Posts: 326The biggest mistake I made in Medellin was not sticking to top shelf chimba. At those prices, it's not about quantity, it's about quality. My bad.

This is a long overdue report. I was in Med. For 5 days in Feb, this was my first visit there, although I have been to Cartagena 7-8 times prior. A little about me, as these are just my observations. I am a very young 53, and am fortunate to be able to leave work in 2-3 years. I have always thought of living outside of the states for 3-5 months of the year after that. I have travelled a fair amount thru South America. I have always thoroughly enjoyed my time in Col, although realizing I had only seen 1 city / a very small portion / sample size. So this trip was to see a different city, and also realizing that if I were to stay for an extended time, I would want 1. A bigger city / more to do / see, and 2. A more temperate climate then Cart.
I opted to stay at the Medellin plaza #2 (#1 was fully booked) due the convenience for the 1st time and my (very) limited Spanish. I have to recommend them, as I believe they offer an excellent service, which has been described here multiple times. They actually almost make it too easy to just hang out and enjoy the girls that rotate thru. I will compare and contrast the 2 cities, again based on my opinion. And I realize we can differ. The 1st thing you will realize is how much bigger / varied Medellin is. When I'm in Cart. I always take an apt. in Bocagrande, and after mult visits I feel very comfortable moving about the city (most common areas) on my own or with friends. This is not the case in Med, which is so much bigger, that it can be quite overwhelming. Also, while in cart. You will see the occasional gringo, ok more then just a few, but I rarely interact w / them, almost all my interactions are with Colombians, now when staying at the Mansion, you are surrounded by other gringos. And I met some very nice guys, but It certainly isn't what I'm used to in Colombia (yes, I did expect it though, I understood the set up). Of course I love the girls there, they had some very beautiful ones pass thru. I also enjoy the party scene that Colombia has to offer, and while I get how some guys like to rack up huge of girls, almost like on a mission, I just as much enjoy the party vibe w / 1-2 of them. This is where, hanging out at the Mansion it is almost too easy, you meet a girl that likes to have fun, and it's easy to do all that you want without ever leaving the premises. This leads to many late nights and a lack of energy / drive to get out and explore the city. I realize that was my fault (lack of self control / laziness) on my part, and I fully accept the blame for that. Also I felt it was much easier to get by on very limited Spanish in Cart. Anyways, I didn't get to see nearly as many regular sight seeing things (or restaurants / regular bars, clubs) as I had wanted to (or do in Cart) , but again that was on me. I will definitely visit again, although I might opt for the apt route just to force myself to be out and about, as I have a number of facebook contacts that could serve as a starting point, and I realize my Spanish needs to improve, although I do plan on taking concentrated lessons / courses. That part may have to wait until the work situation clears up. I will highly recommend the casas, while going in I didn't think that would be my thing, as I'm not usually the quickie type, but while most of the girls I wouldn't touch, you would every once in a while come across a stunner. And at 17$ for 30 min, that can't be beat. More observations to come, but this is enough for now.

Not only prostitutes but also gangs are religious. Churches are telling them that God will forgive whatever they did if they believe in God (and implicitly, donate some money). Financial contribution by the gangs to Church is very large.

*Side note the constant arguing and bickering between some of the members makes for very interesting read!

Posts: 500Just to echo what others have said, Thursday to Sunday on Semana Santa will be unusually calm. Most establishments will be closed, many girls will be with their families. You should square away a date and a plan B for these days on your own, get some of your regulars or at least girls that you know.

By the way. I will work on a list of girls that need a little push and they asked me as a favor. Just give me chance. One consideration is that most of them are in the University so will be sometimes a real pain in the ass to get in touch with them. Ones again only clean dudes with out extra freaky taste.

I was there on the Thursday and Friday of Semana Santa, and did the people watch thing.
El Centro was DEAD on both those days. So dead it was much more scary than usual at night.
The good news is, it gets much better on Saturday.
Have fun!

Thursday is pretty dead and Friday is completely dead, you better set some dates up beforehand. It is a very calm week by Medellin standards. Enjoy the trip.
