Topic came up twice with a few chicas that I've known for a while. For my first trip to Colombia in August I was planning on staying in Medellin for three days tasting the local flavors and picking a girl to take with me to Guatape for a couple days to have some booty around, is this a good idea even if I don't already know any girls in Medellin? What would a proper rate be for something like that as well? Wouldn't want to overpay and raise the market price. Taking a girl you don't know well can backfire on you very quickly. You will want a typical prepago to leave, not hang around. I' have been three times, always with two girls except one time with three Vennies and that was a weeking I will never forget, so good. I knew them all from ether prepago multiple time or they were regular girls and not pay for play. Then you don't have to pay them separate, but obvious you cover all costs including souvenirs. Again, unless you really feel lucky don't take a prepago you just met on a long weekend trip with you. One note about taking multiple girls, it sounds obvious but it really jacks up the cost. I suppose the one exception to NOT taking a girl who you just met might be a high end escort from a service, but I have never tried that. And you will notice the price jump of everything in Guatape compared to Medellin. Do it They also have boat rides on the lake and helicopter rides. That taxi ride would have been too expensive in the USA to consider.

One of my girls is like-we can go to these places but its the same as Medellin-everything is closed and nothing to do.

I cant find any real information about if Barranquilla has weekend quarantines / lockdowns / curfews all day and night like Medellin or if these places outside of Medellin are worth going to to be able to do some things during the day. I don't care too much at night-I will just have a different chick with me each night in my room in the city (Medellin / Barranquilla) and I have a few in my stable that are ready to come with me for weekend excursions but a couple are claiming there is no point in going away for the weekend since everything is closed and you are confined inside in other places. I have messaged hotels, mongers, friends there--and it seems like nobody has actual facts or responds. Do any of you?

I know in Medellin: alternate days to vidit stores, and you can walk around outside during the weeks. But on weekends-its everyone has to stay indoors all day. The question is: is that the same situation in the small places like San Geronimo, Santa Fe De Antioquia Guatape or?

I don't think for the time being your going to be able to escape being locked in or confined by a curfew in Antoquioa during the weekends and I'm guessing thru at least the end of the month but hope I am wrong. So if you really want to get away for a weekend, say leaving on a Friday and coming back on a Monday assuming it's only a weekend lockdown you might want to consider staying at a large Hostel with amenities such as large pools and grounds.

In San Geronimo I have stayed at both Hotel Quimbaya and Hotel Lago Tours which offer full board meaning three meals a day and are large in size with pools and rooms with AC WIFI Cable, etc. If you go to Trip Advisor you can research them, and contact them to see if they are open. You have to decide if you want to be sequestered in a place like this with the same Chica for three days. I hope this helps.

I can see why this is confusing. When you get off the plane in Bogota and get your luggage, there are ATM machines right there for you to use. I think there is a place to exchange money downstairs in the Medellin airport like Bogota.

What can fuck people over in Medellin is when you come in without Colombian cash, go outside, and are locked out of the airport.

If you come into Medellin, you go through customs and pick up your bag downstairs. If you need to go to the ATM, you need to go back upstairs to use the ATM and then downstairs to catch a cab or the bus. I think they are near the Latam counter, and there are, I believe, three ATM machines there.

Moral of the story is do not leave Medellin airport without Colombian cash.

Is this advice intended for first timers? Those of us who live here or have visited many times would always keep some Colombian cash for our return visit. 100,000 pesos should be satisfactory. You can pay your cab to your hotel (or Airbnb) comfortably and hit local ATMs (cajeros) once you are settled in. BTW you can take a çolectivo' (taxi shared with a few people each paying a portion) for less money, or a bus. But taking a taxi by yourself should cost no more than 80 mil no matter where in Medellin you are staying and the taxi is supposed to pay the airport exit charge and the tunnel fee as well. It's all part of the 80 mil fee.

I think some consider the estrato system a socialism feature. I read somewhere that the tax hike on utilities are for above estrato 4, the the lower estrato will get money. The problem is some classes, like military, police or something in that nature, that that can afford to pay tax are exempt from the tax increase. I think many think the government are corrupt so the tax will just go to certain people. I saw a video a while back and the host pointed to a public construction project. One comment he made was the government officials didn't pocket all the money, they gave some back. On top of that, many Colombians don't pay tax or don't need to pay tax.

The Estrato system with Estrata 1 thru 6 where as an example when you go to Claro for Internet service has two pricing schedules for those in Estrata 5 and above who pay a higher rate then those in Estrata 4 and below, and EPM the utility company has lower rates as well for those who live in the lower tier Estratas. Same thing applies to Real Estate as all properties are based on the Estrato system as well with as an example most propertites being in Level 5 and 6, however in some barrios like Manila which is in Poblado there are Estrata 4 properties and the Pre-dial Impusetos (Property Taxes) you pay are based on this as well.

I suppose this is a socialism feature, but more so, it's actually a Classism feature.

As much as a lot of Colombians won't admit it, a lot of them look down on people from the lower Estrata areas. I've witnessed it first hand by remarks I have heard from Colombians about other Colombians. No similar to racism.

For mongering locations outside of Medellin close-by forget it. The ideal situation however would be to take a Chica with you and stay in either San Geronimo, Santa Fe de Anotquioa, or Guatape. All easily accessible by bus within a few hours from Medellin and I have stayed in all places and have had a great time. If you can afford it, near Guatape stay at Hotel Los Recuerdos, it's within 500 meters of the Penol and get a view room. In San Geronimo there are two very nice Hotels with pools and saunas which are fun, and several in and around Santa Fe. As far as booking the rooms use Booking.com to find the establishment you might be interested in, and then book directly thru the Hotels website, albeit some won't be in English.

If I read the notice correctly, the lockdowns apply to the entire department of Antioquia, although I think in some areas the curfew starts at 8 pm instead of 6 pm.

There is a Bancolombia ATM on the first floor. After you exit the baggage claim area, continue down the hallway and you will see the ATM. There used to be a BBVA ATM further down the hallway, but I didn't go looking for it last month.

They change the locations of the ATM's. There are two locations on the second floor, with two or three ATM's at each place.
