The scam is in that they charge $80 a night for $20, two star rooms while calling in over priced girls in the 5 to 7 range, while the same you can easily find on your own with Google Translate and very little effort. Then again if their online disclosure says you lose a two night deposit, with no mention of forfeiting payment for your entire stay then you have yet another scam going. For that one deal with your CC company, disputing any charges over the two night deposit.

P.S. Yea I know some mongers need to be coddled, have their hands held, thus the Mansion. If someone hasn't grown a pair by age 50 they likely never will, thus a sad circumstance all the way around.

I wouldn't expect that they are scamming you. I would check the refund conditions. It seems likely they require payment in full if you cancel within 72 hours of your stay.

I had the same issue with an apartment I rented last trip. I needed to cancel 2 hotel rooms and 1 apartment. The first hotel room cancellation was no problem. The second one Booking said I would have to pay 100%, but I hadn't paid anything and heard nothing from the hotel. The apartment I had paid half up front and I expected I would lose that. However, on the day when I was supposed to check in, they messaged me to arrange pickup of the keys and payment of the remainder.

That was the deciding factor to go ahead with my trip, starting 3 days late. Had a girl I know and trust take the money over and get the keys and I got my original flight moved to a new day.

My suggestion, instead of jumping on the scam bus, is to talk to them and explain your situation. They might let it slide if they believe you're going to stay in the future. Worst case, you're in the same situation you're in right now.

If they require payment in full, when cancelling within 72 hours, there's a reason for it. They are usually booked full at least 2 weeks out. Empty rooms generate no revenue. Trying to find someone, when most of their customers know to book weeks in advance is difficult. For that type of establishment cancellation rate is pretty high.

The reason I say it's pretty high is because they attract 2 types of customers, the repeat customers and the new mongers, or new to Colombia mongers. And the new guys often get cold feet, or get talked out of the trip.

What Fun Luvr said about being double charged with taxes, that would be a scam. Unless you stay beyond 90 days, there's no tax for foreigners. That's one reason why they need to keep a copy of your passport, so they don't have to pay the tax.

Today I stayed 4 hours and Time runs really fast.

It happened many years ago to a coworker. What I remember was that the fine was for each item, multiply the number of items to calculate the total fine.

Unfortunately what you have observed is what I and others have seen happening in Centro over the past several months. It's disheartening for sure, especially for the guys who have been coming to Medellin for years and seeing the changes taking place.

However as far as SW's in Centro rejecting offers that are less than 50 K lower than FB girls, well I'm grappling with that one.

I have no experience with Fayboo girls, but have read the going range is in the neighborhood of 150 K-200 K maybe more. So I'm going to have to assume that your asking the girls who have rejected your offers to spend a couple of hours with you, versus no more than an hour?

Also, even with the onslaught of the foreigners, the locals which are the primary client base for the SW's in Centro, aren't going to be paying what the foreigners are paying.

What I have noticed, and have posted about before, is what I call the SW's who I call "gringo hunters", those who specifically look for gringos / foreigners who will pay more. I suspect these have to be some of the girls you have encountered.

Sounds like your a Fayboo guy, which many guys here are, and I can see where your coming from not wanting to mess with the Centro SW's over 50 K.

You guys missed the key part. He was encountering girls in El Centro who wanted 50 k less than Facebook girls to come to his apartment, which sounds about right to me. Depending on the time of day and where he's staying, the girl could spend an hour or more just getting there and back, plus the cost of a taxi back.

When you break it down to the time you actually spend alone with the girls, there's not a big difference in price between Facebook and El Centro. It's mostly a matter of personal preference.

Today I stayed about 3 hours in centro. I have done a few rounds and drank some beer.

It was raining in between and I could find only one who was meeting my criteria and Budget.

Perhaps what some members may not be aware of is that you have to be basically squeaky clean to get Global Entry. I have had it for several years, however I initially never applied for it because I had SENTRI, and those with SENTRI are automatically given Global Entry as qualifying for it is more stringent than Global Entry.

The Global Entry rules condition membership on maintaining full compliance with immigration and customs regulations. This includes counterfeit goods like watches and handbags that some guys like to bring providers. Other things that can get your Global Entry revoked are flouting tobacco and liquor quantity rules or providing inconsistent information to customs and border patrol personnel.

You are allowed counterfeit items as a personal novelty, but you are not allowed to bring in like 10 of the same thing. Knowledge, I am not so sure about this one. I have walked across the border and bought counterfeit handbags and declared them when I re-entered the country. The amount I bought was under the dollar limit for goods and there was no issue. Quite frankly, this was a Mexican border town and if Americans could not bring back these fake handbags into the USA, they would not be selling them, and the vendors were selling them in droves.

It's actually illegal, I recall seeing an episode on Border Security, a woman tried to bring in suitcases of counterfeit goods, the border agent allowed her to keep 1, but confiscated the rest.

Your correct, I missed this as well as he wanted to take them to his apartment, versus at a love motel and this now makes perfect sense.

Taking a SW out of El Centro is kinda like taking a fish out of water.

It's typically not something they have done before, and when you factor in the time involved, and their fear of going with a stranger, it makes more sense as to the pricing he was quoted, and my conjecture that it was for a few hours of time versus a rato was correct, albeit not in Centro.
