Newbie here, preparing for my first trip.

Does anyone have a packing list for what to pack and wear to fit in with locals during the day (jeans, Nikes, and t-shirts or polo shirts?) and for going out at night for dinner and dancing? Dressing to not attract the thieves or repel the ladies. .

Jeans, T-shirts, polo shirts, maybe one nice button down shirt for dancing, comfortable walking shoes, a light rain jacket and that's about it. No jewelry. Leave your high dollar sunglasses at home.

Leave your wallet locked up. I carry cash, and an ATM card, if I'm going to an ATM, plus my ID. For ID I carry my US Passport Card. It's recommended you carry a photocopy of your passport, including the entry stamp. Some guys take a photo and keep it on their phone.

I'm guessing you had a sheltered upbringing. Women, believe it or not, like sex too. I'd say, if you're doing it right, they enjoy sex more than we do. Of course, not many do it right, which is why female sex toys are such popular items. It's not hard to find a woman who just wants some good sex, although once you pass a certain age, the younger ones take a lot more work. I meant to do this a couple of weeks ago when this topic was being actively discussed, but better late than never. When I was in Medellin in Jan 2021, I took out cash several times from Servibanco ATM's. On two occasions, I kept details on the conversion rate I was declining so that I could calculate how much money I was saving by declining. On Jan 23, I saved $13 on a 900,000 peso ($259) ATM withdrawal by declining the 3,310 conversion rate. The better, wholesale rate of 3,477 I received (after reviewing my statement back in the US) represented a 5% improvement (or $13) over the rate I declined. On Jan 26, I saved $10 on a 1,000,000 peso ($284) ATM withdrawal by declining the 3,403 conversion rate. The better, wholesale rate of 3,525 I received represented a 3.6% improvement (or $10) over the rate I declined. I hope this quantification helps people realize that they need to decline the offered US $-COP conversion.

I think what is so funny about that is that I am teaching the women around me without even knowing I am doing it. One of my gals was talking about retiring by building apartments and renting them. I talked to her about the rule of 72, currency risk, and interest rates just by telling her what yield I would need to get in such venture rather than just putting money in a REIT that paid dollars versus apartments paying pesos. I was not even telling her what she should do but telling her what I would need to see before putting money in. I was showing her a superior thought process without even realizing I was doing so. It changed her future plans.

Plain t shirt (navy, black) jeans and nikes are fine. Don't wear a watch. Just be confident and walk like you know what you're doing.

I knew there were was at least one BM here way above my pay grade and technically savvy when it comes to phones, and the information you posted should be very helpful to the younger guys as I am totally old school and walk the streets of Medellin with my $ 30 USD dum dum burner phone, yet it is a NOKIA with an extremely long battery life and hasn't fallen apart. I was gone from mid March of last year until November and it immediately fired up and while I was gone every two months I would re-charge it with 5,000 Pesos from the USA so I didn't lose CLARO my number.

I think the real issue about phones for guys that monger is what happens if they have a USA cell with them, and they lose the phone, will they be able to immediately replace the phone with their same number, hence having two phones makes sense, but for guys who can remedy this situation like you can immediately because your technically savvy then no need for it.

Unfortunately with the advent of smart phones and how we literally conduct are lives with our phones, losing one with everything on it would be like losing your legs, hence mine stays locked up, and this trip I have a second I phone with a separate USA number in case I lose my primary phone while travelling intecountry like to other Cities, if I were to lose it, I have a backup phone with all my Apps which I can utilize.

So with my dum dum burner phone I have three phones, one for the streets, one for exclusive use in my place and when I travel intercountry, and an emergency American I phone back up. This may sound extreme to some paying for two Verizon phone lines, but actually because I have a business account I ended up with two I phone 12 P Pro's for the price of one, and the second phone line for no charge which I don't really need as I could just slip in a Verizon SIM card which I brought as well.

It is easy to experiment. Borrow an ATT SIM card to try on your Verizon phone to find out.

There are no networks left that are only 3G or earlier. There are no phones left that are only CDMA or only GSM. All phones made in the last few years have a multi-band modem supporting all networks. All you need to worry about anymore is that your phone is not "locked" because you bought it on a monthly contract plan from your service provider. Personally I buy a new one each year or two at Ktronix in Pablado for about $100 worth of pesos. Like Surfer my real phone is always in the room safe.

You might try shopping at Centro Comercial Monterrey, right across from the Poblado metro station. There are probably 30 stores selling phones in there. It's about the best place around to get good prices on electronics.

Truer words than this expression have never been stated, which is "the only honest woman is a prostitute" and this is especially true here in Medellin.

I had a discussion with my gringo buddy this morning about this topic and he is finally coming around to the truths about life and culture and women here in Medellin.

So how to enjoy life here in Medellin? It is simple just follow these few basic fundamentals:

1. Never ever take any woman serious, period and end of discussion.

2. They are what they are, what their ingrained culture has placed into their DNA. You can not change them.

3. A barrio xxxxx, and my gawd we all love them, can never ever go outside her social economic status, so don't try, it will never work.

4. They all fuck around, they call them their gay amigos or primos or just a old school friend but they have and will return to their old fuck buddies, even the ladrones from the barrio because water seeks it's own level..

All of the above is something everyone should keep in mind. I won't say it applies 100% to every chica, but it helps to keep your perspective. Once you lose that perspective, it can get expensive real quick.
