Perhaps the six pack monger may shy away due to the economics and perhaps the feint of heart may think twice due tdrugging, powder, theft etc. But the majority of fellas I have met in my Medellin travels have been level headed seasoned veterans of the game always willing to take on a newbie and show them the ropes.
The economics of the dollar in Brazil is even worse than Colombia yet thousands of mongers still flock there yearly. And this is despite the prices in Brazil being 2 to 3 times higher than Colombia across the board (room & board, food, venues, sex). On top of the much higher occurrence of theft, drugging etc.
I guess if I lived full time in Medellin I'd want it to be my private paradise as you seem to wish it to be. That is you and a million male Paisas that live in Medellin as well.
Cheers,
Cubanut

Maybe the end of Medellin as a safe and great spot to Monger for those who are on a budget, food, hotels, sexo prices, they are all on the rise and with the low dollar value its even worse. The theft is up here, drugging tourist, powder in the face to render you helpless, I have heard more horror stories this past month than I have heard in my 4 years here. Just be careful, they are getting bolder as the economy shrinks, if you're looking for the next best place try Managua or Lima, David33 is a great source for girls and Lima is off the chain for food and cost, going next month from Medellin if thats not proof of how bad it is here, well suit youreself.

Dear all, after one year, I've been back to Medellin for 3 days.
Let me take the freedom to self-cite myself, to save some words and writing effort and to report only what's different:
Center of Medellin street scene
http://www.InternationalSexGuide.nl/forum/showthread.php?p=806767
Night street scenes in El Centro
http://www.InternationalSexGuide.nl/forum/showthread.php?p=807816
Most of what I wrote one year ago is still there. Not much changed.
Let me report only the news.
CENTRO - PLAZA BOTERO
Cheap hotels in El Centro (53, Greiff) apparently rose their prices. I have been asked up to 12k for the room por un ratito! In only one, the price was 6k (last year, 4k-5k).
Girls still ask 10-25k, depending how who they are and how they look.
Bars are less populated than one year ago. I did not see many nice girls there. Nothing that could be defined as "fresh", if you understand me... Only old-seasoned pros.
Glue-sniffers are still there, hanging around at any time day and night. Be careful. I have seen one night a group of 10 kids assaulting a man with small backpack and his gf, like 10 wolves on a bison. No arms or knifes, only 20 hands exploring his body all together to find money to steal. Nobody helped him, so I guess he lost his wallet.
This really concerned me, so I was even more prudent in walking around at night in that streets.
LA MAYORISTA
There is a new law of the municipality of Itagui. Except Saturday (maybe Friday too?), all bars close at midnight!! On Sat, at 2am. They call it "Ley Seca". Dont forget it, if you head there by taxi around 12am, as I did with major disappointment.
Girls are not so sexy and young as I remembered one year ago. All are old-seasoned pros. (I sampled one Saturday night, i.e. when it should be best). Some of them are still there since last year. I remember the Asian, for example. She is very beautiful, but dont expect anthing close to GFE from her.
SAN DIEGO
The second major spot of Medellin for SWs, besides Greiff and 53. Here, it is not possible to walk around at night. Streets are desolated and lonely. Also, action is spread over a wide area. The only way is by car. I hired a taxy for one hour (20k), we actually spent more, hunting for girls and even commenting.
On the average, expect less interesting girls than in the bars and streets of El Centro.

Posts: 204Got back from MDE early this morning
And I need to report I now am a statistic. I was robbed! Not on the street or by knife or gun but in the Hotel/Hostel I have come to trust.
I have been staying with Odeon, near Parque Bolivar since April 2008 and have trusted them leaving things in the room without trying to stash them.
On Friday, I return to my room about 3pm and it was not in order but everything was in place. I pick up the folded shirt which was covering my charging cel phone and put the shirt I removed over the cel. I left the room about 3:45 pm to spend the rest of the day with my family only to return at 11:45 pm to find my room in order but my cel phone missing.
I immediately reported this to the front desk who called the manager and it was agreed there is nothing that can be done at that time. The next day the room cleaner was said to be about two month pregnant was conveniently incapacitated the next day and would not answer the phones. First, she could not leave the home then she was at the clinic then she could not come to the phone. Yesterday morning the hotel was in touch with this person and to no surprise, she did not touch the phone. I had 800.000 COP, a JVC HD camcorder in luggage, yet only the phone and the charge was taken; hum, could have been robbers that did not check for other valuables, and just settle for a password protected Blackberry.
If you were thinking, no it was not a conquest, as I have never brought a girl home to the room. For the rates of that place, should I need "a room" I would just get a second. This is just to inform you and not to condemn Medellin in any way. I still enjoy the city and find it no less safe that the New York I passed through as a young'in.
Should anyone be at the hotel anytime soon ask them about the gringo who was missing the phone, I would love hear what they have to comment after all I did walk out without paying the 75.000 COP that was due. Fair trade for having to explain to my bosses why my work cel is not missing. NOT!

Posts: 20I don't do much mongering in Medellin anymore, having bought an apartment here and having a car. I know the non-mongering spots in the city quite well and if there's anybody out there that needs friendly advice, pm me. I speak spanish. I know where there are casas.

The rate is not 5%, 0,5% is more true.
