However, there's a difference between not blending in and standing out. Not much hope of ever blending in, but I also don't attract negative attention. I'm quiet, I stare less than the typical Colombian man, and I give a polite "Buenas" if someone greets or smiles at me in passing. I also save my cargo shorts for Ciclovia.

After the arrest of Jake in El Centro, the police are keeping eyes on gringos in the area and told some gringos to leave the area immediately. Though gringo guys do not know, they really stand out at Botero / Veracruz area.

If I were doing nothing wrong and the police told me that I have to go elsewhere, I'd calmly just say "por que tengo que irme?, estoy bien aqui" (why do I have to leave, I'm good here). Now if they were nice and gave me a reasonable explanation, or were more persistent or got aggressive, obviously I'd leave, I'm not risking a beating or arrest over some stupid shit. But I'm not going to be run off like a little byatch because some cop doesn't think I should be there or whatever.

Not sure what point you are attempting to make with this, but it has NOTHING to do with gringos having encounters with police in Centro. But the reasons are listed a few pages back. Mostly lack of competition and steady stream of non-Spanish speaking gringos keeps them in business.

I heard and witnessed that police stopped, questioned, and got rid of some gringos there last year and this year. A few times, I saw the police took gringos to somewhere else, may be their car, I am not sure. I hope they were not arrested. Needless to say these officers are on the local gang's pay roll. They do not do anything for you. They work for the thugs there. Same for the judges. There are some reasons why Mansion is packed all the time. Stay out of trouble and go safe. A diamond in the rough is not a worthy benefit relative to a potential detrimental cost. Certainly there are some reports when some guys were there and had no problem. But when gringos had trouble, they do not report their embarrassment. As for casas in Centro, no problem.

Offer 150 k pesos plus one-way taxi. Don't go over 200 k. If you can agree on a price, then discuss details. I have one long time FB friend who I never had the opportunity to schedule a time with until recently. She told me 300 k plus taxi. I gave her a two-word response "No, gracias". She is still my FB friend, and is very pretty in her photos, but not 300 k pretty.

Offer 150 k for a session. Forget talking about time, there's no clock punching unless you go to an MP. Any indy who quotes by the hour will usually rush you. Remember, to many of them, 1 hour = 1 shot. If you shoot too early, you may get 20 minutes. If you want to negotiate specifics, lets say 2 shots, and up to 2 hours but probably 1. 5 or so, offer 200 k. 150 k for 1, 200 for 2. Take it or leave it, plenty of fish in that sea. They are everywhere.

300 k is her gauging how new you are, or how dumb. LOL Reply 150 k plus taxi to come to me. Taxi is max 10-20 k. Tell her to take Uber, it's cheaper. And she can send you a screenshot of the cost. One did it to me that last trip, without asking which was cool.

My opinion of the police is very different. I have been to Centro many times, alone, and have never had a problem with the police. They have always been friendly and helpful. I have asked them for directions, and sometimes they walked with me to the place I was looking for.

I don't know what it is, but some people have a tendency to get into trouble. There is a poster on another forum who usually goes to Costa Rica. He has had encounters with the police in San Jose. I think it was his first trip to Medellin, and he was arrested. I have seen gringos in Medellin who I think should have been arrested. When they are disrespectful to the local people and act as if they are better because they may have more money than the locals, they should be dealt with. Maybe relieving them of some of that money would be helpful.

I have never had any negative encounters in Colombia or Costa Rica over more than 30 trips. But I'm respectful, don't walk around drunk or loud, or act like a typical douschebag gringo.

Thank you for all of your reports, they have been very helpful. I have been to FKKS which were amazing and Tijuana which was a drag. I want to try Colombia and Brazil out so I was considering arriving in Bogota Friday Nov 17 for 3 days leaving Monday Nov 20 to Medellin for 3 days, then to Rio Nov 23 Thursday for 6 days and my final stop Sao Paulo for 6 days. I've been told Rio is best during the week and they have FKK style clubs. I am still a little confused on what to expect in Colombia. It sounds like they have FKK style clubs but smaller or I would have to find a prepaid. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I decided to do this trip after visiting some local strip clubs that have had an influx of Cubans. So sexy compared to the other girls. Should I try and split the days more equally? Less days at Sao Paulo?

Stay at hotel M (The Mansion) for your first time. You are guaranteed to make friends who will help you out, the staff is friendly, and the owners are very helpful.

I've had the same experience as you with the police.

One time I got stopped when they were doing ID checks, showed them my Passport card, and it easily satisfied them.

They were curious about the USA, etc, and we got to talking, made new friends.

Funny, they referred to the girls as, "chicas malas, pero buenas", jeje.
They just advised to watch out for the bad guys around, that rob.

Same here with police. I walk by them daily, although usually not in El Centro, and the most I get is a smile and a nod. The closest encounter was coming back from Centro late one night and the cops stopped our taxi. They glanced in the back seat at me and a buddy and never said a word, just waved us on.

I'm going to rely on my experiences rather than what someone heard.

Ouch, she's trying to jack you IMO, I have a date coming up, someone I have seen before, off SeekingArrangements, asked her to bring a friend for a friend, told her 200 k for a few hours (we are doing dinner, drinks / dancing, then Love hotel w / Jacuzzi) or 300 k for TLN (all night) and she said fine, NP.
