There is a youtube channel that Mojo pointed me to called Life with David or something like that. He has some videos about apartment hunting. You can check it out if you find it.

Guys I need some advice. 3 weeks was really nothing for me in Medellin. I enjoyed every minute of it and didn't even get to do one night in Parque Lleras. I'm going to do 2-3 months at least, in April to really get time to explore everything Medellin and beyond. Ill also be taking some Spanish lessons.
Can someone advise on longer term accommodation because I don't think airbnb will be financially practical for a few months and I certainly wouldn't stay in a hotel room.
How easy is it for a gringo to find a reasonably priced apartment in somewhere like Laureles for $800 - $1000 or would I need a bigger budget. Is there a minimum rental term like 3 months or 6 months? Is it best to rent an airbnb for the first week and then look when I'm on the ground or are there sites online I can check before travelling. I do have one contact in Laureles but would like some options.
Any advice appreciated or perhaps you know someone that's renting?

La 33 nor La 70 are as gritty as El Centro but then again no place in Medellin is guaranteed to be safe, those assholes that ride around in pairs on motorcycles and one jumps off the back with a gun or knife and robs you have been reported in every neighborhood. This is not terribly often but it gets reported in every neighborhood. One suggestion I have read on here that makes the best sense to me is to carry a dummy phone (an old phone that does not have to work) and a dummy wallet with like 100 k and some bullshit business cards in it. These guys seem to hit fast and then try to flee the scene quickly so they are not going to check the function of the phone etc.

Like knowledge says, there's all kinds of gringos. I've never had a problem, I look ethnic, but born in the states. At night after 8 pm I stay away as all the junkies get rabid for their fix, but during the day it's not too bad if you're used to ethnic parts of big cities like LA or NYC.
Best bet is to walk around and see for yourself if you feel comfortable. If not, just stick to the casas.

Posts: 4040Let me guess, the Lleras / Gustos prices have not gone down?
I can confirm meanwhile, the Centro scene is unchanged in recent years. Disclaimer: these are the views of a Centro rat.

Posts: 28Quality of Lleras park is down ATM
I've been lingering here since 2019, I come twice a year. I've noticed that the quality of girls at parque Lleras is down. Even the girls at Gustos and Lleras park is low, most are unattractive, a few are cute, but at max I see 3-4 girls a night where I'm like wow. At Gustos last night I saw maybe one girl and a backup that I might consider taking home, but they were both busy with other clients. At Lleras park bar, there was 1 but again busy. Obviously it's preference, but has anyone noticed something similar. The park it self had very low quality girls.

Let's first be clear, both robberies were done by men disguised as police and is under active investigation. Poblado is a big tourist and business section not just in Medellin but all of Colombia. There are many foreigners with their families living there. One only has to walk on a Sunday to see expat families either walking, biking or roller skating when they close traffic on Sunday mornings. It has some very good high end restaurants and bars and no I am not referring to the prostitution park known as Parque Lleras. There is no way Poblado can be compared to ElCentro. Or to even insinuate el Centro is just as safe or safer. El Centro is not for everyone. It takes a certain type of monger to enjoy that style
