Spirit airline has early morning flight from Ohare at 5 am for medellin and Bogota via FLL. I try to be at their counter by 3:30 am, so even though lines are still long at such ungodly hours, waiting time and delays becomes managable.

What am I missing bud? Do you or other poster not know about checking in online the night before and head straight to the gate? Or is this a spirit thing? I refuse to fly them anymore, please explain, I haven't waited in a check in line in over 8-10 years! Granted I'm a carry on person for no matter how long trip is, even if checking bags is their not a bag drop?

The counter service of Spirit Airlines in Chicago O'Hare was a complete shit show. The all-female staff messed up the lines: line A, international but to Cabo only; line be, everything else. Well, a bunch of people were going to Latin American countries (final destination). But they classified the line as direct flight. You don't find that out until you wait in line, get to the agent, and she tells you to go to the back of a mile-long line. They absolutely refused to let you skip the line to get in the correct line. This is messed up because of how poorly they communicate (dozens of people asked if they'd make the flight based on the line length and which line to wait in), plus, instead of fixing the problem, reducing the number of people in line, the insane request to go to the back of the line after you legitimately waited the first time, was outright dumb. Instead of stepping one queue over, the supervisor insisted people go to the back of the line that amassed to several hundred people by that time. They didn't fix the problem, they just postponed the solution. I heard the floating agent that helps people with auto-check in say they dealt with the chaos everyday. Totally stupid if you know it causes a problem and do not fix it. Unprofessional customer service. Although it worked out in the end, I had to sweet talk the floating agent to let me skip the line. It does pay to talk nice, I thought, but realized that if she does that everyday, then she's just playing the role of the hero when it wasn't required. They created the problem and they offered the solution. Not professional.

The transfer through Fort Lauderdale was much easier. Maybe because I didn't have to check in? Plus, the plane was much cleaner, less packed, and overall much better.

It holds true, I hate flying domestic.

Too answer your question as to when I might go to Thailand. Well it depends on how it goes over the next couple of months. If it truly opens up, meaning the mongering venues like Nana Plaza are fully operational and things re-open in Pattaya, ideally I would fly out on New Years.

But honestly, I'm not getting my hopes up. They tried opening up Phuket and it was a total bust, so who knows how it will go as the Pandemic has been unpredictable in both good and bad ways.

Colombia is a perfect example of this, initially during the Pandemic, Colombia would have COVID surges that would follow the USA two to three months afterwards.

So I thought the Delta variant would of already showed up in force in Colombia, but hasn't that I am aware of and things have been fairly stable.

So my point is that things are so unpredictable.

SEA has been shut down for a long time, and hopefully will really re-open.

I would love to return and enjoy the LOS, and hopefully all the SEA guys will return as well and get the hell out of Medellin. LOL Nothing personal against them though.

There is no doubt FLL is bad, and I have global entry (best $100 I ever spent and free if you get some American Express cards) but if you use the free mobile passport app and fill out your info, you can also bypass the horrendous lines. It is not as good as Global Entry but it sure as hell beats standing in the regular line.

Colombia and now Thailand are saying they want to Crack down on prostitution. What if they want to make a example of someone. They swipe your passport and see that you've been to every know hooker destination in the world. Look at the overreacting on the terrorism laws after 911. They trampled on everyone's rights. They could do the same with banging legal age hookers in the 3rd world.

My return flight from Bogota had FLL as port of entry in USA, and it was the worst 150 minutes I spent in any airport. I had to wait in several lines. There was a waiting line to enter baggage claim area, and once I entered the baggage claim area, it took another 30 minutes for baggage to arrive in baggage claim. After that ordeal was over, there was long winded waiting line to enter immigration area, and then the actual lines for getting your entry into USA. Since I had connecting flight, I had another line to check in my bag, and then another line for security check to go to gate of connecting flight. All in all, it took 150 minutes to reach the gate of my connecting flight.

Get Global Entry, and when arriving in FLL just walk around the lines and ask where the Global Entry kiosks are which all use facial recognition. I returned with a friend last month who didn't have Global Entry who went thru the same ordeal you did, and the airlines don't like it either when flyers miss their connections. And it's been going on at that airport for months now, you would think they would of cleaned up their act by now.

I am with Mr. E on this. I have been going to Colombia for 16 years (who knows how many trips), some of which I was married to a Colombian and the rest as a monger. NEVER had anyone ask to view fotos on my phone, never gotten shaked down. I was body scanned once, but it was years ago when I was on vacation with my ex-wife and daughter, but that was in Cartagena. Not saying that shake-downs, etc. Can't or don't happen, but it's certainly not the norm based on what I've experienced and based on what I know of friend who visit Colombia regularly.

Without getting into too many specifics, this is beginning to happen more frequently now. A single male traveler with a history of travel to Thailand, Colombia, Cambodia and Costa Rica. Boom - expect to be grilled and have all of your stuff turned upside down. Customs some times take your electronics stuff away for hours, yes plural hours, and inspect it, far away from your eyes.
