The Metropolitan Cathedral of Medellin at Parque de Bolivar (Catedral Metropolitana de Medellin) is also worth a look, it is the largest Roman Catholic church in Medellin, built in a Romanesque style with some Byzantine details. The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was built over a period of over 50 years from 1875 to the late 1920's.

The church was built using solid brick construction with about 1,120,000 adobe bricks, which makes it one of the largest baked clay structures in the world. The Cathedral organ was manufactured in Germany by the organ maker Walcker Orgelbau of Ludwigsburg, Baden-Wrttemberg in 1932 and cost 25,000 dollars, a lot of $ in those days.

It has a working original Otis elevator between the walls from 1933. The black & white pic is from 1922 and shows how much the city has grown.
