Posts: 4026Try Didi and the Coopebombas apps. I like Didi better. Both let you know the lead time so you can plan ahead.

Posts: 4026I did not see this coming. Botero Plaza is nearly back to normal. The only difference now is there are no tourists. The girls are back. The benches are full of people chatting. Traffic is also picking up. I notice many more personal cars than last week. It is still mostly taxis and motorcycles. Two people on a motorcycle is prohibited but I saw a few of those today, one that got stopped by the police. Even fewer people are wearing masks. In fact, I passed a butcher shop where the butcher was cutting meat with no mask. He was at least wearing gloves.
Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases is somewhere around 900 and deaths are still 10. There are 10 confirmed recoveries. If today is any indication, just like the pre lockdown one day pause that wasn't supposed to happen, I think it will be hard to enforce a lockdown past April 13. I really hope it doesn't cause a spike in infections.

Posts: 3801The Meaning Of Ground Zero Explained- A Sad Transformation
This photo was taken on Saturday at the intersection of Calle 52 & Calle 53, also known as "Ground Zero", and also referred to at times as "Little Caracas".
The definitions of ground zero include either, 1) A starting base or center of activity, or 2) The point directly below where a nuclear explosion occurs.
Sadly we have now gone from definition one, the "mecca" for El Centro street walkers, too definition two, a place devoid of anyone.
It's incredibly depressing to see this. Hopefully, and very soon, will have our "mecca" back.

Posts: 4026You hit the nail on the head. There is a certain kind of hobbyist who is otherwise responsible and sensible but suspends reality when it comes to mongering. That is the mentality that leads to all kinds of problems. Ending up as a crime victim, ending up as convicted sex criminal, etc.

Here's two perspectives:
One night, two webcam models I was working with, sisters, wanted to meet for drinks, after their shows. I had them come to Jenson's, off Calle 10 near Parque Lleras.
We sat together on a couch, with me in the middle, drinking micheladas and talking. Eventually a gringo spotted us, did the math and figured I wouldn't mind letting him have one of the girls. He put on his best moves and worked at pulling one away from me. It was funny. One girl would be showing lots of interest, while the other was making fun of the guy to me. Then they'd switch.
When he found out they were webcam models, he played his ace. He not only knew a top webcam model, he worked for her and he could really help them out. They oohed and aahed over him and he got a smug look. He figured he had just pulled them both from me.
What he didn't realize was that model was my neighbor and a friend. He may have met her, but he wasn't a friend and didn't work with her Both girls had met her. If they wanted her help all they had to do was ask. They got him all excited, then completely ignored him and sat there laughing with me. He had mistakenly assumed they must be prepagos.
Had a Facebook girl meet me down in El Centro, at the Prado station. The plan was to go up to Parque Arvi, have lunch, walk around a bit and then head off for a nice long session. Even though she lived in the Santo Domingo neighborhood, she had never been up to Arvi.
When we got in the Metrocable to Arvi, we were in with a 40 something Colombian man, his wife and maybe 10 year old son. The family chatted with us all the way to the top. He was a birdwatcher and was excited, talking about all the birds he hoped to see. When they found out I spoke English, they wanted their son to practice his English with me. To them, we were just 2 normal people, not a hooker and client.

1. mongering is normal.
2. the whole country is full of hookers.
3. the citizens are indifferent to it or even welcoming if it.

Posts: 4026That is exactly right. I first came to Colombia for work reasons and I've had years of professional interaction with Colombians. Although they participate it is frowned upon and a source of national shame. There is an active and years long campaign against sex tourism and the sex trade in general. One of my favorite Provenza restaurants has a "say no to sex tourism" sign prominently displayed.
Another way to look at it is the girls at the strip clubs are in it for the long run. They are committed and full of silicone as proof. You see much less of that at casas, especially the mid to low end (Centro) casas.
