Greetings to MDE board,

Reporting my March MDE trip which took place just as intl travel ceased, I'm recent active member from Tijuana HK poster of #10382 (Jan 2020) awarded monger of the year award by some, Tijuana Zone norte was 1st hobbyist trip in Oct 2019,19 girls in 6 day / 5 night report, here's my MDE report that I hope is award worthy:

As I looked up CR, DR & Panama research & RTFF, MDE won out. The situation in China / Europe was evolving & everything was normal in March in US when I left LAX to MDE (layover PTY, Panama in COPA airlines) on 3/11,arrived MDE 3/12 11 am, exchanged few USD to COP, met my airport taxi pickup sent by hotel (wellknown gringofriendly spot in Poblado). Travel was light around this time, airports fairly busy, much more the return flight. I immediately felt Paisa hositality along w / smooth weather as I took 30+min ride to hotel. Settled in, rested bit as & unpacked, quickly headed to Oviedo Mall ctr (big green apple w / leaves you can't miss it in Poblado), got USD exchanged to COP (didn't deal w / ATMS, didn't in Tijuana & was sticking to same plan). Went to Oviedo ctr few times for exchanges & also Sr. Wok Chinese food (4-5 usd combo plate) & smallshops for water bottles (. 40-50 cents avg) etc. Pharmacy had antibiotic AZT 2 usd.

1-2. Came back to hotel 3-4 pm after 1st experience walking in Colombia (cross street with others to make it easier) in Poblado was out of breath from uphill trek common there, but I managed (fit early 30's latin), place I stayed had chicas in lobby by reception & decided to arrange something before I entered my room so I took 2 beautiful chicas along my rm to kickoff my trip, 4 chicas in total were sitting in lobby & said Hi to 2 hottest,1 was A. I don't know about other people's situations, but for me, the experience I described is nearly impossible to find in Northern California. I love their aircrafts, the smile of their employees, the unique uniform of the hostess, the service on board, the cleanness, even their Colombia Tourism spots projected on TV screens onboard.

I am Platinum Flying Blue and I was really disappointed when they moved to Star Alliance, but probably they did it right.

I to prefer Avianca over COPA because of their planes and always fly Business Class, however their on-board food is terrible compared to COPA's, yet COPA's lounges suck compared to Avianca's, and yes, you can't beat the beauty of the flight attendants. As far as being on time, well AVIANCA is notorious for being delayed where as COPA I think had the best on-time record in the Industry. I always fly out of LOS Angeles to Medellin, so sometimes it's a pain in the ass in Bogota with the lines, etc. Whereas flying on COPA it's a breeze in Panama City, yet they don't have sleeper beds on any of their planes.

And both airlines are Star Alliance members, and that's perfect for me. I log all my miles onto my United account which never expire like AVIANC'A's and COPA's and because they are both Star Alliance members, I get use of the Star Alliance lounge at LAX which is very nice. Since all of the AVIANCA and COPA flights leave in the evening I hit the lounge before the flight, have some great beverages and food thinking about how by the middle of the next day I will be in paradise!
