Posts: 4027No one was kicking anyone out of the coffee shop. Protesting merchants were imploring the Pergamino store to shut its doors and join the protest.

Posts: 4027Full disclosure, I did not watch the youtube video mentioned. I actively avoid that sort of content because I find it neither informative nor entertaining. History shows online promotion helps no one other than the content creator using people's images to earn money based on clicks they are able to attract. It's one of several reasons I avoid places where they congregate. I am already spending more time than I want talking about this stuff with everyone who knows I live in Colombia. The last thing any of us needs is to have to explain why you appear in a video (background or foreground) with some guy talking about what goes on in Parque Lleras. ChinoSexo, I agree that it's a good idea to keep a low profile. I don't think it should take global media attention to remind us of that.

The populace are upset with the sex tourism industry in a big way. And the politicians are listening. And acting. So the public sees male tourists to Colombia as depraved predators and politicians are doing something about it. A 6 month emergency order making prostitution illegal in certain areas is their response.
But there are others, especially in the affected areas, who see their businesses being destroyed if the tourists (non mongers as well as mongers) are chased away. Hence the protest by businesses. While this law does not target tourists at all really, it is in response to the perceptions around sex tourism, and so don't expect to be popular.

Posts: 4027I agree with everything you said about Lleras and the cleanup efforts. The video in question however has been widely misrepresented. What really happened had nothing to do with the tourists. The protesting merchants were gesturing to the shop owners to shut their doors and join the protest March. Pergamino is not of course independently owned so it wasn't a choice the employees at the location could make.
