Goddamn, this one came up in my regular news feed. I'm really starting to think going back to Colombia would be an irrational roll of the dice for me, even though nothing unsafe happened. At least not yet. Going there instead of a safer Latin American country is probably thinking with the little head, as well as penny-wise but pound-foolish. If 50 guys drugged and robbed and the number of foreign mongering visitors is 10,000 per month out of the 500,000 total visitors per month, then you are diluting the numbers by including tourist that are not bringing a strange chick to their room or not outside walking alone and therefore not being drugged and robbed.

Avianca does check it as part of issuing their paper ticket, but they may be more trusting allowing verbal confirmation. But as of my last flight with them out of Orlando they were asking / inquiring.

What if you had a digital boarding pass on your phone and we're only traveling with a carry-on, then you wouldn't even go to the Avianca customer counter you would go straight thru TSA and onto your gate, then would they ask for your checkmig in that scenario or not?

If this guy would have rented a hotel where the girls has to giver her ID, he probably would be alive. I said in many forums, air bnb and apartments increase your risk. A hotel has security in the front. Unless you sneak a girl in, you shouldn't have problems. Also how did they get this guys family members contact info. He gave her his real number? Google voice people.

Either that or you can ask the girl to send you a photo of her cedula before meeting up or upon meeting up in a public place. You just got to tell her upfront that "it's for your security and if something bad happens to you while you're with her, she will be held responsible" or something along those lines. Also, letting her know that your hotel has her identification gives you leverage in worst case scenario. Now, if you mention that to her upfront and she refuses to give you her identification for whatever BS excuse that she will make up then it only means she is plotting something bad to you and you just moved on to the next one.

If she's just someone trying to make extra cash, giving her identification shouldn't be a problem right away. You can never let your guard down in Medellin especially nowadays and always got to think with the big head.

Whatever contract she signed at 18, isn't probably legal and her naivety / ignorance seems to be getting exploited with some made up rules and arbitrary incurred 'debts'. Looks like an organised enterprise. Protective of her breasts sicne it's their 'property' and investment and one of this girl' greatest assets. The nice working clothes are provided to her by them. Accommodation probably too I guess, since she said she pays 100 mil for a month.

I'm coming and going every month on American Airlines and they also require proof that CheckMig has been successfully completed. If I recall correctly I think someone said that Colombia's national airline, Avianca, knows that it's not required and they don't need proof. But I can verify AA requires it every time.

Yes it's nice to have some raw numbers on the crime against tourists but they should be compared to the staggering increase of foreign tourists now visiting. Years ago I felt like the I was one of a few dozen people in the airport on any given day. Now it's always filled with hundreds or maybe even a couple thousand travelers. On a "per capita" basis I'd guess that crime is actually at a lower level than years ago. But first time visitors and naive vacationers (horny inexperienced guys) have no idea the what they are getting into here.

I don't think there has been a staggering increase in foreign visitors. Perhaps someone has government stats though. I would be surprised if it is above 2019 levels again. Perhaps an increase in monger types of visitors, but even that is not clear to me. I go by hotels in Poblado area, etc. And they had a lot lower occupancy when I was there recently than they did in 2019.

There might be an argument to be made that the crime rate is steady or even lower if measured by crime per thousand visitors. As noted there has been a huge increase in visitors to Colombia. If the number of visitors has gone up 10 x in 5 years But the amount of crime against tourists has gone up 5 x, that is actually a decrease in crime per 1,000 visitors. You would expect more incidents against Taurus given the huge increase in tourists visiting so it's not surprising.

Now, that is not to say the number of tourists being drugged and robbed is not high compared to the numbers in other mongering countries but you need to take a perspective on this. Even if it is, let's say, 50 guys drugged and robbed this year, the number of foreign visitors per month is 500 k or about 6 million visitors each year. So the odds are still low that you would be drugged and robbed But you would still need to be aware of surroundings and take precautions. The type of precautions you should take has been repeated many times on this website and should be followed if you want a safe trip. One big thing you can do is stay at a hotel that requires authentication from the girls and restricts other visitors. Another common theme is guys drinking with the girls. Well the easy way to wear that is don't drink with the girls. Drink with your buddies. Final thought is a lot of the druggings come from guys who are meeting girls on a regular date and not on a pay for play situation. If the girl is way out of your league and seems eager to meet with you on a regular date, you just need to have your guard up. I am always surprised by the number of older average looking guys who think young attractive women are actually interested in dating them as in a boyfriend relationship or a hookup without payment. It may happen but as they always say, if it is too good to be true, it's usually not true.

I didn't have any issues filling it out on my computer using Google Chrome. Some guys have complained about it but I think if you just go slowly and double check your entries, it should work. I've been flying Spirit to Medellin and I can tell you that Spirit always ask to see your checkmig confirmation and if you don't have it, they make you fill it out before they will check you in. There were a number of people scrambling to fill out that form as they waited in line. As for people who say that immigration never asked for the paper form, it's on the computer when they enter the passport number. That is why they are not asking you very many questions once they scan your passport. I wouldn't try to fly to Medellin without filling out that form.
