Coming to Medellin for my first trip and do not speak Spanish. Friend was coming with that speaks it and been there before, but he had heart attack and can't come.
Could use a coach / mentor while there to help me learn mainly where to go and not go. Be glad to compensate for their time, or at least buy some meals and drinks.
Maybe someone very experience from US that could advise me some about spending 3/4 months year there during our winter months.
I have read a lot of information on here, but nothing like having an experienced and knowledgeable new friend to advise me.
Details;
73 year young, great health, good personality, know my time chasing "monky" is passing fast so have sense of urgency to get as much of it as I possibly can!
To hell with the kids inheritance, they would waste it anyway. LOL.
From Tennessee, spend 3/4 months Florida as snowbird, but getting so expensive there thinking of changing to Colombia.
Fly into Medellin next week on Spirit December 15 for 12 days. Yes we were planning a heck of a time, I can't get refund on tickets so I'm going make best of it as I can.
See this trip now mainly as; learning safe areas, common safety precautions, the culture, the people, the currency, or let me say things you had to learn the hard way.
Feel free to private message with any questions or ideas you may have.
Monky eye.

Posts: 4023I thought there might be an opening on the side of the museum again because I noticed the flow of pedestrian traffic was flowing in a way I had not seen since the barriers went up. I asked one of the merchants but he told me no. I'm glad he was wrong. Also new in the plaza is the opening of branches of three long time Provenza businesses, La Tasca Espanola, Bam Bam (hamburgers) and El Social (coming soon) in and near the former Tostao location. The owner of La Tasca is the head of the Provenza business owner association and the self appointed mayor of Provenza. I admire her tireless promotion of Medellin tourism. She famously put her foot down and demanded the authorities take action against the foreigner who paraded a scantily clad woman through Provenza on a leash with a dog collar attached to her neck. The foreigner was later deported.

Posts: 134Turkish citizen (39 yo) stabbed to death inside an apartment he rented in Laureles.
The criminals apparently intended to steal his belongings when he was with a woman inside the place where he was staying.

Posts: 1225Plaza Botero December 8, 2023
I decided to hit up Centro as I haven't been down here in a while and I have this 21 year old vennie that I met back in August that's been dying to repeat with me. I got her to agree to BBFS cip for 60 mil and I pay the room. She didn't disappoint by the way.
I got down here a little early and while I was waiting for her to arrive I did a tour around plaza botero inside of the barriers. I noticed that behind the museum there is a gap in the barriers (see attached photo) where people can exit and enter onto cra 53 (the bar street) without any police there manning the gap. Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of even having the barriers in the first place?
Anyways centro is still as great as always I had a great session and my favorite limonada lady still hooks me up with a big ass vaso of limonada for 2 mil pesos.
I was disappointed to see that one my favorite restaurants "Chorizos and Asados" is no longer there. It got replaced by some bullshit called Rey de Sopas.
The third picture is from inside hotel botero real (el hotel rojo) from the point of view of the stairs looking out of the entrance.
I expected these barriers to be good soon maybe within the next month as soon as Fico takes over.

Posts: 4023I've never stayed at the San Peter but I've been on la 70 many times at different times of day. I don't know how anyone could live there. I'm told there are soundproof windows but I have my doubts I could tolerate it. There are other options. My recommendation would be to spend a bit of time with one of the map applications and be sure the places you consider are at least two streets away from la 70. The noise level is really hard to imagine until you experience it and it goes on all night every night.

Funny how some people develop what they like from pictures and how many followers an account has versus what they see outside in real life.
You could surmise that if most of the girls from the States went to South America, then the same thing would happen. It is only a case of people taking an affinity to what is exotic to them. If you had grown up with those same girls then you would care less about their pictures of how many followers they had. They would just be regular ass Betty and Sue to you. Trust me. None of these chicks' former classmates and neighbors have lost their minds over this internet account.

I went to Medellin once and stayed in Poblado. Me and buddy took an uber to The Mansion. It was a ways away from where we were staying. But the Mansion we went to is not the same as the one I see people mention here as the Hotel M. The Mansion I went to was up a long windy driveway, like your going into the woods. Sat a top a hill. It was huge inside and it had a bar inside where you wait to have the girls showcased to you.
I looked at google maps at the Hotel M and that can't be it.
