very different here than in the USA.

I have seen this in other countries. Sometimes it applies to you and sometimes it does not but they will try to get you to pay it. Pay it for a night or two and then renegotiate that tax (what ever it is).

It's a tax levied on Colombians and Colombian residents called IVA of 19%. Foreign visitors on a tourist Visa are exempt from having to pay this upon showing them their Passport and entry stamp upon checking in. This is something that needs to be addressed upon checking in, not afterwards.
